For heavy furniture: I typically arrange for 2 heavy furniture max to be delivered together each time to allow enough space to layout the parts and work on assembling the one I'm working on, without having to reposition different heavy parcels to clear space. That way, I also have the flexibility to leave the parts where they are , half done and messy and still have space to walk properly.
I've learnt to screw the pieces up just enough to hold the parts properly, so that I have less to unscrew and rescrew , too much of fully unscrew and fully rescrew could loosen the drill hole. Tighten all screws once product is fixed up.
To fix heavy parts that require someone else to hold it, I arranged the heavy part sideways and lean it against the wall or knee for support. Eg cabinets can be first fixed up sideways (in it's "sleeping" position instead of upright).
Gloves help. Those rough ones with friction dots. It lightens the strain on the hands.
And in the first place, buy the right furniture that we think is in our capability to assemble :)
Also a single lady on my own here...

Hello KK, you are right about Google and CZcams - have lots of very cool installation tricks and shortcuts. However some technical sense is required.
As for the installation processes, I always tell the workers 1 worker can do 1 work in a day, 2 workers can do 3-4 work in a day.
Some task without a minimum NO. Of hands not able to complete. Lastly never operate any power tools without proper tools handling training.

cake. for your 2 examples, 1. spread the bubble wrap that comes with the packaging on the floor and lay the table top flat on the bubble wrap to fix. It protects the coating on the table top if there is any. 2. Since you have nothing on the floor, extend the full length of the metal ruler on the floor and step on it. when it reaches your desire length, step on it and bend perpendicularly upwards to affirm. your method is "no choice method" if the floor is blocked, it would have marginal error since it won't be exact horizontal.

Measure the floor tile dimensions, then simply count them and multiply.. We used to pay our friends in beer to help in large tasks, like moving house or massive paint jobs..
Also, if the item is not too heavy, you could temporarily peg them together with bits of twig (or repurposed disposable chopsticks) to check the general shape before securing with screws, bolts and nuts.. Cheers!

I live alone in a 4 room flat. I keep the windows of the other bedrooms shut to keep out unwanted dust. Sweeping and mopping the floor takes me 2 hours. Avoid putting too many stuff on the floor to make it easier to clean. Living alone and without family in a foreign country can be stressful. Make friends with your neighbors or find a partner. If you ever need help, don't hesitate to ask. Singaporeans are generally law abiding. They won't dare to do anything funny.

Sometimes even without needing the instructions. But I'm a perfectionist. So I take a longer time to fix things as I try to make it as perfect as possible.
I feel I only have one real problem with living alone. For me, if I come down with fever, it's a big problem. Because I'm allergic to all fever medication, a simple fever can really knock me down and keep me on my bed for up to almost a week. If you are going to DIY assemble most of your furniture it might be good investing in a 12 volt cordless drill,
most of the time it is driving bolts and screws to assemble the furniture.
It makes mistake more forgiving as you probably spend 10 seconds with the drill as opposed to 5 minutes tightening a long bolt.
So if it is done wrongly you can correct the mistake in another 20 seconds instead of 10 minutes.
You can get planks and drill holes and put L-brackets and that turn them into shelves.
And you can get a jigsaw/ saber saw attachment for a drill which turn it into a power saw for trimming planks effortlessly.
This is basically a mobile workshop with a drill.
