Honestly, I'm sick of Sonya beating and killing characters she has absolutely no right to.
In MK9, she beat Bi-Han then Kitana and Jade TOGETHER.
In MKX, she beat Scorpion, Sub-Zero then Quan Chi, one after another.
In MK11, she beat Geras.
In this movie, she kills Reptile.
I'm absolutely done with this woman and her ridiculous plot armor. I hate how she gets a pass in all of her BS because she is MK's first female character.

The sonic/robot voice back and forth is the funniest thing in the world to me
You know, even though they complained about needing to explain everything it would be really nice if one of these games/films/etc. actually gave definitive rules at least once. Just once so then at least everyone else could use it as a guideline from then on. Preferably as tight and simple as possible with no caveats for the host changing the rules on the fly, since at that point the rules are meaningless in a tournament established by the gods themselves.
WHAT IF, We had a movie that predated Mortal Kombat?
You know, when Edenia was still around?
Movie starts with Shao Kahn's betrayal and coup. We see him conquer realm after realm despite Raiden's best efforts to aid those who need his help.
AND failing.
After conquering Edenia, Shao Kahn turns his aim towards Earthrealm because of the constant intervention of Raiden.
He fails because of a intervention of the Order Realm. Finally a tournament is set up because of the constant pleas of Raiden (which were ignored until the fall of Edenia) and movie ends in a note that Earthrealm was given a chance.
The next movie can be a easy time skip where we lost 9 tournaments in a row and now in the era of MK1. With likes of Liu Kang, Johnny Cage and others.
I just wish the entire film was the beginning of the film. I don't care if it's "Mortal Kombat," the subtitle is *"SCORPION'S REVENGE,"* have it entirely about our yellow edgy boy!
Yeah but part of his revenge tour happens during the tournament. Movie should have been a bit longer, having Scorpion die twice and then getting revenge on Bi Han during or towards the end of the tournament would have been great

I mean, to be honest, it was kinda stupid from the writer to say that. With that one sentence, he made the plot of his own movie objectively worse.
I also think BruskPoet side came up with the argument that we only "saw" Scorpion fight Shang Tsung warriors in the movie. Using non existant part of the movie as your point also was not best look

I don’t really like Johnny in Scorpion’s Revenge. The writers don’t give him much of a filter and he rarely shows other parts of his character. When a character doesn’t have anything other purpose than being a joke they become a minion.

I love how you told Brusk an actual fact that the Lin kuai are working for Shang and he still disagreed. I disagree with writers who are just trying to get heat or attention but this Jeremy fella genuinely came up with a good answer
I enjoyed this film alot. Just a genuinely fun gruesome Saturday morning MK. Flaws of course but not enough to make me dislike it
Now about The Choice. The thing I didn't like a Shang Sung did nothing to prevent scorpio from getting his revenge once he forfeited. He did not teleport Quan Chi away, he didn't make a firewall to prevent Scopion from coming to them, he didn't activate his forcefield, he just stood there and let it happen.
He cares more about winning the tournament. So I can see why he wouldn't give a damn about Quan Chi afterwards XD

Ok I apologize because I have one more comment to add about one of the arguments, and it's about Johnny Cage. I think I can explain why Cage works in the 95 and MK9 universes, but can't pull it off in Legends.
In MK 95, Johnny's fully aware that Mortal Kombat is a no-holds-barred tournament, and he's willingly going to make a statement about his stunt skills. He's the comedic relief and has his goofy moments ("I can smell her perfume), but he's also not a complete idiot and his relationship with Sonya isn't just "unga bunga pretty girl" (He does some back and forth ribbing with the "Do I look like your ___?" lines). During his fight with Scorpion, he ACTUALLY fights back and takes it seriously, a trait of his that Raiden acknowledges as commendable; after Art Lean's death, (even though it was brief, watching someone you've spent time around get brutally beaten and soul-sucked is probably shattering to experience), he develops a sense of selflessness because he doesn't want to see Sonya or Liu Kang, people he's grown close to, getting hurt or killed. So he went from a shallow snarky movie-star to a heroic protector.
In MK9, Johnny Cage comes to the tournament unaware of what it really is. Yes, in this installment he's a little more vapid and oblivious, but even pretty early on we can see the good sides of his character (refusing to kill the opponents he faces, genuinely complimenting Reptile and Baraka's physical prowess, etc). And I understand it's because of chapter timing, but his turnaround into completely respecting Sonya happens quickly and smoothly. MK9 Johnny knows when to reel it in.
Now meanwhile in Legends... take all that development and skill and positive traits and chuck it out the window. Johnny thinks the tournament is some movie stunt for over HALF the movie. He quips as much as an MCU character, and can't gather himself to fight a Tarkatan 1v1 (even though he fights a shit-ton of more intimidating monsters in a damn Swarm encounter). He's there to constantly be Sonya's punching bag and only ONCE did he have a genuine moment reminiscent to MK9 Johnny Cage where he diffuses the situation between himself, Liu Kang, Sonya, and Scorpion. He's more than just oblivious in this movie, he's a flat-out dipshit. And his character had no real growth in terms of fighting skill or personality since we see him regress in the next movie. He's a flanderized version of what Johnny Cage is supposed to be because people who don't engage with Mortal Kombat think this is funny for some reason.
For the 1st 25 minutes of the debate I watching Brusk's reaction and I was wondering why he kept like looking away and wasn't saying much, but then for the video to cut to him playing fuckin Battlefront 2 while Sonic is just going off in the background, it made me lose it. You cannot make this shit up.

The one thing you guys seem to get hung up on is the disagreement on whether or not Johnny is funny. But in my opinion, it shouldn't matter whether or not Johnny is funny to the audience. What should be important to this discussion is that he should be charismatic. He can crack as many unfunny jokes as he wants, or be an asshole to as many people as he wants, so long as he's charming. That's the main reason why people like Kano in the 2021 film after all.
It's a mistake to write Johnny as just simply the funny guy with no depth. Because what draws people to his character is his wit and attitude. He my be obnoxious and self absorbed, but that's because he has the skills and fighting prowess to back it all up. He ideally shouldn't be a bumbling fool that runs from an earnest fight.
Nothing really "charming" about him, unless you have a different meaning of the word. Kano was an asshole whose dialogue is basically "shit-fuck-shit-fuck-shit-fuck" every other word, but that's almost the entire vernacular of a lot of people today, so no shock they think his "kharacter" is good or the best. He's just the one who's written to have to most talking (probably to actually be annoying, which many people feel that way) and also the BEST ACTED of the entire crew, aside from Max Huang and maybe Joe Taslim. In no way was Kano written properly though, because if he was he'd be a TOUGH SCRAPPER, cunning AND SNARKY, instead of a skinny bumbling idiot that is only there to be the comic relief, which should have been Johnny Cage but if you're gonna leave him out of the 1st movie that's supposed to be a prequel, they should have split the duties with him and Cole so he lead can have somewhat of a personality. Instead they overdid it with Kano a but with some unnecessary pop culture references and whatever.

@@fightingmedialounge519 But, as evident by this discussion, funny is very subjective. charisma on the other hand can be broken down to a set of traits that can vary depending on the character. Which would allow anyone to identify why a character's humor works or not. Completely eliminating the subjective argument of personally finding them funny.
In addition, it's also important to remember that charisma doesn't automatically translated to funny or humorous. A charismatic character CAN be comedic, but charisma can also be a trait of serious and stoic personalities.

Sure their are some recurring elements you can find in various people who have been called charismatic, but the same can be said for people who are called funny. Never said it did. I said they go hand in hand. As in why someone finds characters funny often is the same reason they find them charismatic and vice versa. So again, focusing on charisma wouldn't change anything as they would ultimately make the same points( one side finds him annoying and don't like him, the other side doesn't and does).

In my Opinion I Love Scorpion's Revenge as it's a Great MK Movie Close to 1995 and Snow Blind,and it's Nice to See Friends Interact with Each Other.
It would have been better if scorpion's story took place but in the background u can see the events of mk1 take place
I think team dark had better arguments in this debate, but i'm totally biased because i'm not a huge fan of this movie.
I don't like the fact that this movie is about Skorpion, but they put the mk1 tournament in it, making Skorpion the ultimate hero of the tournament, also a lot of bad ideias that guys discussed
Where is it established that as the host, Shang Tsung cannot also count himself amongst Outworld's roster? And if it is established, how established is it that it wouldn't fit under typical Shang Tsung bending rules?
If Goro wins, he just surrenders his bout and they all win. If Goro is defeated, Outworld gets one last chance and hopes Goro beat the opponent down enough for Shang to take him out.
Because that's not what the writers wanted to happen
In the Midway Era, it's because Shang Tsung was originally from Earth Realm before studying sorcery from Shao Kahn.
So, while he can compete in the tournament, Shang Tsung's victory would be for Earth Realm, not Outworld. So Shang Tsung trained Goro instead.
This is ignoring several retcons, mind you, since in MK1 Outworld didn't exist yet, but that is the simplified version.
I'm waaaaaay late to the party but yes the lin kuei were working for shang tsung not only in the first game but in mythologies sub-zero, the 95 movie ( its weird he ssaid slaves under his power but the reason i think that line was used was because he was more powerful than both of them combined they wouldn't dare challenge him), 2021 movie, MK2011 and Conquest (the TV show).
They weren't working for Shang in the first game, Sub Zero was literally sent to assasinate him. There is no way the Lin Kuei would fight to the detriment of their own realm, that's stupid.
This misconception was introduced in the 1995 movie but became more apparent in MK9 where they're paid by Shang to kill warriors from the tournament which directly contradicts what Bo Rai Cho said in Deception. The realm that you were born in is essentially the realm you're fighting for when participating in the tournament.
It's just a shame the director couldn't keep his mouth shut. Nothing in the movie suggested that the Lin Kuei were working for Shang, Sonic probably originally got the idea from MK9 because he's familiar with the NRS games, not Midway ones.
@@thelastcrow5660 his arcade ending in the first game was non-canon and later introduce was that cryomancers originally hailed from Outworld. Aside from that the lin kuei joined forces with Outworld through shang tsung as a proxy and later shao khan and if we add the lore from Mythologies (which was also referenced in 11 aftermath) the lin kuei stopped at nothing to retrieve Shinnok's Amulet for quan chi which led to the extermination of the shirai ryu as payment. After all that the lin kuei chose to fight on behalf of Outworld for payment which is their way.
The 95 movie was just shang tsung being an arrogant dick by implying he was stronger than both by saying they're slaves under his power.
Brusk seem to have a tendency of ignoring others talking points. Like, the others are talking about how useless is the choice since Scorpion has no reason to kill Liu Kang, while he just awnsers with stuff like "well, we dont know want the bad guys to win", which is completly irrelevant to the point.
He straight up said he knows it better than the writer, so yeah. You're absolutely right.

Stopped at the whole "Raiden best efforts" thing. No sir. Raiden is the defender of Earthrealm until he becomes an Elder God and then relinquished the title in order to defend Earthrealm again.

Because he is aware that in the long game, Earth realm will be in danger against a outworld that just keeps expanding.

Late to comment, but I gotta say listening to all of these, I think I'd be on Team Dark more (so just call me Shadow). There were more ways in which the movie could have at least considered taking different approaches to certain aspects (like the tournament rules with Raiden, if Raiden can step in to save Jax, then he really could have stopped the Lin Kuei and the Black Dragon. You can't just leave it vague like that).
Reptile is the coolest of the ninjas and he never gets a single fucking W. In fact I want Boon-boy to come out and admit he's angry that Johnny Cage vs. Scorpion was overshadowed by Liu Kang vs. Reptile in the '95 film and he has been on a Reptile slander spree since.

The only thing I dislike about Scorpion Revenge is how they butchered Liu character even make him lose against Goro when in canon, he is the one who defeat him. Heck, he need Scorpion help when he almost dies to Goro. Thank goodness, Battle of the Realm manage to fix that problem by making Liu Kang kick Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn and Shinnok a** like what happened in Original Timeline canon.

Scorpion chose to sabotage Outworld.
There's no rules on this as the same thing can happen if Kano was with the earthrealmers in the tournament, he can kill those in his own side and not break any rules. Outside of any "sanctioned fight" or during some other earthrealm warrior's fight, Kano could win it for Outworld by just simply sabotaging his own side.
You can not interfere in the fights once the tournament starts that is the problem!

I feel like the film would have been better if Shang Tsung said either kill Liu Kang and I hand you quanchi or I kill Quan Chi so there is an actual ultimatum you know actually giving scorpion the sense of him losing what he wants perhaps having him really consider whether or not is best to kill Liu Kang and maybe have a scene where he looks at Liu Kang and then briefly fights him but makes up a plan so that he can beat the ultimatum also I love him but brusk cannot debate at all he really ignored the fact that you were never saying that the Scorpion should have killed Liu Kang what you were saying was there should have actually been Stakes involved

The writers don't explain the rules on purpose to keep their options open and avoid writing themselves in to a corner. But Dursk or whatever , those kinds of fans will accept this and not think critically so the writera arw golden. Scorpion's revenge is a good dumb action movie if you don't want to engage with it other than half watching it while eating something. When you take the time to watch you'll realize how actually shitty it is. Even if Scorpion's revenge was the only mortal kombat thing to exist it would still be laughably bad with the wack as hell narrative pacing and the extreme lack of characterization for any character that isn't a yellow edge lord and bald pasty mother fucka.
