  • This video covers a 3 day family trip in Lisbon, Portugal. One of the most sought out city breaks in Europe, Lisbon is a great choice to spend a few days on a family vacation. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe where great sea explorations began 500-600 years back. Depending on your interest, you can visit beautiful architecture, enjoy excellent food and drinks, fun with kids, enjoy the winding up & down roads in this city built on many hills or simply sun bath in its suburban beaches. Key locations covered in this video:-
    1. Arco da Rua Augusta (Riverfront Arch and square with yellow painted buildings. Nearest metro station - Terreiro do Paço)
    2. Santa junta lift (120 year old cast iron bridge for spectacular views of the old town. You can use the same 24 hour unlimited metro card for accessing the lifts. Cost at the time of making this video- €6.40. Walking distance from Arco da Rua Augusta)
    3. Timeout Market (Great options for food, drink and desserts. Nearest metro station - Cais do Sodré)
    4. Mosteiro dos Jeronimos (One of the best examples of Gothic Architecture in Portugal and also house the tomb of Vasco Da Gama. Nearest tram station - Belem)
    5. Pastéis de Belém (The place to eat the best of Portuguese custard tarts. Only a few meters away from Jeronimos monastery)
    6. Padrão dos Descobrimentos (The massive statue of explorers which is opposite to the garden in front of Jeronimos monastery)
    7. Cascais (This lovely beach resort town is a good choice for a day trip from Lisbon and only 45 mins away by suburban train. Reach metro station - Cais do Sodré and then take the train to Cascais. Remember to take return tickets for € 4.40)
    8. Train 28 (Its a very busy tram route thanks to tourists wanting to see the the narrow and winding tram view. To secure a seat, board from its starting point at Martim Moniz (metro station) and you can either get down at Baixa/ Chiado or Basilica da Estrela from where to continue your onward journey)
There are many more sights to see in Lisbon like Belem tower, Castelo de São Jorge, Museu Nacional do Azulejo (Tiles museum) etc. With kids, I also recommend the Oceanarium which is one of the best in the world with its many unique sea-life species (Nearest metro station - Oriente). Watch my other video specifically covering the Oceanarium (coming soon..)
