Univers by Typface | Build & Typing Test

Today I’m sharing a board from Typface with you. It’s their first drop of this year and it is an absolute gem.

The Univers is a 70% layout keyboard that drops the Nav keys and keeps your Arrow keys and F row while also eliminating your right shift. Now for some this may be a deal breaker, but for me it’s my new favorite
layout.
I truly love the compact size of this board. It’s no longer than a standard 65% keyboard and only slightly taller with the added F row.
The building process of this board was very straightforward if you’ve ever built a keyboard before with the exception of the Ezmate connection that Typface opted to use instead of a standard JST. Now it didn’t add levels of difficulty to the building process, but it did have me questioning whether or not I had properly connected it.
The Univers opts for the use of the Tadpole mounting system for this board. Which ends up being a very bouncy typing experience even with the use of the Aluminum plate that I chose for my build. Which was a welcome surprise for me personally.
Sound wise the Univers is a no nonsense board that doesn’t come with any foams or ways to modify your sound. It’s just your PCB, Plate, Switches, & Keycaps here. Which I really really love. The board sounds very stellar and has a very bright and airy sound profile in the configuration that I’ve chosen to use. Now while I use the word “airy” I don’t mean it in a negative way here because the board has anything but a thin sound to it.
Typface has confirmed that they will be restocking the Univers in Q3 of this year. They have said they will probably run a different set of colors though.
