The quote still works fine given this, but “suffering” isn’t a great translation of “dukkha” from Pali/Sanskrit to English. It’s more along the lines of unsatisfactory or “meh,” not like..active suffering or constant physical or mental torment.

Yup. And unfortunately this episode was basically a dud because of that. Derek is an unconventional guy who definitely needs some social prompts and a bit of breathing room to let his colours shine.
I’m a huge fan of Dr Peterson, but he’s been doing this far too long to still be this bad at being quiet during his interviews.

Yea JBP hasn’t really been the same since coming back from his illness. Too often he’ll start rambling on the same topics he’s covered a million times because it sort of fits what the guest mentioned. Doesn’t make for a good podcast unfortunately because it doesn’t give the guest enough time to shine.
Yeah man, I love JBP but he made this one 90% about himself / his tangents and 10% about Derek and everything he’s known for. Sure, one can argue that it may be helpful to illustrate a certain point by utilizing examples from Derek’s life, but it again boils down to it being about JBP and not D. As a fan of JBP - this one was tough to sit through. Props to D for handling it as well as he did.

My first time when I felt somehow proud of one of us, Gym Rats, was when I saw Derek being quoted in scientific articles and wikipedia. This is the second time, when I see him as a guest of Jordan. You both are doing kinda same thing - answering the questions which everyone else was afraid to ask, and at some level showing us a good route on a map full of dead ends. And you both are just nailing it. Such a surprising but also an inspiring team.
As an American, these two are my favorite Canadians! And although, unexpected, it makes complete sense that they collabed!!

I didn't expect Moreplates to be there but this is a good surprise
The reason Dr.Peterson is so interesting to listen to and why he elevates his guests is atleast partly due to how he ascribes meaning to the actions and goals of people. It is very intriguing to hear it explained why we do what we do.

Well said. It makes me wonder how he works in his clinical role. He does put a lot of words in Derek's mouth here, but I like that he also allows him to explain himself for clarity
I am a huge fan of all things Derek. He is so humble and well spoken. One of Derek’s best qualities is that he is a great listener! Even if he gets interrupted, he immediately stops taking and just listens. It makes me angry when small minded people attack Derek’s credentials or lack thereof. He is the first to admit that he’s not a MD, he has a team of doctors. The best thing to come out of Canada in a long time! 🇨🇦

Watching only the first 24 minutes of this gave me the most grippingly primal lucidity with which to look myself in the eye in the mirror and actually prove to myself that I do more than merely have the capacity to go out into the world confident that not only do I understand myself and who I am well enough to be economically successful, but also that I have no idea where the expansion of my awareness may end. With this I was reminded of the profound joy of being in tune with such a whole sense of my total awareness of myself as could allow me to apply more than just enough wisdom to myself to make wonderful things happen. The feeling of increasing my zeal for self honour and priority awards such blissful security after a long time of feeling far less capable of accounting for myself totally enough to pursue success and experience as freely and broadly as I could conceive of. The playfully balanced feeling of having finally more fully woken up after a few months of having taken no hard look at yourself. That is what this offers in spades.
