      They’re a blast, however: Brake pads are soft and ferrous which causes the grooves in the discs to rust and make scraping noises.
      Either the clutch, the centre diff or both are made of pure cheese. Mines making a hideous noise when pulling away whilst warmed up, after just 18k of motorway miles, and Toyota basically don’t wanna know.
      Toyota don’t seem to be willing to do anything about all the interior rattles that developed within 10k.

      Their cold wet grip isn’t the best either… But that’s not a bad thing in the GR, because 260hp isn’t really enough power to have much fun without provoking slides with Scandinavian flicks.

      DSG is only an advantage to people who can’t drive. Gen Y & Z mostly haven’t even learned to how to use 3 pedals properly, because of the lack of manuals in this country & the simple fact that they grew up on playstations & X-box’s, so most of them don’t have a clue about shifting & pedal techniques. But around a track the difference is negligible to someone who can heel & toe, left foot brake & double de-clutch.

      That's just not true. The Corolla chassis is completely different, the front and rear suspension is completely different, and one is a 5 door hatch while the other is a 3 door hatch. The only thing they have in common is the drivetrain. I expect the Corolla to be faster on power circuits and slower on technical ones. The longer wheelbase of the C will help with high speed stability, though

  • @giggsow9760
    @giggsow9760 Před 2 lety +53

    Sport mode on the Yaris sends 70% power to the rear while track mode is 50/50 front to rear. As long as you're on the power then track mode should be more stable, but it will be a bit looser going into the corners without stability control keeping the back in check. So in track mode you end up with more rotation during turn in, and then more stability powering through the corner.

    You'd always see the falcons tearing away up the mountain gaining a handy lead, and then across the top of the mountain the Torana was so much quicker through the turns, and they would eventually be back where they started by the time they crossed the finish line, so it was a constant back and forward and usually came down to driver error. It's mad how the Golf R is rare there and the Yaris GR "has been out a while". Whereas here, the Golf R is as common as Covid :-) and from memory, there are 4 Yaris GRs in the whole country. I know some people have bought them to store as a collectable. Anyway, another great video!

    The ‘circuit pack’ GR Yaris would destroy the Golf R, and 90% of GR Yaris sales are ‘circuit packs’. You raced the standard car against the quickest Golf, it would have been worth mentioning that in your video.

      One of the reviewers said in a gr Yaris video that Toyota in Australia say more than half of the buyers chose the circuit pack on the gr Yaris, and looks like you don't know much about the car either, circuit pack isn't an option of Rallye, Rallye and circuit pack is the same thing, it's just called circuit pack overseas, it costs about 5k more than the base Yaris which starts at 49k, so not alot of money for alot of extra bits, front and rear diffs, better breaks, lighter aloy wheels and sports suspension

      Don't really give a toss what some random "reviewer" said.
      I didn't claim the circuit pack was an option.
      Rallye and circuit pack aren't actually the same thing. Rallye comes with those performance parts standard, but is not the same as an overseas GR Yaris with circuit pack. The cars are contented differently between regions.

    The Yaris comes standard with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. The most important tool needed for a track is correct tyres. Cornering and braking all come from it. The Golf would have done so much better if it also had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres on.

    • @TheFranpito
      @TheFranpito Před 2 lety +2

      actually this is the "base" yaris wich has pretty crappy dunlop tires. The trackpack adds pilot sport 4s, front and rear torsen diffs, forged wheels (2kg lighter per corner) and stiffer suspension

    You Guys have done almost all the Yaris things I've wanted to. Half my life ago I tracked a 98 Mercury Mystique LS with SVT mods and it would regularly embarrass a c5 corvette an S2k a Turbocharged 350z and my buddies Gold GTi. Now on the street I couldn't do much.. 170hp manual sedan only do so much but a 2800lb car well balanced on Falken rubber was pretty hard to beat on short track. That said my brother wouldn't race me with his T/A or Mustang...

    After years of churning out only bland and boring cars its is really nice to see Toyota return to making fun and exciting cars again like they did back in the 90s.
    I like how they've not overdone it on the tech front either - Can still get a manual box to stir the cogs yourself. I wish more manufacturers still offered manual even if only as an option.... Toyota has obviously been listening to enthusiasts and delivered on all fronts. Nice work guys, and welcome back!
