Just bought one using your link! Thanks for the review.
Idk why but the “you can switch from Celsius to Fahrenheit depending on if you’re living in the United States or the rest of the world” was hilarious
And some would say intentionally so ;) haha
Well we were all born somewhere (:
So aesthetically pleasing! Great review!
Great video, honest and informative, thanks !
Got one for Christmas, beautiful piece. Feels like an extension of my hand while pouring
Thanks for the awesome review!
Thanks for watching!
Okay - now I need this!! And it’s not as pricey as I was expecting, after seeing how great it is!!
totally worth it!
Great review, superbly done
It’s always out of stock here in the UK. It’s very expensive for what it does but it just elevates the whole coffee making ritual for “slow living” guys like me
I feel that way about all of Fellow's products, they just really know good design and how to make products that look like just as much of a joy to use as actually they are.
Very nice looking kettle. A classic
Love this review! also, where is the gold lamp from in the background? its very pretty
Its from Structube I believe!
Great review! I want this kettle, but a bit too steep of a price currently. I have to ask where you got your pour over ceramic? It's beautiful!
Thanks!
The cone is by Now Designs and its called the Contour pour over coffee filter
Good review
Excellent review! The only complaint that I have that you didn't mention is that the handle feels a little bit cheap for a gooseneck kettle at this price point
can considering getting the wooden handle.
What a weird vibe from the comments and some of the reviews for this thing. I bought a similar model without the long spout and it’s literally the best electric kettle I’ve owned. Its quiet, fast, accurate, and looks nice. Every other kettle is such an eyesore. Thanks for the honest review
Which one?
@@ingridkincaid1187 the one with a smaller spout. All black
Called the Corvo :)
@@LifestyleLab_ ty! I got it and I love it😌
Where did you get the dripped? It is very nice and I’ve not seen it before. Thanks in advance and great video 👌🏻
Thanks!
The dripper is by Now Designs and it's called the Contour pour over coffee filter
Hello, thank you so much for this review. I am considering buying it but I'm not sure. I was told that the temperature control and heat holding isn't accurate and doesn't keep it at a good, hot consistency. What do you think now that you've used it for several years?
Where did you hear that feedback??
Even a $50 Kettle is able to hold a consistent temperature, this one absolutely does too. It’s used in most cafes and specialty shops.
Recently I made a video on this too but how to I get the snake game function? I totally missed this out! 🤣
I would love to see this kettle compared to the Oxo, I really love my Oxo and it's far cheaper (if you can get it at the proper price, not highly inflated)
Oxo what?
How is it to clean? Besides having its own heating base how does it stand up to the good old Hario gooseneck kettle? Oh, is the exterior cool to the touch? I checked Amazon and it didn't say. If it stays cool on exterior that might make it worth the price as im getting old and clumsy 😄.
Cleaning is very easy! There is no exposed heating element, just a smooth interior.
Unfortunately, the outside is still hot to the touch when in use
Love your honest opinions!!
Can you recommend any other electric kettle for Americano drinkers?
I
Thanks
If purely for Americanos, a gooseneck kettle won't be required (and will just lead to slower pours) so check out the non-gooseneck version of the Stagg :)
Can you send me the description? I was looking for non gooseneck Stagg but unable to find one. Thx
Its called the Fellow Corvo EKG :)
I found one at a garage sale today for $2.00. Some oldsters were downsizing and were clearing out their house 🤟🏼
Nice!!!
What about the Brewista?
switch between Fahrenheit or Celsius if you’re making a long black or Americano
May i know what dripper is that? It's so aesthetically pleasing
Looks like a ceramic hario v60 :)
I recently shared the exact model on my 2021 pour over setup video! But yes, it's just a basic ceramic V60
its the classic V60, produce wonderful coffee
Man, I’m seeing a lot of comments here from customers whose unit broke within a year. Has their QA improved? I’m considering their Pro.
Hi! Do you recommend the stove top version of stagg? Or the timemore electric kettle? Both have similar price. Thank you!
The more important factor in that comparison would be your preferred workflow. I'd personally choose the flexibility of an electric kettle every time.
Can the Fellow Stagg EKG Kettle be used with a Smart Plug for scheduling, or does the soft touch power button not activate from no power to powered (like a manual switch on a non digital Bodum kettle)?
No, the unit doesn’t power on immediately when the outlet is powered on. It’s a software toggle
I believe the newer Stagg EKG Pro line may have scheduling capabilities
if you unplug this and replug it in? Would turn back on? Im trying to use this with a smart plug to automate tea making
No, it would not turn back on, and the temperature would be reset
How do you know when your water has reached its desired temperature? My current kettle beeps when it's reached it. I know I'd walk away and forget I was making water with out.
The display shows both the current and target temperature. If you have the kettle in hold mode, it will still be waiting for you at the desired temperature even if you forget.
There is no audible chime or alert though
What are the other accessories you are using in this video… specifically the V60 pour-over filter holder? I love the way these two look together, but I know that is not a Fellow brand pour-over.
czcams.com/video/Cl9QOPeBBrU/video.html
How is the surface of this kettle inside? Does it get lots of minerals accumulated over time? Can you comment on day to day clean or maintenance here?
It doesn’t accumulate more or less than any other kettle. Buildup is really more dependant on what water you’re using :)
If there IS buildup, the inside is very smooth with no hidden corners or elements so cleaning is very easy.
As most of these reviews on kettles they fail in some way or another , a very important thing in my mind is when you set the temp to say 90 C , is it then actually 90 C thats the result. And another thing that would have been really nice to know is the selected range in temp, Is that single number or jumps in larger number , like can you choose 90 or 91 , can you choose 90 and then next setting is 90,5 C.
The temperature was very accurate to the selected PID temperature, and the temperature can be adjust in 1 degrees increments in either Celsius of Fahrenheit as shown very briefly at 1:11
Kind of a dumb statement mate. at multiple points in the video you can see the set temperature being odd multiples like 91, 88, degrees etc.... use your brain
@@LifestyleLab_ Thanks , altough i didn't find it that clear , so i ousted looked again and still doesn't find the increments show what you tell here.
@@Adamsavage793 Sorry Adam your wrong and i dont agree with you. Have a nice day.
@@FlemmingDP
you'RE wrong (English is hard sometimes)
1:19 , 1:28 . Tell me what the set temperatures are at those times
Does it have a memory so it stays at the last temp you set it at? Or do you have to adjust it every time you turn it on?
It will stay at the last temperature you set :)
Mine will set to 100°c everytime I turn it back on. I have to adjust it everytime.
@@ngokngakchannel6608 Only if you unplug it
My wife uses this and it appears to be well designed. The spout works well in pouring an even stream of water. One minor quibble is that the knob on the lid broke off after fours years of use. Good thing is that Fellows sells replacement parts including the lid for $5 but the mere fact you can order the lid as a replacement suggests that its construction is rather weak. In fact the knob is lightly welded to the lid at four points with each point the size of a pin prick. For nearly $150, customers expect more.
I would actually argue the fact that they offer a spare lid for sale is a good thing. most products, you just have to buy the thing again in entirety because no one sells spare parts anymore. im actually excited to hear this!
@@Transill Agreed...it's a good thing.
Just ordered mine from Costco. Easy return forever, with no time limit. My last pour over, from Amazon, $ 90, miserable. Hot to the touch, cut my knuckle removing the top.
Lucky. They don’t have it anymore.
I’m so sad I didnt purchase it then 😭
I think I'll just stick with my Bonavita kettle. It still has pretty much all the same features as the Stagg EKG, but it was only $50 on amazon. I don't even mind the 6 minute heat time. It still holds the right temperature once it gets there; and it's usually ready by the time I prepped my aeropress and some breakfast.
I did still REALLY want the Stagg EKG+ for the smart features; especially if I could have the kettle turn itself on in the mornings. But there's no way I'm burning _$200_ on a kettle just for that one extra feature.
You can just buy a cheap outlet timer and have it come on every day at the same time. Don't forget to keep enough water in it.
Putting the Stagg on a smart switch will NOT turn it on automatically. There isn’t a hard power switch, the main button needs to be pushed.
@@LifestyleLab_ I wasn't referring to the Stagg. I was referring to the person's comment about the Bonavita to which I replied.
@@yj10guy I appreciate the input, but it doesn't work on the Bonavita kettle either. It also has a button switch.
I have seen some people online add a bypass and a microcontroller to connect it. But I wouldn't recommend it unless you know what you're doing.
Does it beep or make noises? Looking for a quiet kettle
No beeps or clicks, this is a very quiet kettle. Even when heating, because it's so quick it's quieter than most kettles I've used previously
Your channel is amazing. I would really appreciate it if you removed the music :)
Ordered one a few days and still waiting for it to ship.
Nice! What color??
@@LifestyleLab_ the matt black. I think it looks clean and match the rest of my kitchen gears. Got some glass atmos canisters too 😀
How much the capacity of water?
0.9L
The plastic base is a little disappointing; for that price I feel like it should be made from the same steel as the kettle itself. Still a gorgeous piece of kit though.
I do agree! 👍
Yea, but then it would cost as much as a graphics card.
I would pay that much for one if I knew it would last for a good many years. I’ve spent that much and a bit more in the last 2 years on two kettles that are no longer working. One was Cosori that lasted 18 months, the other I can’t remember the brand…I’ve tried to forget after it failing after 6 months. I think it’s fine to review them when they are new but I’d like to see reviews after some years of use. I see this Stagg Kettle only has a 1 year warranty…that’s not very long.
Fellow Kettles are used very commonly in commercial settings. For home use duty cycles, they are pretty bomb proof. I haven’t personally known anyone who’s had an issue
@@LifestyleLab_ that’s good to know.
That’s the same with every kettle I tried so yeah.
It would help if head not chopped off.
Which dripper is he using?
Random craft sale ceramic V60
@@LifestyleLab_ thanks! Need to hit up the craft sales apparently…
Overpriced for what you and small usable volume
would purchase IF it was magnetic induction heating---but then it would be more costly.
That would be very cool!
Not sure how big the advantage would be to heating speed / accuracy though
What value would they provide ?
Style or just plain ugly?
For what purpose the kettle? Pouring. Everything else is secondary.
This would have been a far better review if compared with Brewista and included Hario swan-neck kettle the industry
Brewista appears to give better control of the pouring.
If very little extra control compared with Hario swan-neck kettle then not worth paying the extra.
There should also have been external measurement of the temperature.
@
There are three people I go to as experts on pour over, one of whom is Stefanos Domatiotis.
I note in demonstration of Chemex technique Stefanos Domatiotis is using the Brewista kettle.
It’s not worth it. The Fellow Stagg EKG is a POS. I have the same exact one as in this video and it broke after 3mo of use. The base will not heat the kettle anymore. All it did was sit on my counter. And you can audibly hear something rattling inside the base. There was also a small piece of copper laying on the base where the connection happens for the heating. I’m assuming it grounds the kettle by making contact with the wall of the inner part of the connection. What a huge disappointment for a $145.00 Kettle.
Sounds like you may have received a defective unit...
@@LifestyleLab_ yeah, very disappointing. Fellow customer service has reached out to me after my inquiry. They do have a 1yr warranty. Don’t know yet what they will be doing. I’ll come back here and repost the outcome.
@@jimc12 what’s the outcome
@@alexitanguay they sent me a new replacement and I sent the broken one back. While the $25 Amazon replacement I purchased to replace the broken stagg it's still running like a champ. The stagg is still sitting it the box unopened at home.
it doesn't need a cord?!
The base is what connects to the wall (with a cord )
Uncle Roger says, good look dont cook. For an extra $20, Takahiro will run circle around this good looking kettle.
But run circles in what way? Quality of laminar flow? Because it had better pour darn well for me to forgo an electric kettle for a stovetop one
@@LifestyleLab_ Have you use a Takahiro? Same reason I would forego an electric kettle as well. I don't think that many can match the flow control of a Takahiro.
I have not, but appreciate the recommendation :)
I received one as a gift and finally, after sitting on the shelf for a year plus, I decided to put it to use. After about 4 mos. it quit heating. Customer service offered helpful tips and I sent pics to ensure I had been caring for it properly. The end result is I had it longer than a year so no warranty. They offered me 10% off a new base or 10% off the kettle and base. Not going to spend that much money for something that couldn't withstand daily use for less than 6 mos. I'll go back to my stovetop kettle. I would have hoped the company would take greater pride in their product.
These are regularly used commercially. While I do agree that your instance is unfortunate and I would have hoped they could help more, I don’t think your one experience with a lemon should inform other buying decisions
"Depending on if you live in America, or the rest of the world." As an American, I wish we would just switch to metric and use Celsius
Not america
As an American, I’m fine with our units of measurement.
I received my Stagg EKG today. To make a long story short, it was a pretty easy decision for me to send it back immediately after a single test. And that's why:
1. The workmanship is really substandard - that of the station, but also that of the lid.
2. The cable cannot be rolled up in the station - absolute standard even with the cheapest quality products (I could have lived with that because I would have simply shortened the cable).
3. Biggest minus: When pouring out, the water not only comes out of the Stagg's spout, but also out of the leaky lid. This is absolutely unacceptable for the price.
4. The water can be poured precisely from the spout, but unfortunately only very slowly. Good for coffee and tea, too slow for everything else.
2/4 of those complaints are user error. You are overfilling the kettle, and pouring speed is meant for pour over brewing. If you want higher flow, get the Corvo.
@@LifestyleLab_ I filled the kettle up to the "max" line. Maybe I poured too quickly, but why don't they just seal the lid?! I don't need a high pouring speed, but this one is way too slow (you would need a second kettle for French press … makes no sense). The Corvo doesn't hava a sealed lid either, right?
This is like saying “I used my driver off the tee box, why would I need a putter for the green?” You bought a tool specifically for precision pour over. It was never remotely designed to function well for French press. Research research research
@@LifestyleLab_ There are other kettles who are precise for pour over - and fast enough for french press. I in fact did some research by watching your video here - but you ddin't mention it's that slow and that it's leaking. But I agree with you: I probably should have watched James Hoffmann's video (The Best Electric Temperature Controlled Gooseneck Kettles), too.
Your video voice sounds like the riddler
Reviews on Amazon are mixed.
What would make it even more estheticly pleasing if it had the option to be CORTLESS
Where would the power come from??
@@LifestyleLab_ Maybe the hose attaches. and you can use with thout depending on charge? i have seen products like that.
Wanted more information on how to set but what ever
Information on how to set what?
A different reviewer who purchased one (as a true customer) returned it as he was unimpressed with the ergonomics and build quality, he felt the finish was rough and the switchgear cheap and plasticky. His verdict was that it was very over priced. Usually I am confident in your reviews but this one has the "shilling for the manufacturer" advert feel, masquerading as a review. Mentioning a Kardashian as a plus point is a low for anyone in a serious product review. This is just a paid advert with a kickback link to Amazon. Unsuscribed
Hi Stephen, sorry to hear that as I always enjoy your comments on all our videos!
Reviewers are in the end allowed to have differing opinions, and as you know, my reviews always put honestly first, whether the unit was purchased (usually the case) or provided for review.
The finishing quality on the Stagg EKG is certainly not rough... I'm not sure what that other reviewer would be referring to. Wobblyness in the temperature dial? That I can confirm is true.
If you watch to the end, you can in fact see that out final verdict is that this kettle is not worth the staggering price, but it is a lovely kettle that would make a nice gift to one's self, or a close friend if you're willing to splurge
The traditional lines on this kettle and the “less is more” simplicity of its form is deceiving. A tea kettle should serve one purpose only- boiling water. And the art of making tea or French press coffee should not be interrupted or corrupted with any technology or gimmicks.
This kettle is the ultimate anathema to the tradition of a tea kettle and the while ritualistic process of making and serving tea.
It has temperature adjustment. That’s required for making any good tea or coffee. It doesn’t ruin the ritual in any way…
Mine died after a year... Cheap components.
That’s definitely not the norm… this kettle is widely used, even commercially
Where's your head bro?
Mine lights up with “Fellow” and then goes dark. Piece of crap.
Every product line has defects William. Please don’t assume your singular experience means that this industry standard kettle is a piece of crap….
is pour over coffee only for the rich? guess I'll stick to my $20 watershit maker
Absolutely not!
Pour over is actually one of the least expensive brewing methods. All you need is a grinder, filter papers, and a cone! There's no need to go overboard with "luxury" products like this if its not in the budget
😂🤣😂🤣 $20 watershit maker
overpriced
Who cares what Kendal has?!.
It represents that this kettle has cultural significance, which is an odd thing for an appliance such as a kettle to typically have. More of a fun fact, may be interesting to some, and provide zero value to others :)
As soon as I saw that dumb “game” on it, I hated it. This would be cool if it had NO technology other than boiling water.
Interesting take…. It’s just an Easter egg
This kettle is a piece of garbage. Mine had to be replaced within six months due to a defective off-on button on base of kettle. Then it happened again this week. Fellow customer service is a only reachable by email and not by phone which is a nightmare. Also they due not stand by their product once the one year warranty expires.
Your isolate experience is certainly not indicative of the quality of a kettle that is used globally in commercial settings. Sorry you got a lemon. I do agree, the dial should feel more robust for the price tag, as I believe I mention in this review
They are grossly overpriced with subpar quality. Makes a beautiful paper weight though.
Widely used even in commercial settings. I know plenty of baristas who swear by them :)
@@LifestyleLab_ Sorry I am 72 and have been making coffee for many years. My opinion is just as good as any baristas. Fellow Stagg does not have a customer service number to call with problems and makes you deal with them solely by email. That is unacceptable and to me is an indication they do not stand by their product and to go elsewhere for a an electric kettle.
That's some pretty cool 'gear' 😉
