Cool. I'm going to do the lattice trick

How many more heads did they have in the house?

Not trying to mean or anything but I can’t understand how much you spend on power if using your conventional system and then when switching to ductless it is so cheap to run because here in Australia using a ductless unit still costs a lot

Yes, in the pacific NW of america it is 4 times less expensive that electric baseboard

That isn't the only consideration. The condenser should cost about 100-200 more than an old fashioned split system. Instead we see that it costs considerably more. The "handlers" are in essence the same as wall shakers, less the pump and condenser, your are running copper for that. Therefore the cost of each head should be less than a couple hundred dollars. Even cheap window mount ac units have pretty much the same bells and whistles that are on the mini splits....at $300 a unit total. Instead we see the zone heads are 600-1500 each. That makes absolutely NO Sense at all.
Then we talk of the install costs. Even looking at this install proves that it is EASIER by far than installing ducted systems and yet EVERY contractor wants more to install them. Not just a little more, a LOT more.
In other words, the entire cost of a minisplit system should be conventional ducted system minus duct cost, plus 250 or so per "register" plus copper and install of copper (less than 1/2 day for two men on any new build).
Manufacturers want us to believe that these are "new and magical" systems. No, they have been around over 50 years now. They are tried and proven technology altogether. Add some new electronic boards? yeah ok if you want to. But those boards are actually CHEAP to manufacture and in fact any tinkerer can do the same with an off the shelf $10 programmable board and some thermocouples as far as head controls. The manifold controls are a little more complex, but still nothing like expensive to make.

Ok I’m going to say this because this is what you don’t understand mini-splits are inverter driven. What dose that mean? They have the ability to precisely control the outdoor fan indoor fan and compressor rotation depending on the temp in the room and the outdoor temp. Instead of turning on and off when the room temperature changes.
For example you set the temp to 25 (77). a conventional unit will run until it reaches that temp then turn off completely a ductless unit will run at full blast and as it gets closer and closer to the set temp it will slow down the compressor and fan until it reaches the set temp. when it reaches the set temp it won’t turn off it will just run very slowly this method uses less power than a window unit this means you don’t have any temp fluctuations.
A conventional ducted system or a window shaker will never have the same bells and whistles as a mini split (unless it’s a inverter window or ducted unit). the indoor unit has a control board for the swing and fan thirmisters and other things like that it also has a board tho send signals to the outdoor unit. the outdoor unit has a vfd drive for the compressor and fan to control the rotation speed a main logic board and a power management board to convert power to dc.
so in conclusion they are very different to conventional units and have a lot more bells and whistles then a conventional system. Trust me if u spent the money and bought a system you would never regret it because of the comfort. I’ve grown up with then and all my friends and family ether have them or a inverter ducted so I really don’t know what a conventional ducted feels like. since I live in Australia all we can get is inverter units ducted or ductless but we can get a inverter mini-split for quite cheap the only issue is that it will be made in China. The quality brands Daikin Panasonic ect are quite expensive.
