Ohh I didn't notice the Kyoshi warriors were wearing tabi! What a nice detail!! For those who don't know, whenever you are doing traditional Japanese martial arts in a dojo, you typically wear a hakama (the long tied skirt) and tabi. Socks are usually forbidden in the dojo, but white tabi are required.

Another note with the eyes and eye contacts, many people cannot wear eye contacts, they just don't always work well with eyes. So that could be yet another driving factor
Plus, they can cause eye infections if they are filming in dusty or sandy areas. That was the reason why the Targaryens from GoT did not have purple eyes like they were supposed to.
I kinda miss sokkas and katara blue eyes, I really wish they had kept them but if the actors (who are still children) don't feel comfortable with them I understand. It's not the most important thing. Just a bit of a shame.
I think people should watch this open mind and try to not expect that it would be as 'fun' of the kids show we all loved. Watching the kids show now, i just felt that a mature tone is required for the live adaptation to be successful. The mature tone would also set up future possible adaptations like that of kyoshi and korra.
I love the ATLA universe. Its probably one of the universe that we all imagined we could all lived in (because we wanna be benders ourselves). So seeing it in live action with proper cgi and choreography, already a big win.

It’s not a “kids show” as you want to think! If you have learned anything about Hollywood in your life it’s this, most trailers have the best parts in them to lure people like you in! This live action show has already failed! The creators of the avatar universe left & the village elder of kioshi island has went from an elderly man to suki’s mayor mom!
Paul Sun Hyung Lee wasnt named Appa in Kim's Convenience. Appa means father in korean. So it was just him being called dad by his kids.

I read somewhere that the reason the writers left is because they wanted to change a lot of things, whereas Netflix want to wanted to stay as true to the original show as possible. Judging by how well they handled One Piece, and how hard the original Avatar writers dropped the ball on Legend of Korra, I'm gonna side with Netflix on this one. I mean just look at the trailer. It looks amazing!
I wouldn't blame Bryke completely on Korra. Nickelodeon was the biggest reason of how it ended up.

If they wanted to use this as an opportunity to show some of the things they weren't able to in the original Nick series and Netflix wanted to make it 1:1 to avoid controversy

It cracks me up that a super fan put a 1:1 real life to cartoon comparison of Suki's headdress that was totally accurate and then immediately compared it to the "open fan design of the cartoon" by bringing up a picture of the statue of Kioshi, and then shortly later point out a similar statue of Kioshi in the back of the room sporting that exact same open fan headdress of the cartoon. lol

As for the Chinese characters, it is hard to recognize on this resolution especially when its font is uncertain. But base on experience it looks like "學一劍只會一次" which roughly means "Learn one sward move would only know once" That is not making much sense in Chinese. So I'd assume they made a clear English version of the script first, then while translate into a fancy version, the script lost its fluency.
I guess that if they cut the sea snake, it makes sence for Kioshi to possess Aang to finish off the fire benders and put out the burning village 🤔
Also brown eyes were present in all 4 nations, so the eye color thing wasnt as strict as people think it is. So it's a good neutral ground for netflix to just keep everyone's brown eyes imo
Yeah true, I realized that when editing this video. I was trying to find earth kingdomites with green eyes and realized that there are actually only a couple of them in the show, basically just Toph, Bumi, and Kyoshi. Water tribers are almost 100% blue though, and the Firepanese eyes are mostly random but all of the royal family members have the yellowish eyes.

@@BabyLionTurtle sorry I didn't mean for it to be solely directed towards you! I've just seen so much of the fandom use eye color as a strict rule for the four nations. As for the water tribe, I was mandela effecting myself 🤣 for some reason I remembered Hama's eyes as brown but they're kind of a dark grey, almost like an airbender's could be. Oops 😅 but one thing i do love doing is looking at the main amd background character line ups in the art books for both atla and tlok. Really opens your eyes to all of the possible influences they put in each nation.
Also contact lenses and editing eyes are a huge pain in ass. Can't judge em for dropping it.
@@K000H yeah i remember the producers (or whoever) of the Harry Potter movies saying they tried to get Daniel Radcliffe to wear green contacts to be more consistent with the books but they kept making his eyes water. Imagine almost the entire cast of the entire show dealing with contacts 😭 too much for everyone to deal with
Forget the eye color , why are they pale as hell ?! Out of all the characters, Sokka and Katara had the most color….my mouth dropped a little bit. It’s not a big deal over all but it made my heart sink a little bit…..

Very good breakdown of the trailer you made me aware of some thing I did not catch like Kyoshi slamming down all of the Fire Nation Soldiers.
China and Korea also had thrones. The Forbidden City palace (Chinese) definitely has one, with stairs. Korea too. And they are both more noticeable than the Japanese one. I saw them in some movies and it is also on Google images from the real historical sites.
Released on the last day of me being 5, got me through the absolute hell that was my childhood… still gives me hope and joy in life now… and seeing that it’s being released on my 25th birthday… I really hope they do well with this and we see all three seasons told.
King Bumi's casting, costume design and lines are the most important things for me at this point.
This already looks insane as is and this video made me 10x more excited for the Live Action. I really want it to be February 22 already. 🌊🌱🔥🌬❤😍

I do not think Mike and Brian leaving meant automatic failure. They made Korra, after all, and that is pretty bad overall. I say Aeron Ehasz was the reason Avatar TLA was so good. Mike and Brian helped, but I do not think they are the only factor of success.
Korra wasn't bad, maybe to you it was. But it wasn't bad overall. It might have been worse than the original ATLA, but it wasn't bad. 8.4 Rating on IMDB isn't bad. Tho ofcourse 9.3 is better, but again, that doesn't make Korra bad.
LOK had good share of obstacles in making but we gotta agree, Bryke's domain is not writing the scripts. headwriter is an important figure in the show. if somehow they could not get aaron they should've chose someone else. this way the tone of the show would be consistent instead of the story being everywhere.
Korra wasn't great, but i'd say all the negatives had good reasons as their management kept them from producing a proper story.
I first thought it was gonna flop because the original creators left, but having seen so many positives so far out of the Netflix Avatar, i'm starting to wonder if maybe the original creators actually wanted to make this Avatar adaptation something different, while Netflix for once wanted to keep it as close to the original story as possible. Weirdly enough.

yeah, but then it also made it pretty unrealist when Katara and Sokka were able to hide amongst the fire nation for months at a time

Someone did an edit with the blue eyes, and yeaaa I’m glad they didn’t give them contacts. Same with every other character (firebenders, earthbenders, and Airbenders). The clothing they wear and hairstyles is enough for me to know which nation they are from.

The eyes definitely aren't a make or break detail, but I think the choice is a bad one. Yes, these are based on Asian and indigenous cultures in the real world. They are NOT those cultures, however. These are cultures entirely their own in a fictional world.
This is like saying your alien character looks human so they shouldn't have purple or orange eyes. What? That's idiotic and serves no real purpose, imo.
By doing this, they may be tying them down to their real-world counterparts more, but who actually cares? Again, they are NOT those people. They're also taking away a part of their heritage within the context of their own world. And given how these people fiercely identify with their respective homes, families, and cultures, I'd say that was a step back....
I mean, I'm still gonna watch it, lol. It's just my opinion that this choice was maybe not ideal.
16:27 HOLY SHIT. not gonna lie, it just became my favorite part of the teaser too.
In the episode where Suki and Kyoshi Island were first introduced, Sokka DID actually dress up in full Kyoshi attire and make-up as, if I recall correctly, he asked Suki to train him.
I hate Zuko’s scar. The scar is such a major characteristic and plays a big part in the character development. In the OG show the scar is way bigger and nastier, he doesn’t have an eyebrow, his ear is deformed, he can’t cry with his left eye, it affects his facial expressions, it affects his personality and the way he sees himself and how other people judge him… and It’s something he can’t hide it, it’s the symbol of his failures and inner conflicts between good and bad. Like all the shots they focus on one side of his face, to emphasize when Zuko is leaning towards the good or the bad. Also not only the scar helps to develop Zuko’s character, but it helps Ozai’s character to, because the bigger and nastier the scar is, the bigger the punishment was and Ozai becomes way more cold hearted and scarier. So for me to have such a tiny scar, that looks like he burnt himself playing with firecrackers, it’s such a bad move and almost ruins Zuko’s character.
If they are going for a more mature tone for this show, why they down sized the scar and it’s impact, I don’t understand it. And if they are already missing in this major part of the show, it makes me think about, what they are going to miss on smaller details that made the OG show so special, and I’m not just talking about outfits, makeup and CGI, like people are so hyped up for. Like come on, for a show of this magnitude, with that much money involved, good characterization and CGI it’s just an obligation. I’m talking about all the metaphors, subliminal messages, sounds, melodies, symbols and images that helped with world building and specially character development in the OG show. And Zuko’s scar it’s a perfect example of that, also only showing Ozai’s face until Zuko’s sees him again, and the eye color thing, are two other great examples of metaphors and symbols, and this new show it’s already missing on those three things.
My hopes for this show are just getting smaller, but if I watch it with zero expectations, it could surprise me, so let’s see.
I think nothing can be better than the OG show, but nothing can be worse than Shyamalan fumbling shenanigans movie… right? Laughing not to cry 🥲

The chinese characters are “学一剑只有一次”: 学(learn)一(one)剑(sword[can be noun or adjective])只有(there is only)一(one)次(number of times/chance)。Tbh, as a chinese native speaker (although im not as good as other chinese people in chinese for i stopped taking chinese language lessons at sixth grade) the meaning of it is very vague and unclear, Im not sure what is the exact meaning, so I translated each word into the most accurate english word i can think of. I'll leave the interpretation to you guys :)

I think style? The overall/general message of the entire sentence is unclear: The two parts individually are incomplete sentences but they make sense; "learn one sword move", "there is only one chance". It will be easier to understand this by putting it into english: "There is only one chance to learn one sword (when adjective; sword move/style)". Which could be philosophical but otherwise i don't really understand. 😂

I like that they will show the genocide of the Airbenders. I don’t need a shot for shot remake when the original exist in a better medium (animation)

People are dumb to think zuko just stood there and got blasted by fire without at least blocking lol. Only his left eye side was burned so obviously he didn’t just get blasted in the face, he had to have defended in some way for only his left side to have been burned
I always imagined that ozai didn't just blast him from a distance but rather he held his open palm over zukos eye and burned him. Gruesome but possible since the scar is a little similar to a hand print

What made Avatar so special was all the small humorous interludes. It showed Aamg' playfulness innocence.That is part of the charm of the series. If they take that out it wull ruin the dynamic of the the storyline. I really hope they kept the giant Koi Fish and giant Eel.
they could also do what other show adaptations do where they add in backstories earlier than the source to better explain things. Sozin's cast could just be for that.
6:35 in the original cartoon the cabbage merchant had just lost his cabbages seconds before this so he shouldn't be jnside the gate with a new cabbage cart. Either they completely change the cabbage merchants introduction or that isnt the cabbage merchant we see inside.

M. Night, THIS is how you do justice to the ATLA universe.
I think the scene where Zuko is greeted by his men with that empty sword sheath is after he helped Aang escape as the Blue Spirit. He probably lost a sword, and his clothing even looks like his Blue Spirit outfit. If the next shot of Iroh is actually the next shot in that scene, it's probably Iroh looking relived that he managed to return safe, or even relieved and proud that he didn't end up pursuing or capturing the Avatar that time. Zuko even looks a bit thoughtful in that walking scene. Maybe thinking about what Aang said to him in the forest. which would be a great contrast to his men welcoming him back.

The first live avatar live action movie was kinda good to but… in the intro it said book 1 so i think this is book 2 i dont know tho but the characters there like zuko, iroh, and other people dont even look like the characters in the animated series however this one each and every one of these live action characters looks like the ones in the animated series. Azula actress looks awesome, but I always felt she was the older of the bunch. She looked more developed in the face, like she had lost her baby fat. I was thinking they'd cast a teenager, like 15-17. I think her voice actor just sounds so much more mature in age, not soft, and with a womanly edge. I'm afraid this girl might sound completely different, which will probably jar me at first. Azula is one of my all time favorite villains. I'm sure this actress will do great, but she just looks a little too young and pure compared to the animated Azula.

WHY is the live action avatar series rated "kids"? Avatar definitely isn't just a kids show, with some scenes of horror, and also some pretty emotional scenes. It's a show about a war and the avatar trying to save the world. And if this new series is gonna be live action, It might be a bit more violent. They should've rated if for "family" instead. Cuz that sounds ridiculous.

Still not entirely sure if the narrator is monk Gyatso.. The last line he says "always remember who you are." Sounds too prideful for a air nomad to say.. sounds more like something someone from the fire Nation would say. It's what Ursa says to Zuko before leaving him. I don't have a great answer for who I think it may be talking but I'm not convinced it's Gyatso.
The series director confirmed that it is Gyatso speaking. You're right though that we never really saw him speak with so much gravity in his brief cartoon scenes, so it will be interesting to see how they dial down his goofiness in the live-action.
