What about surfers (water) and skateboarders or is next episode with surfers und snowboarders?
Might as well compare pole jumpers vs long distance runners. Bodies are shaped differently over years for different movements. Hockey Players and Figure Skaters have only one thing in common and they use different skates to do it.
Thoughts on a Hockey players try Short Track Speed Skating video, would be really interesting to see how skating techniques differ

@@samanthacheng2486 no, skidward's saying beginner hockey players are usually beginner skaters as well, so they're bad at hockey and skating. Since these are professional figure skaters they're obviously great at skating so it looks odd: Skidward's seeing bad hockey playing and out of habit expecting bad skating to match, and their expectations are betrained creating a dissonance.

I absolutely love how the figure skaters where exited to do something they aren't usually allowed to do, like five year olds when you give them "secret" candy (as in don't tell your mom I have you this, she said only one candy but the mom is literally in ear shot).

I thinks in iceskating to learn something new you always have to overcome a fear to do it, to play icehockey you basically have to be able to run on ice and the rest of it is just technique. I think you can fall easier learning figure skating than learning ice hockey ( if you already know how to skate proberly)

@@benm8763 while I understand that and all, and also sense somy0h bravado and bit of toxic masculinity seeping through, do not forget the scheer amount of muscle strength, finesse and grace that figure skaters require in their sport. They are on the ice a short amount of time, and spinning and leaping, using muscle groups not commonly used in hockey. They are very different and also should not really be compared but they both should be respected

For anyone that doesn’t know, the blades are completely different. If you’re used to figure skates or goalie skates with flat blades, regular player hockey skates feel like rocking chairs on your feet. They did an awesome job.
Very true. I've been a goalie for 24 years and the rocking chair of player skates is spot on
Figure skates aren't flat at all. The ball of your foot, the back of your blade, and the sweet spot are all important parts of the blade that form a rocker as well.

Haha the first time I tried hockey skates I felt like I was skating on bananas. I was actually really surprised how easily the figure skaters seemed to adapt to fore/aft instability. It almost made me wonder whether they had experience on hockey skates.
my son had to use rink hockey skates one time and that was the last time. They don't look the skates over and the blades were rounded on either end, and my son kept falling. The same situation of a rocking motion. We gave the skates back and i made noise about giving those skates out to other people that have no idea.

You can really see their experience in figure skating in the way they move their feet alone. They never transfer to their toes, even when doing crossovers

My son started "late" in hockey at the age of 6. My wife enrolled him in figure skating at the same time to help with skating skills. 10 years later the kid is very agile and is often noted for his foot skills and fluid skating style.
Love that just adding a stick can make professionals look like they’ve never skated.

funny story, the philadelphia flyers hired a figure skater in 80's to help the defencemen with their skating. the players laughed and said to the figure skater what she thought she could teach them. the figure skater ( a girl ) asked the coach who their fastest skater was. she then challenged him to a race around the ice. she then beat him skating backwards.
I feel like I've seen a tv show on Netflix with that exact plot in an episode, loved it !

It's interesting that the figure skaters were fearless and the hockey players were a little nervous, I wonder if it's because the hockey players removed their gear so felt vulnerable and the figure skaters were more protected than usual 🤔 😊❤
100%. Plus, they are still playing so if they got hurt, that would be a major issue.
I feel like it’s easier to get hurt learning basics of figure skating vs learning the basics of hockey
@@dione2610 I dunno, hockey was a lot easier for me, by a long shot but I already knew how to play field hockey so maybe that's why but the skating is way easier in hockey for sure.

I think also it was a bit of the equipment was just so much different for them. Ivo kept getting caught on that toe pick for one. It's probably harder to get used to having that then getting used to not having that.

As someone who figure skated for ten years and played hockey for six I really appreciated this video. It shows how surprisingly nimble a hockey player has to be and how even simple maneuvers require proper balance and coordination, not to mention an honest effort.

Lol @ the hockey player explaining crossovers to figure skaters. I've played hockey my whole life and the most impressive thing I've ever seen on the ice was a nationally ranked figure skater doing backwards crossovers. The amount of speed he picked up instantly was mind blowing.

it's amazing to see how natural both the figure skaters and hockey players are on the ice which is already a great skill but still struggle to do the other skills, really makes you realise how much you need to learn to be good at either

They just kept saying it violated the "community guidelines" and that's after I pointed out there are full UFC/MMA fights posted.
Should have had them drop the gloves and fight. That's a core hockey skill.

hockey hall of famer Scott Niedermayer who was known for his smooth powerful skating, took figure skating and power skating when he was a kid.
Jeff Skinner also did figure skating growing up and even won a bronze metal in a Canadian juniors championship

I’m a figure skater, I recently joined the boys hockey team since they convinced me to do so. And it’s so much fun. For me the skating isn’t really the problem, it’s the stick control for me haha

Nichelle was a better coach overall. She broke it down step by step, was patient, and educated them in an easy way whereas the coach left out some important information which he was asked such as keeping your eye on the target when shooting; a minor oversight; however, this was to beginners. He is used to players already having those skills and Nichelle taught the skills. I think she'd probably make a good teaching coach and those are the best ones because they can truly "see" players and will be able to make in-game adjustments advice which can be a difference maker. Dig this vid and the other where they learn figure skating. Jumping the boards was my fave segment.

Body checking is not allowed in women's hockey. And two of them are women.
The Asian girl? Yeah she picked up everything fairly quickly. She has the coordination for it it seems.

I've been a figure skater since I was 3 (18 years of experience now). I've put on hockey skates one singular time in my life and I kept falling forwards and backwards. The blade length is so short in comparison and that is so hard to adjust to!
I just started skating on both figure skates and hockey skates and I agree!! The toe pick on figure can take a little getting used to knowing where to avoid, but otherwise, hockey is WAY harder IMO. I felt it would be best to learn both at the same time instead of having a disadvantage later.
I was shocked that the figure skaters didn’t even say anything about this at first either!
It's so pleasing to really see the figure skaters actually having so fun like when your a lil kid I actually smiled the whole video☺️

The 2 women, give them 6 weeks with puck skills and they could easily compete at a pretty high level. The dude could probably do the same but I don't think he'd take it seriously enough

This is one of the funnest videos I’ve ever seen! Seeing the figure skaters learning hockey was like seeing two siblings who never met before meeting for the first time, seeing the joy in discovering both their similarities and differences and having so much fun while doing so!
