  • Nice and versatile kit from WGA this time. Up their in my mind with the Dacian set from Victrix in how easy they are to work as all sorts of models, and already include a fairly good selection of options.

These guys are extremely versatile to use as any Romano-Germanic levy militias in Late Antiquity and Early Medieval Period. I also think that they are a cheaper alternative for Victrix Dark Age Archers and the unarmored soldiers in the Late Saxons/Anglo Danes pack due to Wargames Atlantic's free shipping policy for a certain amount of purchase.

That painted slinger looked a little like Flanders from the Simpsons.... 👍

I really like them, I think they would be nice for d&d, frost grave, pathfinder or any other small scale games. Love your videos.😇🙏🇺🇸

They'd absolutely make a great core troop unit for a Frostgrave warband. Especially if you've got plenty of leftover parts from other kits to really customize them!

Superior to Gripping Beast’s, tho Victrix have just released late Romans, so hopefully will bring out their own late antiquity/ early medieval hairy types, too. Good that this kit has bondi, hearthguard equivalents and ranged in one box.

Yeah, all too often the ranged and melee guys get parted out into different kits. That's one of the reasons I'm a big fan of Victrix's Dacians. Everything you need in one box!
Plus this has the options for slings and bows. While there may not be a lot of pouches for ammo, that's easily remedied by most our our bits boxes (or handwaves away as they're just grabbing whatever stones happen to be nearby).

I don't see why it would be a problem for Vikings to have Roman military daggers. the Eastern Roman Empire had an entire unit of Vikings called The Veriginian Guard. so there was trade between Vikings and Romans.

In my mind I've always pictured Varangian Guards as more Slavic in their armor design.
Plus in my mind when I think Vikings, I think of when they're conquering England, which is a pretty wide gulf of time between then and the fall of Rome.
Maybe I'll trim up some of the more Roman trappings on their scabbards at least.

@@ObscuritiesinMiniature the Vikings came in two flavors won the Sea Raiders which operated out of Norway and Denmark and the basic colonizers. They traveled very far into what we call Russia Today. Several of the cities and towns in Russia were founded by Vikings. I have a friend who is very into Viking history and he always says what do you expect out of Vikings who were prone to see sickness of course they're going to go Overland. It was from these Vikings that the byzantines got their recruits and I am sure that several Slavs were also recruited.
When I was younger I traveled quite a bit and I purchased in Istanbul which of course used to be Constantinople a beautiful Gladius hispanica. There are probably still shops there that celebrate the Roman heritage even though I think politically they would be looked down upon now.

My advise, as someone who can't paint eyes, just dont.
Flesh tone the face, then just give it a wash. It'll be fine.
    Also, greenstuff capes

Only 4 shields per 5 warriors? You'll be flooded with skirmishers if you're building a WFB style army.

Honestly if they went the route of having 'base' sprues that's the main bodies that by default doesn't have as many arms or varieties and costs slightly less, then had additional sprues that can be added to purchases that have the types. Like buy a sprue of goth infantry for like 10 or 20% less, then add a weapon sprue that's all spears, or all swords, or all ranged. It'd be less bits left over as you'd get exactly what you wanted, but having a BUNCH of general sprues full of left over bows if a person doesn't really use much ranged seems like a waste for us and for wargames.
