Hi friends! Loving the feedback so far, and very happy to start a dialogue about why you feel the way you feel. I'd appreciate omitting name calling in your comments, it distracts from any legitimate differences in opinion. I'd also love a little more specificity in how my comments bothered you. Do you disagree that her approach isn't a sustainable way to teach new singers? Do you disagree with me saying she knows her instrument extremely well and is doing very difficult things? Do you disagree with me saying that she connects very well to her audience and that it's fine to like her? Or do you just believe that anyone having any opinion that doesn't 100% match up with yours is tantamount to murder.
Very happy to see the comments, hoping that they continue to feed the algorithm and get my opinions in front of more superfans so we can continue this dialogue for the rest of my life, until one of you surely sends poison to my residence.

You poor fools, you just don't get what this is all about. Angelina Jordan is an ORACLE
Oracles have existed in human form in every culture around the world. Many are still noted in our time, such as the Oracles at Delphi in Greece, the Chief Oracle of Tibet, and the Oracles of ancient Egypt, but there are countless examples. They are the remnants in our minds of a time in which we all remembered. How else can we explain the hypnotic effect this creature has on all who dare experience her?

My immediate reaction is that the two of you who have not heard Angelina much, or recently, seemed to approach this from a technical viewpoint, looking for things in the performance that did not fit your way of teaching voice. I realize that these are reaction videos, but offering critiques and criticisms after a few seconds seemed more about you than about Angelina or her performance. Angelina is a vocal artist, though I readily admit that her performance in an outdoor setting at the end of a tiring set, is not the perfection we are used to hearing from her. That said, I don’t think you made a single remark about the performance as a whole. For example, criticizing the breathy opening before knowing where she’s going after the first few lines makes little sense to me. Angelina’s performances have a rhythm-and you missed that. This song builds from the opening, no matter who sings it, so I found those preliminary critiques hard to understand even though you agreed afterward that Whitney started the same way.
A second point is that almost all of what didn’t seem to fit your idea of vocal technique I saw as part of Angelina’s stylistic interpretation-but I’ve listened to her hundreds of times. Sam-I remembered that you did a review of Angelina before (Bohemian Rhapsody), and you really liked the performance and specifically talked about the style Angelina used to deliver that song. I think the same applies here-with a different genre-that the stylistic elements are intentional, complementary, and appropriate for this interpretation. But I think two of you missed that by not hearing this as a stylistic whole. The whole is more than the sum of its parts, and I think that was lost here.

Hey Sam I promise not to ship you poison, or hire a hit man, or smoother you in your sleep but can you please at least REVIEW AJ AT HHER BEST. For F_ _ K sake. Out of her entire catalogue you guys chose this which is fine but not her specialty or the style she's known for. She sings this song mostly because its a popular fan request To appreciate her artistry you could have reacted to "My Funny Valentine" czcams.com/video/bWiLOnHJYxg/video.html released earlier this year. Her rendition is a masterclass in Jazz technique and vocal agility.
Or what about her latest release of "Suspicious Mind" a beautiful unique arrangement of an Elvis classic that still pays homage to the King and his 1968 Christmas comeback special. Plus you could give this wonderful artist some damn recognition by reviewing her original releases "Million Miles" a tribute to the memory of her grandfather she wrote at age 14 and released it under her new label Republic Records at 15. The other original single is 7th heaven another fun upbeat jazzy song she wrote.
I'm going to stick around on your channel and see if you actually give (her music) a fair shake. Their is so much available showing off her true style and original artistry. ✌and cheers🍺

Hi Sam! This is the first time I've watched one of your videos and felt...taken aback I guess. It's because I don't care for Vanessa's approach to the analysis or her critical style. You've featured her and Marc in a few recent videos but this is the first one I've seen so I can't say if it's just specific to this performance or not. And let me preface by saying that any friend of yours is a friend of ours, I read her bio on Vocal Ease, and she is obviously a qualified performer and vocalist (and sounds like a generally awesome person).
What I mean is that you work overtime to ensure that your critiques and analyses are not just constructive but also nice. If what you are trying to offer will not help someone, or especially if it might hurt, you won't say it. This is very obvious in your approach and in the community you've cultivated here (and further shown in your request to refrain from name calling in this comment). Even when you are pointing to something potentially negative, you ALWAYS counterbalance it with possible explanations for why it might be happening. You are very kind and very fair.
Seeing someone on your channel whose remarks are more biting and who's providing negative feedback without many useful corrections is a VERY stark contrast with the content you create and work hard to maintain.
If I'm not mistaken, it seemed like you picked up on this at one point and attempted to either soften what Vanessa said or provide an explanation for why it was happening. I thought "Good for you, Sam!" and I also appreciated you stepping in and doing your normal work. It really showed how committed you are to your craft, your channel and the quality of the content you create, and to your core values that clearly guide you in everything you do, which is something else you've made clear in the past.
I kind of felt more down than uplifted after watching this and that's the first time I've ever had that kind of reaction to one of your videos. Which is bumming me out even more. I hope it was just this one time, I'm going to watch some of the other collabs.
Still love you and your channel, Sam! And I've never heard of Angelina Jordan so thank you for the introduction. Have a fantastic weekend! 🥰

Music isn’t about perfection, it’s about the ease of the artists expression, and owning the talent, that’s something nobody can learn, that’s why Angelina is one of the best singers ever in the world, even at her young age, which is also far more interesting than a middle age adult being at her level, she had this voice at 10 years old for god’s sake.

I saw the original portion of this event and her performance sounded awful, due to the sound equipment and the wind distorting all the sound. The director of the festival walked on stage and explained the situation. He asked if she could perform the song again since they corrected the problem. AJ talked to her mother and they chose to repeat the song within 10 minutes/no break. That is the performance that you just evaluated. That is an amazing feat to pull off for anyone at any age and at 16, well, mind blown. Poise is her middle name and she is fearless on stage. The sky is the limit for this young woman.

Voice teachers/trainers, especially younger ones. Has ruined many young talents because of their own ego about rules and laws about what is right. It ends up that the vast majority of them sound the same, no one stands out because they don't get to "play" with their voice and try out things they find fun and exciting. It ends with many just quitting. What's the point of doing something they don't find fun and exciting anymore and sound like 90% of the others. Time and time again, when an artist gets the world's attention, it is because they stand out with e.g. the voice, the manner and use of the voice, unique clothes, hairstyle etc. Thank God there are still some young talents who are 8-10 years old who understand more than many so-called vocal coaches

I appreciate your opinions. She is known to have 1000 "voices", so one performance is just that. The recent "My Funny Valentine" and "Suspicious Minds" show different aspects and capabilities of her voice (as does her studio version of this song). These are recent examples of her talent that might be interesting to chat about. Also, "Mount Everest" from her recent concerts in Norway is something different than we have come to expect. Her own most recent original songs (although not as recent as the above), "Million Miles" and " 7th Heaven" show you her stylistic choices. I'd enjoy hearing more of your joint (yet individual) opinions.

She has been singing professionally since she was 8. She has complete control of her vocal tone and everything she sings is very deliberate. This was the second time she performed this song in this concert. She had just finished it and because of some technical glitches, she re-sung it 2 minutes later. She is a contralto with an observed performance range of Db3 up to Bb5. The things you are pointing out are not random or accidental. It is extremely deliberate and purposeful. I would like to see you react to more of her performances to gain a better understanding of her before making assumptions. Thanks for a thoughtful reaction.

I'm sorry if I at all made you think they weren't intentional. I think they were very intentional and that she knows her voice quite well. She's obviously a very experienced singer.
The whole point of my reactions are to show how I'd work with the student in front of me, whether I know them or not. This is my second reaction to her, and I feel very similarly today as I did during my first reaction. I believe they are working for her but are difficult to do, so I wouldn't generally suggest to a student to aim for a similar approach, most of the time. I do believe some of the things I point out are easier to hear in Angelina's voice since she has such drastically different sounds as she approaches parts of her range in different ways. For people learning to sing it can be difficult to hear those differences, so pedagogically I believe it's useful to analyze her singing.
I also believe it is highly immoral to ask 8 year olds to face the pressures of a high profile performance career. It inevitably ends up with the world asking a child to sound and look like an adult, and I think that's problematic. The fact that Angelina seems to be doing pretty well doesn't change my mind on that.
She obviously connects to her audience and makes people feel things and want to listen to her. Nothing in my analysis takes away from that fact.
Thanks again for your time, Phil!

She was invited by Alan Walker to sing two of his own iconic songs in a live-stream concert in Norway. One of the interesting things about a great coach is knowing when "not" to coach. When tennis player Bjorn Borg played tennis with an unusual grip and tremendous topspin in a groundbreaking way for the time, his coach knew not to change those fundamentals. So it is with voice coaches. With the wrong coach and advice, Angelina could have been directed towards an "easier" style to sing her songs with less mental agility and physical effort; and as a result the world would have lost the uniqueness of one of its greatest and most versatile singers in a generation.

One person once said that there are a lot of good singers in this world who sings beautifully, but without her ability to express feelings and the meaning of the song. Angelina is one of the greatest storytellers you can find. Her versatility is also amazing, and she has it all. I never get tired listening to her. She makes me like music that I did`nt like before like jazz. Love this girl. Ann from Norway

I read the comments. I agree with most of them so I will add only this. You're very good voice coaches I'm sure but, if I were you, I'd go back to school. Do a Master. Angelina will teach you all there is to know about Vocals. I'm Danilo from Rome Italy. I've been an Angel ( that's how us fans call ourselves) for close to 4 years now and I was priviledged to see her live in Norway. This video is from Allsang Pa Grensen on june 22nd 2022. First of 4. Kurbadhagen july 2nd. Kongsberg july 7th. Sandefjord july 10th. I was in Kongsberg. It's not a matter of larynx position, glottide, air, breath and what have you, It's a matter of musical genius. She's 17 now and she's been singing since she was 18 months old, there's a video on the web. She can sing any genre of music you can think of. She has already. I like you guys but, please, less technicalities and more emotions. I'm a singer, 70yo. I've listened and often seen live most of the Greats. Angelina is the greatest.

You came across as pretty harch and more criticizing then all the others and . And after it felt like you was more or less backpaddeling to not get backlash. Angelina fans are very protective of her and if the feel you are wrong you most likely will hear about it.

Angelina has amazing flexibility as can be witnessed by the following songs:
---- Shield [as 12-year old, Angelina co-wrote song. As 12-year old, sung on very popular Scandinavian talk show Skavlan (2.5 to 3 million viewers per show): czcams.com/video/lQtUbVKb0vs/video.html]
[In interview (changes to English at about 0:36 mark) before Angelina sung, paraphrasing, she said that when she sings she goes into endless other world that is full of happiness. She said that song is about someone you love and whose strong love protects you wherever you are. Angelina said song's sound was inspired by Bond films. Her favorite Bond film songs are Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger. She sings few bars of Diamonds Are Forever a cappella. She said that highlight of her career was singing for Quincy Jones' 85th birthday concert in London. When asked if she feels like she is 12 years old, Angelina says she only does when she looks at her passport: czcams.com/video/97hjWg4ToRQ/video.html]
[as 13-year old, sung in artistic video directed by her maternal grandmother Mery Zamani: czcams.com/video/m8OCbAlr_48/video.html. As 13-year old, sung on 7/12/2019 at outdoor concert at Prøysenhuset, Rudshøgda, Norway: czcams.com/video/whH6fnKAooo/video.html. As 12-year old, sung in club-like venue with same band used for 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival: czcams.com/video/9sYypd1yGR4/video.html]
---- I'm Still Holding Out For You (a few days before turning 11-years old, Angelina recorded this demo. This was a cover of Baby FuzZ song. Baby FuzZ was also known by the stage name Sterling Fox. He is Brandon Lowry who has written and produced multiple songs for others including Lana Del Ray, Britney Spears, Avicii, Adam Lambert and Madonna. Angelina’s people did not allow the release of the song because they thought it to be the wrong stylistic choice for her. Baby FuzZ never heard Angelina’s demo until years later. This is a “leaked” version of the song Angelina recorded which at first was blocked by Angelina’s people for fear of copyright infringement issues, but Baby FuzZ really liked the demo and allowed it to stay up on CZcams: czcams.com/video/Dv8mjCh5iiE/video.html)
---- Above The Water [sung by Angelina as 13-year old, and shows her incredible cross genre abilities. She collaborated with Norwegian EDM (Electronic Dance Music) duo TRXD and recorded vocals for song. TRXD is Truls Dyrstad and David Atarodiyan where TRXD represents their names (TRuls X David). In 2020, song was released officially as audio only track and has over 4 million plays on Spotify. This song is third most played song of TRXD on Spotify. However, amazing unofficial video was created that added some footage of shuffle dancers doing variations of Melbourne Shuffle that originated in Melbourne, Australia, in underground rave scene. Although not exactly known when Melbourne Shuffle was developed (probably in mid to late 1980s), it supposedly was first shown publicly in TV interview by Ruppert Keller in 1990. Dance eventually took off and has become very popular in mainstream EDM festival scene, practiced by millions of EDM fans all over world. The 3-hour video New Year Mix 2022 - Best of EDM Party Electro House & Festival Music gives you an excellent look at EDM and the millions of people who love it (czcams.com/video/gQlUknjUX0I/video.html). EDM is so popular that there is a website dedicated to news about it. This song would be played by disc jockeys at a dance location as rave means a lively party or gathering involving dancing and drinking: czcams.com/video/y6SilwnR2Zc/video.html]
---- I Will Survive (as 10-year old, Angelina again hits it out of the park, in another new music genre: disco! This is only disco song to win Grammy. In 2016, Library of Congress deemed Gloria Gaynor's original recording to be "culturally, historically, or artistically significant" and selected it for preservation in National Recording Registry: czcams.com/video/ma7sa_n7k-8/video.html)
---- Song For A [as 13-year old, Angelina sung with music by modern classical composer Nico Cartosio. It can be described as musical poetry. Lyrics come from poem by Robert Burns. Song was written specifically for Angelina as part of mostly instrumentals album Melting (8 instrumentals plus Song For A). Album was recorded at famous Abbey Road studio and released in April 2019: czcams.com/video/Bo3mhxPM-uA/video.html]

---- Love Is A Game (This is on Adele’s fourth studio album, 30, released in 2021 following her divorce from Simon Konecki. Song itself refers to how she is ready to love again after her divorce and hints at her relationship with new boyfriend, sports agent Rich Paul. ---- Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (This 1961 song by Elvis Presley was on his Blue Hawaii album. Melody was based upon French love song “Plaisir d’amour” that was written in 1784. ==================================
There are also mashups of Angelina with either original artist and/or instrumental band. Some of these are truly incredible. Some examples include following.
---- Ain’t No Sunshine [Angelina was 12 years-old. This is Bill Withers classic 1971 R&B hit. Musicians Hank Roberts (great cello), Brian Wilson (drums), Mike Stark (piano) and Anna Coogan (guitar) originally performed song for singer Canen. Mashup was created using Angelina’s simple cover and band making fantastic composition: czcams.com/video/JyziJiJ1HYg/video.html]
---- Crazy (as 12-year old, Angelina sung song live at 2018 Kongsberg Jazz Festival. Mashup of Festival audio and two rehearsal videos with some of best audio/video editing that you will witness and makes it truly look like rehearsal of this Patsy Cline/Willie Nelson 1961 hit country song. Amazing: czcams.com/video/RI9s_Qp7X_g/video.html)
---- I Will Survive (This 1978 disco hit by Gloria Gaynor is mashed with Angelina’s audio-only track. Whenever 35-year old Gloria is shown, she is singing. Whenever 10-year old Angelina is shown, she is singing. Close eyes and literally tough to tell any difference. Mind-blowing: czcams.com/video/Nryuk21mXkQ/video.html)
---- Easy On Me (Angelina was 15-years old when she released cover video of Adele’s latest hit song from 2021. This mashup combines Angelina’s cover and snipets of Adele’s official video of song plus video-only pieces of 9-year old Angelina performing I Put A Spell On You and few frames of Angelina and her grandmother Mery from studio recording of I'm A Fool To Want You by 11-year old Angelina for her album It’s Magic. Tough to tell difference between Angelina’s and Adele’s voices: czcams.com/video/OXtRa4FlhMM/video.html)
---- Back To Black (mashup remix of 10-year old Angelina’s cover video of Back to Black done with KORK orchestra and Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black music video. Snipets of Amy singing compared with Angelina’s voice makes them seem like duplicates of each other: czcams.com/video/Ly82w_iIrh4/video.html)
---- All Of Me (Angelina was 13-years old. This mashup shows how Angelina pays homage and is true to original song. Combines Angelina’s home video recording with sophisticated music video of John Legend playing piano and singing his smash hit song with violinist Lindsey Stirling playing accompaniment. Mashup creates virtual duet that seems like it is original recording of Angelina singing duet with John Legend: czcams.com/video/i0rSKumJE8s/video.html)
---- Sign Of The Times (mashup of short TikTok cover by 15-year old Angelina with snipets of Harry Styles singing his hit song on his BBC produced TV show Harry Styles At The BBC. Since you only react to live performances, the three of you should react to 8 yr old Angelina performing at Allsang pa Grensen, channeling Dinah Washington’s “What a difference a day makes.”. It would be interesting to hear how Angelina changes her vocal chords and mouth positions to attain these sounds, and how as a vocal coach you would teach a student how to do these same things. Also, Vanessa seems to know very little about jazz singing techniques, so maybe she should study up on that subject.

Sam you opinion is always welcome. One thing about Angelina is the very different way she sings different songs. This song was airy in the beginning, but Suspicious Minds has no airyness in the beginning at all it is full and strong. People say she has a 1000 voices. Even though there may not be that many, I bet there are at least a hundred or more, really different styles and ways of singing. Of course she sounds good to me but it is one of my least favorite songs, because I don't like the big diva songs.I know it is the one all the voice teachers pick, so sad. My favorite right now is between Suspicious Minds and Mount Everest, and Mount Everest was a complete shock because she has never sang anything like that before, and had I heard the song before she sang it I would have said no way Angelina would sing that song, but she cleaned up the language and turned it into a jazz song. Not only that there is a lot of head voice ( I think it is called that) which I have never heard her do before. I hope you hear more of her voices not just diva songs.

I understand that you may have intended an in-depth discussion of vocal technique, but as a singer myself and after decades of performance and study what I saw in your guests were two young vocal coaches trying very, very hard to distinguish themselves as knowledgable to the exclusion of everything else that defines performance. Above all when teaching sometimes it's a good idea to sit back and really listen before you immediately jump in.I would hope as they continue in their professions they will look at the a vocalist and the choices they make less didactically . Of course, all singers have room for improvement, to grow is the life of an artist but how you communicate that growth is paramount as a teacher. Angelina Jordan is an extraordinary young artist and there's no doubt she will continue to improve but pulling apart every single phrase of her performance was exhausting and while you may not have intended it a disservice to the artist.I would consider how you craft a critique like this next time.Ask the question how do I respect the artist while exploring vocal technique?I think just settling back and giving more time to listen and then comment might really help.

Good job all. I'm pretty sure if you were to sit down with Angelina even you (as voice teachers) would be surprised at what a technician of voice she is (especially her own voice). She has been doing this about 10 years already across a number of genres/venues and across a good chunk of her own as-yet incomplete puberty changes. She never seems to shy away from difficult and iconic songs (delivered in difficult ways often with little accompaniment) nor from technically difficult vocal techniques. By way of example, at this performance a sound/recording glitch occurred during what would be the first take so she was asked to perform this song back-to-back with only a minute or two between. This is the second of the two, I believe. In another concert a few weeks later she sang a 15-song set, then two encore pieces, then finished the evening with "I Have Nothing" as the 18th song. Who does that irrespective of being 16yo? She may have taken a few technical/vocal shortcuts but what is remarkable (and noteworthy) is that the emotional payload Angelina delivered was in no way compromised. Isn't that the point? Here is the link: czcams.com/video/p48KewXmiPA/video.html

Please take the time to read the biography I compiled for my all time favorite musical artist.
Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman.
Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on CZcams. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran.
Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage.
    *Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried.
Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience.
In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them.
In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists.
When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”.
Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on CZcams went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old.
In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration.
Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14.
At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs.
At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a CZcams video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances.
When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident.
On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year.
During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each.
In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT.
Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on CZcams. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On CZcams, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video.
The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her.
During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.
In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one.
Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”
In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song.
Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram.
Angelina has concerts scheduled in Norway in July 2022.
Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be.
I encourage others to use this biography to help educate others about the love, empathy, magic and beauty that is Angelina Jordan Astar and her unique music.

---- Angelina had to sing I Have Nothing (Whitney Houston) twice, back-to-back within minutes of each other, because Norwegian TV 2 producers did not like the first recording. What you saw was Angelina's second performance. Few singers could have sung I Have Nothing so well back-to-back
---- Understandable why you reacted to the Norwegian TV 2 published video on CZcams. Unfortunately TV 2 appears to have processed the broadcast master by, I believe, -24 LUFS (sometimes CZcams will also process a video by -13 to -15 LUFS) and also looks to have downgraded the dynamic range a little. However, a UK sound engineer found a better video of this performance and has published it on CZcams. Angelina is even more spectacular: czcams.com/video/LDZ4x0cFJRs/video.html

Sam- I really enjoyed your interest and passion for how the vocal apparatus changes shape to produce different sounds. I think most folks are not very familiar, if at all, with this and you do a good job explaining it. A real value add to the reaction. I also appreciated how you tried to explain to the subset of viewers that may be aspiring singers, how they might try to achieve similar tones or sounds and how you would coach them to do so. Your delivery comes across clearly that you recognize that Angelina is not a regular singer and that advice you mention is meant for viewers trying to do something like what she does, not really for her. You go on to qualify your remarks in recognizing her accolades to date, her relatively large fanbase, and the fact that she was signed to a major record label.
As a bit of constructive advice for Vanessa, I'd suggest that she watch this whole reaction and take notes on how you handled your remarks. I don't think she intended to come across as patronizing, pretentious and full of herself, but that is how her comments landed on the listener. Frankly, it was a bit difficult to listen to and off-putting. Since she was rather critical of Angelina's performance, I pulled a song she performed on youtube (Sirena) to see what she sounded like. Nothing wrong with the song. But she is guilty of some of the same things she criticizes Angelina for. And these things are actually elements that add interest to her performance. Combine this with an index of the public response to the singing (Angelina-733K subscribers on official channel; 203,000+ views of this performance in a month or so, and 10K likes) (Vanessa- 221 subscribers on her channel; 393 views of her song Sirena, 17 likes). Thank you for your enthusiastic reaction to Angelina and I'm looking forward to the next one. Norwegian born Angelina began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Influences include Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Diana Washington, Adele, Frank Sinatra, Amy Winehouse, Lana del Rey, and many more. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became the youngest ever vocalist to win an international Got Talent Show! She also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Angelina sings in English which unbelievably is her third language! She is a true prodigy.
She is now 16, and has recorded a huge library of songs, including covers and several originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, although she has not experienced the life events! She is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices as she can adjust her tone, style, and register for any song or genre. She was signed by Republic Records over a year ago. She is not widely promoted yet, however, as her family has decided to wait until she graduates school, so she has a normal childhood. Here is a link from ages 6 to 16 to all her 200+ chronological performances, including five originals. These encompass additional performances to those on her channels.
    m.czcams.com/play/PL2v8kgVeo4EbYDVnRwObjETfWpXbzbgIO.html
    Why does Angelina sing barefoot?
When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond.
Angelina penetrates hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. I trust this will cause you to embrace her as millions of others have, and that you will continue down the rabbit hole from which you will not want to escape. Peace and love.

Through this reaction, I was unsure about one thing: were you reacting for the enefit of people who want to learn how to sing, or did you want to include those who just want to listen? Because throughout your comments - a total over over thirty minutes for a 4 minute song it didn't appear like you were actually listening to her singing. Instead, you seem to be telling those watching about what could go wrong, what's easier, etc.
Let me be clear: there are several of us listeners who listen to voice teachers because we want to learn about music and appreciate the art. Instead, we got a set of opinions about your teaching methods, very little about the singer or her voice. All of us who are fans - without reservation, I'd say - are aware there are things we sometimes don't see or hear and it's good to learn. We also know that she makes mistakes, or can. Well, I learned nothing from you in the 30+ minutes that would heighten my appreciation of music.

her range so far is a G2/A2 to G5 ) Also Angie had to do it twice in a row, once for a TV
recording & wind & than another one for the fans, which you saw. She also did an Official
cover “I have nothing” by Whitney Houston czcams.com/video/iX0g99jN26U/video.html Looks like they even gave her the rights to her version of the song. Dropped 7-23-22. She’s 16. I love how Angie put in some of her jazzy back phrasing in it also. Different than her live version.
“Suspicious Minds” (Elvis Presley cover) czcams.com/video/RTbKhkceR00/video.html Angie
released this on 6-21-22. Angie is 16 here. Love all of Angie's nods to Elvis, also his wife Priscilla & daughter Lisa Marie & Angie growing up too. (Please react to these also)
“My funny valentine” covered by Ella & Sinatra czcams.com/video/ETGLbsGDAI0/video.html
2-14-22 Angie’s 16. She arranged this standard Jazz version instead of doing the full
version this time. Angie filmed this at the Melrose Gallery and Antiques in West Hollywood CA. It matches the song & her timeless voice.
Angie even opened her 7-7-22 concert with a new cover called “Mount Everest”
czcams.com/video/DYVxnY06BWw/video.html You should watch the original short song & see
what makes what she does even more amazing. Here’s the the original by Labrinth. czcams.com/video/4yPZs81lK3w/video.html
Angie’s 3 concerts are 7-1-22 in Kurbadhagen, 7-7-22 at Kongsberg & 7-10-22 again at Kurbadhagen. Angie had a lot of fun & so did the fans. (Mattias Axelsson, Vidar
Enerud, Kathrine Angeltveit & Trond Andersen are good channels to start with
They have some good recordings & video's).

And they had her sing this most difficult song twice in a row with about A minute and a 1/2, Max pause in between. They said that there was an issue with the camera angles and images that they got on the 1st run through that they wanted to please shoot it...This was the 2nd run through at full blast.

Folks, I think some of you are taking their critique of her performance here personally. First of all, by a lot of your own admittance, this wasn't her best performance. And yes, one performance does not make the artist (although if this was your first exposure to her, you may not be such a fan or so enamored, let's face it). I think the other issue is trying to compare her to Whitney on the reviewers' parts. I personally do not like when people say, if you sing a Whitney song, or a Celine song, or a Mariah song, you will be compared. That's not fair. Every artist is different and why would anyone want to sound like a carbon copy? I think taking a step back, realizing that she is young (most people don't even start their careers until this age) and has room to grow and polish her craft, we can all agree that this was still a great performance in the scheme of things, and yet we know that perhaps under different circumstances, she might have really. nailed it. Also, music and singing is subjective, so critiques can vary greatly. You don't have to agree but then you can choose to skip this video or take it for what it's worth.

Many vocal coaches who know they will have allot to say about any listened to performance play the entire song first, then go back to the sections they would like to comment on and replay as needed to make their comments. I think that technique would suit your in-depth analysis much much better than the very short choppy stopping every few seconds style employed here. [sometimes a particular style of voice is being used to set up the next line. without hearing the song through to start with that can be missed] [another way to hear the song better if you continue the stopping and starting on the first listen is to go back a few seconds each time you stop to comment so the flow is better felt. allot of reactors use that method too] Also listening through first gives time to really focus on the points you would like to make as you go back to those places and make them. I bet doing it that way may even be shorter [though the performance may be seen twice with the comments to be made] I hope you will seriously consider doing your reactions by first the whole song then going back for the commenting. I really think your reactions would be better appreciated and possibly even better though through that way. Just meant to be a constructive comment. I hope you do take it that way.

---- Sam, I have no issues with anyone expressing honest opinion where other opinions are also valid. Yes, omit name calling
---- As one listens to Angelina over years, one can easily hear her voice maturing and gaining strength. This can dramatically be seen in these two covers of My Funny Valentine:
    - As 10-year old. Song is show tune from 1937 Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart musical Babes in Arms. Song became popular jazz standard and has been covered by over 600 artists and is on over 1,300 albums. Angelina sings Ella Fitzgerald lyrical version with extra stanza at beginning that other people leave out: czcams.com/video/sZ25H4a2gPI/video.html
    - As 16-year old. Music video that was shot at antique store in LA and directed by Angelina. Growth and maturity of her voice and techniques is seen as six-year difference between versions show. Her skills are way beyond her age. Angelina sings Frank Sinatra lyrical version in sultry, jazz style: czcams.com/video/ETGLbsGDAI0/video.html
---- There are many situations in Angelina's covers that she is having some issues. Some examples including following:
    - Fly Me To The Moon [as 8-year old, sung on TV show The View US: czcams.com/video/nBGMQ9Kx9iI/video.html. This is one of her most watched videos, yet we have cracking occur at end of song. Angelina still cannot defy physics. On last note her voice cracks in middle. Voice crack typically occurs when laryngeal muscles suddenly stretch, shorten, or tighten open and negatively affect vocal folds. Note at end of song was lower after she had gone higher and gave more volume. This would have required Angelina's vocal folds to be pushed close together and tightened followed by vocal folds quickly pulled apart and loosened. Angelina had brief cracking of her voice meaning this change did not smoothly occur. Any number of things could have caused this to happen including movement of cricothyroid muscle, dehydration (i.e., heat in room from lights and people could have slightly dehydrated her given her very small frame at this age), or even slight fatigue (again not unusual for someone so young and of slight frame]
    - Alan Walker is Heading Home LIVE STREAM concert (Angelina, as 10-year old, was invited to sing Sing Me To Sleep and Faded at worldwide broadcast on December 22, 2016 in Alan Walker's home town of Bergen, Norway. It has been reported that Angelina had cold before/during this concert. One can hear that Angelina is straining and occasionally cracks when singing songs. She probably had bit of sore throat and some dehydration: czcams.com/video/Oei0Nhx_6rw/video.html
[as 11-year old, at 7/21/2017 Prøysen Festival outdoor concert, held in Rudshøgda, Norway, Angelina sung Faded again. You can hear dramatic difference in her voice when not sick 7 months later: czcams.com/video/KYj_YMpiPdA/video.html]
---- There are some key physical attributes that Angelina seems to have in her favor. Angelina's height is at least 5' 10", giving her what appears to be longer neck than average woman, possibly larger larynx than average woman, and wider, squarer face. With larger larynx, Angelina physically should have lower pitch, plus has longer vocal track to produce a 'darker'-sounding voice
---- Angelina used common technique to gain deeper tonal qualities by concentrating her voice towards back of her throat. Plus, she may have developed better control of muscles and vocal techniques for her age
---- We know that Angelina was introduced to jazz at early age through her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani. Angelina was said to love to sing all the time, especially jazz. She also was/is not afraid to tackle many genres of music spanning jazz, R&B, soul, gospel, country, pop, rock, EDM, classical written specifically for her, disco, movie soundtrack, etc and across eras from 1920's to 2020's. There is Norwegian TV interview where Angelina is shown visiting one of her favorite places in Oslo, Norway, Bare Jazz Kafé (Only Jazz Café). Owner noted that Angelina would listen to old classic jazz music. By singing jazz, Angelina learned singing by tackling what many people consider one of hardest music genres (some say even more than classical). Within jazz songs we have changing keys and do not have same chord changes and patterns constantly occurring. Singer must become more of musician and not just anyone who can carry tune. She was exercising her vocal muscles in all kinds of ways, gaining more and more control over them
---- Pitch range is divided into low and high registers:
    - Lower register (One's chest voice. Sound one produces partially vibrates through your upper chest and gives it deeper tone)
    - Higher register (One's head voice. This is sometimes called one's falsetto voice. Sound one produces partially vibrates through one's skull and gives it brighter tone)
Each register is separated by “breaks” that can be single note, or several. Typically, these "bridge" note(s), are most difficult notes in one's range to sing well. Fortunately, one's vocal cords are muscle that can be stretched and strengthened. One can extend one's overall range by stretching one's vocal cords, and, similarly, one can strengthen one's "breaks" via exercising, and training. One can seamlessly sing some of same note(s) in middle of one's range in both registers providing smooth transitions. In my opinion, Angelina’s transitions between registers are exquisite
---- Angelina has fantastic breath control. Hers is very consistent, that is extremely hard for most singers to accomplish
---- Angelina looks to have fantastic control of her vocal muscles and where she generates her sounds from. It appears she can move her larynx to add depth and tones to her sound
---- Angelina has said she does not get nervous when performing. She appears to be cool as cucumber when singing, that allows incredible control over all aspects of her singing whether singing softly a cappella (i.e., beginning of Bohemian Rhapsody) all way up to full belting (i.e., also in Bohemian Rhapsody)
---- For someone so young, Angelina's musicality is off charts. Subtle changes to song. Beautiful, and logical, runs. Emphases on certain vowels and consonants. Change in pronunciations in words that enhances performance. Breaks in how phrase is sung. Etc
---- Many people have speculated that Angelina has had no voice lessons. There is no published proof. One can infer that she may have had some when Angelina participated in Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received piano lessons and possibly some very basic vocal lessons. No attempt was made to change her style as that is not good thing to do at any age unless one is hurting one's voice. In addition to singing and playing piano, Angelina plays violin, guitar, and flute, and also paints
---- When Angelina was 10-years old, she was interviewed on Norwegian TV by Dorthe Skappel where Angelina shows Dorthe some breathing exercises that Angelina does. Where Angelina got these exercises in unknown. But this strongly suggests that Angelina did more than just sing to hone her craft. Totality of what Angelina did (and may now be doing) is not known (click on CC because interview is in Norwegian): czcams.com/video/AlT20-mE6bc/video.html
---- As Angelina grows older, her vocal muscles continue to strengthen. Her techniques further improve as Angelina experiments. One can easily hear changes in her voice by listening to older and newer performances of same song. Hints of child's voice grew to that of young adult and in few years should further grow into mature adult's voice, in my opinion, unparalleled by any other singer today

When I'm bored I like to look for new talented Vocalist Because after watching about 200 videos or so you will come across Person who really blows your mind. One day I was doing that very thing and came across a video of Angelina Jordan whom I've never heard her before sing a song called born to die. At 1st I thought she sounded a little Middle Eastern The tone of her voice was mesmerizing I absolutely loved it So I typed her name in CZcams I saw something recent Bohemian Rhapsody I hit play And couldn't believe what I just heard. The tone of her voice her Vibrato And the choices she makes to tell a story. Then I clicked on a video of her covering a million years ago. That right there some of the best vocals I've ever heard live ever. Then I clicked on a video Of her covering the 1st time ever I saw your face A song I have never liked Just sitting in a room with a guitarist Was one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Her Adele covers I can go on and on. Her original music the song writing ability she has that to. So for me let's take Whitney Houston For example In my opinion one of the best vocalists of all time. And you take every song she's ever sung I probably like 4 of them. Angelina's gotta be coming up to about 200 covers And song she's written herself And I can honestly tell you I love over a 100 of them. No band or vocalist That I've ever heard has ever Created that amount of amasing music. Allso This particular song I have nothing. I believe her live studio version of this song does sound better than Whitney's and in 5 more years she will be the best ever.

Thank you for your insight. As an Angelina addict, my ear misses the depth and richness in her voice when I try to listen to music I actually like. As in all the songs I use to like, make me switch on Angelina. I wouldn't listen to 90% of the songs she sings if someone else is singing. Now to her "mistakes" I find they usually, actually work in the song. As examples in her practice version of "Million Years Ago" she ran out of breath, but in the context of the song, it works. I remember having this happen to me in emotional conversations. So, while a singing "mistake", it really works as a vocal "Ornament". And one that I have seen vocal coaches point out. Here's the link:

Perfectly understandable as the point of view of vocal coaches who tackle the problem of training "normal" students, Sam. I understand very well the point of view on the difficulty of the paths that Angelina takes in her interpretation (s), but probably the problem is right there, not you are facing a normal student. Since the beginning of her artistic career you are facing a little girl who chooses her paths and the way she wants to follow them. She hardly ever chooses the obvious or the natural, her point of view is nothing short of parallel or even divergent from what she chooses to interpret. Most of her covers are "other" and often absolutely unpredictable.
