Im 45 and have been playing hockey since i was 6, NEVER had a backwards skating lesson like this!!! Hes a Phenomenal teacher
I wish I could like this more than just once! The instructions in this video are exactly what I've been needing! I cannot wait to start practicing all of this! Thank you so much for such an amazing step by step video!!!!
I don't know how you can create a tutorial with instructions clearer than this one. Big thanks!
I have improved my skating dramatically with these videos. Crossovers never quite stuck in my mind until I watched these. Thank you!!!

thank God a GOOD video about backward crossovers. Anyway C-cuts are merely visible during the full backward crossovers performance. it looks like the inside leg does all the job.
Thank you thank you!!
Just what i was looking for!!! Great job with explaining the "baby steps" to learning backwards crossovers. Can't wait to get on the ice to get started!!!!!!
The best crossovers lesson. Thanks a lot. Your hints let me do crossovers at last.
Great skating!
Great Stuff! Thanks Sean!!
Great denonstration. Thanks!
Wow. Such a great Video. Thank you for that! A true Christmas present!
Perfect scate and excellent work
Perfect. Legend.
This is exactly the video I needed to learn the backward crossover. I can't wait to get out on the ice and try this out!
Really thorough, easy to understand explanations
Awesome! Your videos are the best! Learned a lot from you. Thank you!
Youre such a good teacher!
Will try that today!
Thank you, Sean. Repeated this vid at least 20 times. Never seen another backwards crossover video broken down to this extend. Now I can finally do it with the different sounds of the outside and inside edges.
The best backward crossover explanation ever! Thanx!
You're my new online skate coach!
This video is Gold
Best video for backward crossover!
yo , thanks you're the best
This is incredibly useful - decent long video with long demonstrations, showing the whole action multiple times.
Made this so easy to understand, thank you! Great video!
Thank you man
Thanks for making this awesome video! My backward crossovers will be great!!
Thank you!
You are a great hockey coach! Thanks
for teaching me this stuff! Good job 👍
Hi, Other coaches say that turning both shoulders into the direction that you are skating into would give you better stability and control when doing backward crossovers. You mention swinging your arms.
Your video demonstration is awesome. It helps me train as a beginner.
Greetings from Russia Federation. Keep doing really helpful job!)
Great videos and solid communication skills! It has helped me become a better coach. Thanks !
This guy is the dude! I'm trying to learn inline hockey and most of this is totally applicable. Def makes me want to go down the local ice rink tho! Thanks man!
Your videos are very good. They are so professional and interesting... I learned very much from you. Thank You. Greetings from Poland!
Great thank you! Great vid, great video!
brilant, .. really helpfull, the best
Really useful and helpful stuff thanks!
As I develop my backward skating skills, I'll keep coming back to this video to keep me on track with great form. Really, really solid reference video. Thank you!
This is awesome, keep it up.
Thanks teacher! I will practice! Hi from México city!
I want to learn just from watching him. Excellent instructor.
This is the video that taught me how to do backwards crossovers. I watched this when I started playing hockey, and I’m not so good at backwards crossovers, I can go at top speed. Thank you so much.
Thanks for teaching me to skate backwards! Starting to feel second nature.
i LOVE THIS GUY.. HE'S THE BRO.!
Absolutely perfeсt and beautiful staking.. thanks for your videos!
Started playing hockey as an adult and wish I'd found your videos a couple years ago.. watched a ton the last few weeks and already my teammates have been commenting that I am improving. Thanks so much Sean! And I know you've heard it a bunch but your instructional skills are top notch :)

Incredible video
Wherever you are in Canada, an icerink always feels like home.
So true!
As a figure skater, I completely approve of these cross overs. Great focus on the c cut to get power and then the toe kick to get power again. I'm now coaching power skating for youth hockey and this video was helpful for me to see how figure skating cross overs translate to hockey cross overs and communicate with my players better.

Sorry I'm a couple of years late finding this, Sean, but thanks so much! This was hugely helpful!
My goal for this season is to learn to do this. Thank you.
Merci beaucoup pour toutes tes videos l'ami. Tu expliques vraiment bien et le fait de décomposer chaque mouvement en corrigeant les éventuelles mauvais mouvements est vraiment EXCELLENT!! Merci de ton aide encore une fois.
These videos are a life saver! Im still practicing and holding the balance is the most difficult. Seems that I'm having way too much weight on the toes and not the middle part of the foot and therefore i cannot hold the crossover.
Great job!! I was able to do these on inline skates after watching your lesson. Not as good as you but not bad.
best video
I can't afford to pay for the membership, but from the videos posted to youtube I have been able to really help my son perfect his skating technique. This guy is the man when it comes to teaching kids how to skate. He is better than all the camps I put my son in during the summer. I really wished he had a program here in London.
iTrain Hockey has scheduled a camp in London this May 10th 2022 6-9pm! Link: itrainhockey.com/product/london-camp/ 19 spots left. See you on the ice!
Best explanation out there .. with full tips/micro-details. There should a '1000 likes' button for this. Thank you!
You are the best, I love all the videos you made, brand new noobs never skate before, your videos made me the poster girl in my league :)
I started skating a couple years ago and now I’m absolutely obsessed. With the help of your videos I’ve learned backwards crossovers and the feeling is like magic. I simply cannot get enough, I’ll skate for hours straight. Everyone at my tiny little local rink thinks I’m crazy! Thank you so much.
Woohoo!! This is fantastic! Backwards skating can feel so freeing can’t it? :) I’m so happy for you!
@@itrainhockey the way you explained the c cut by showing how your wrist would turn over if you were writing a c on a white board is what did it for me. Sometimes other skaters will ask me how I do it and I can’t explain it because I’m a terrible communicator so I just refer them to this video.
Sean and his fellow team members are 100%+ first class.
This is by far the best video for backwards cross overs, I had learned the wrong way of doing it along time ago, so I had to basically start from scratch, this video really helped me alot, thanks Sean ! .
I used these drills and techniques to teach my 7 year old son how to do backwards crossovers. After about 8 hours of instruction he is now able to do backwards crossovers very very well. In fact, there are kids on his hockey team (major novice) who have been skating for 3-4 years (my son has only been skating for about 11 months), and he is the only one on his team who can really skate backwards well. Sean is a master instructor and if you really want to improve your skating, he is the man to teach you! Thanks Sean!
Fencesitter wow! Thank you so much for this! I’m so happy to know you and your son benefitted from this training video! Keep in touch :)
Thanks you Mr Sean! My coach always forced me to lift up my foot immediately to do crossovers but when I watch your video here, I can get it to the flow and more smooth step by step crossovers than he taught me. Great video!
You got it! Flow, posture, and more training can be found in the members only video membership. Hi, I like your videos. You really work hard on analysing skating. I'm self taught myself and I'd like to share with you what I think the best backward cross over technique is. No one I no does this. As you said your outside skate need to do a third circle more or less. That's the most important bit. However the best what to get power in this situation is to rotate your upper body such that it counter-rotates with the circle performed by the outside skate. Figure skaters do not do this because they are taught to keep the bodies straight and hockey skaters do not do this because they want to keep their stick in the same relative position. I can absolutely guarantee you though that if you are looking towards the outside when you place your outside skate forward and then end up looking backwards when your outside skate has finished its movement then you generate much more power and perform a smaller turning circle. The down side to this is that your head and your stick must move from side to side.
Очень четкая пошаговая инструкция! Респект!
This guy is a beaut
Sean you're an great instructor. Thoroughly clear drills instructions. I started skating again after a 15 years pause and have improved significantly in just two weeks following your instrutions. Keep going your channel is great.
Thank you so much Latif! I’m happy knowing the videos are helping you get back at it! - Sean
What do you do if you have trouble crossing over certain legs because you're not flexible enough to move it to those degrees. How would you work on that where you can actually cross over legs easier
16:00 "That beautiful spot", and all i would think about is am i going to spring my ankle? haha. Seriously, im soaking info from these videos before i head to the rink. Thanks for these videos!!!
Nice video! One question. Your skates look like they are tied loose, whats your recommendation on lacing up?
I'm dizzy... ODR SZN in the T-dot, no snow, great rinks!
What's the name of this rink?
Super, so what skates model do you use?
Poor ice on that rink... Thank you sooo much! Going to destroy the ice on my rink in Syberia the way you've shown.
Gee, this would be really useful if I played hockey
Buy the ITrain video system. He does an AMAZING job!
Hi Anthony, did you buy it? Why would you recommend it to friends? I'm interested but I would appreciate the feedback of an actual client. Cheers!
@@RaphaelKaufmann I did purchase it. I'm 54 years old live in Florida, play hockey 2x a week and absolutely love the format and quality of instruction. One thing is he always points out the mistakes that are common and I have them all. Lol. Best 99$ I have spent in a long time. My grandkids live in Toronto and I would love for them to learn in this format!
Hi Raphael, I purchased it as well to practice myself just for fun and to have some top noch video resources for my son as he develops more and more technical skills. It is an extremely comprehensive library that is still growing. I have not seen anything similar for that price and it is highly valuable for getting detailed break downs of complex drills
@@OptimizeYourHealthPhD thanks for your feedback, I appreciate. I'm 46, live in Strasbourg, France, and started ice hockey only 3 years ago. On my first year, a coach taught adult beginners and I learned a great deal. Since that weekly session was canceled, we have had to rely a bit more on hockey camps and videos on CZcams. I am definitely going to purchase the subscription, which I hope will help me now that I find myself teaching the new adult beginners 😊. Cheers!
@@othmarstehlik5339 I think you're right, I haven't seen anything comparable on the Net. And you seem to both agree that it is good value for money. Can subscribers actually download the videos from the iTrain website?
Thank u from Russia
Its like you have to have good flexibility in your legs to skate.
Have you done a video about conditioning a weak leg? My left is weak and I want to improve that side.
thank god i play forward, i can’t do backward crossovers to save my life 😬 being good at mohawk turns helps tho
Backwards crossovers and coffee ☕️ at Trinity Belwoods Park, Queen Street West, Toronto.
That leg under the chin makes sense to me
i come from shorttrack so pretty much only forward movement, this video is really good. thx
Ни одного слова не поняла, но движения запомнил, теперь их надо как-то применить при катании.
This is my rink!
You’re very lucky. What a beautiful place to skate!
Who in all that is Holy lives across the street from an ODR? I have never been so green with envy in my life...
Bellwoods Ave in Toronto by the look of it. I grew up a few blocks away. A lot of really great ODRs downtown
i live in los angeles. never even seen one in my life
Tell me about it. I wish!!!
Luckily I have a indoor w 2 rinks and there's plenty of public hours. Just skated 2d for 3 hours, 8am - 11, no kids, adults only
Forgive the Yank here but what is an ODR? Thanks in advance.

Awesome video!!
Is there some1 who knows a Awesome (hockey) video for imbalance\ bad balance??
My hips, glutes, belly and whole body is so uneven that i can barely balance when standing straight with my skates,or try new stuff and many other things..

Is that Riverdale or Withrow rink?
i havent skated anywhere in 10 years, ever since i was 8-10 and i remember being able to go at a really high speed without doing all of the c cut, just crossing over seemed to be faster, i dont know if it was cause i was like 45kg at the time so i didnt need to push my whole weight or something maybe, i miss skating
👍
where is this rink located
Really thorough explanation and visual thank you heaps! Such a solid and professional tutorial to help me improve my technique.
Only one criticism... the prove is actually in the "EATING OF" the pudding.
My wife gets cranky if I don't say that expression correctly hehehe :)
