I don't think Katara's actor did a bad job -- I think she gave the director exactly what they were asking for. All of the dialogue she was given just sucked, and they took away everything interesting from her character. Based on the clips from her past performances, I think she could have nailed the part if they let her.
I agree. Kiawentiio isn't a bad actress, she was just given a poorly written character. And especially in something with a lot of child actors, its important on the directors part to do their job and DIRECT the actors for a better performance. I hope this doesn't affect her career negatively.
She is a bad actor, you can’t teach someone how to cry if the director said cry. That’s why there is a difference between Merly Streep and Angelina Jolie. Are you so ignorant to understand that or a simp. Idk
her performance in anne with an e was great, yes i think its the script and what the director told her to do that in the series
I think if she got to do the beginning argument with Sokka people wouldn’t be so hard on her but she was given so little to do except go “master?”
I don’t think Katara’s actress did a “bad” job but I don’t think she’s S tier, in this show every line she spoke in a monotone voice and in the scene when Katara is supposed to be angry her face doesn’t change to make her look angry and she doesn’t sound angry, I would personally say she’s top of A tier
In my post-viewing rank at the end of the video, I moved her to B tier. I still think she's a better actress than they let her be in season 1 though, so hope she delivers in the rest of the show

I am German so we got the luxury of the OG voice actors for the voiceover and that honestly made up so much in terms of nostalgia.
A lot of these actors aren’t bad actors rather the script for the show is bad, the main characters seem more like there characters irl then in the show, the writers and directors for sure held them back which sucks but the show isn’t bad and im absolutely PRAYING they do them justice in season 2

Holy crap the actress who plays Ty-Lee is like, bang on, how did they manage to do her so dirty in the show??. Hopefully shes able to be a lot more bubbly in Season 2
and they let her use her gymnastics skills too!
That updated ranking is pretty spot on, and I agree with most of them, except for 2 key characters... Iroh in B tier and Sozin in C tier. Personally I'd move them up at least 1 tier higher. Sozin was pretty intimidating. And my gods... Iroh... gotta love him. His scenes with Zuko were among the best in the series, especially when "Leaves From the Vine" started playing in the background. If that doesn't get you to tearbend, I don't know what will. T_T

Netflix's Iroh felt the most like someone playing a character imo. Like his cadence and actions were a bit distracting, but he was starting to grow on me.
@@BabyLionTurtlewhy does it feel like Iroh doesn't act "wise" enough in the live action, if that makes any sense? Like he's not relaxed enough. Someone should give Paul some jasmine tea lol
@@BeesRecipes I agree. It always felt like Mako's (and then Greg Baldwin's) Iroh spoke deliberately and with very thoughtful, well considered words. Paul's Iroh, though, speaks so quickly that it makes a tangible difference in how I perceive his character.
Finally an objective feedback and one that is closest to mine too. I loved your insights on the video from yrs ago and watching this after a month the live action was premiered you were somehow spot on. I love this series and I think they did great with the casting and I cant wait to see more of them in the next seasons

None of my issues with the live action were based on the acting, or even the casting. There were things I liked that the creators added, but many things I thought went wrong and didn't 'honor' the original.

Suki's actress being part polish is surprising but actually understandable, i really think the features suit the character since Suki looked more 'european' to me than other characters aswell.
the appa momo voice actor really wasn’t doing it for me. Sometimes appa just sounded like a throat grunt, and other times they played a literal chimp/monkey free sample sound for momo. I wish they got Baker back for this one.
Really? I didn't really noticed anything with them which, for me, meant that it didn't sound off in any way. Hence the post-show S tier
@@BabyLionTurtle actually I take momo back, I only really didn’t like one moment. In the kyoshi episode fight when momo is throwing rocks at the intruders, they literally just use a monkey sound for him. For appa, I can hear the person doing a “moooooooo” but more coming deep within their chest, with an under layer of a growl, which the growl actually sounds really great… the “moooo” not so much. Omg I just rewatched when appa was dropping off Aang on the firenation ship in the 8th episode and he literally goes “MmmmmmmMm” like girlllll what is this
If you watch behind the scenes w him he brought so much nuance to the animals. That kind of diligence is dying
Actually, I loved what the actress who played Yue did with her role. It was different from the animated series, but in my opinion, the changes elevated the character.

I think the actors are good, but they DONT look like their role. Liek you cant say truthfully that Ian Cosley looks like Sokka.
That's why Sokka was B tier. Now Ozai and Aang, though? They literally couldn't look more spot on

Looking at the animated series again after finishing the live-action show, I actually think that the actor for Sokka was a pretty good fit. Sokka's face from the animated series doesn't translate into actual facial features that easily, but I think especially the prominent jaw line was quite fitting for the role.
i’d really like to point out a specific part of this video. 5:43 because people were really trying to deny kiawentiio her heritage because she isn’t as dark as a ficitional indigenous character who doesn’t even have any actual indigenous features (because its a cartoon). just ridiculous. but speaking of kiawentiio, her range shows so much in her previous projects.. why did they water that down ???
Her acting in Beans is really good and shows a lot of emotions in there especially in that one scene where she throws rocks at the police and shouts angrily at them for not helping her family. IDK why the writers made her act like that when she can pull off Katara's personality the same in the OG.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I don’t think Iroh’s casting is very good, particularly because he isn’t old enough. He doesn’t look elderly at all. He also doesn’t have even close to Iroh’s original voice, which is very calm and nonchalant.

Would love for you to address the fact that we are mildly upset because of colorism. People my skin tone or darker should not have to hear “it would be too distracting” “we don’t want to have to figure out special lighting for dark scenes” “you just don’t look like a star” it’s the same thing they did with America Chavez in Strange 2 or Sunspot in New Mutants. Enough is enough and if for example we got a lighter Storm in X-men there’d be pushback. Darker actors need to be given opportunities like this otherwise people lighter than me will always get picked. It’s why I hate it when people say I should be happy Zendaya gets so much work. No, I’ll be happy for her and still want more for the rest of us as well.

Okay, I dont mean to assume, but from having looked at your videos you seem to be Black?. I think representation for all ethnicities and colours is important, but Katara/Sokka aren't black and i think its a little shitty for some twitter users to be almost appropriating them (for a lack of a better word) to their own ethnicites. Maybe im wrong but ive noticed that (especially in American Media) Non-White = Black almost always. I do think its really wrong for so many people online (Twitter Mostly) to be demanding that Sokka/Katara be "dark skin" representation when the Actors themselves are the right ethnicity to be playing the roles (Even if there are a few questions around Sokkas Actor).
@@klaidas7409 nobody said the water tribe should be black. people say they should be the same shade they are in the show, because such people do exist. there are siberians, aleut, and inuit (all arctic people) who are the color that water tribe members are, but that's not who was cast. netflix has a tendency to cast lighter-skinned people of color at any opportunity they can, regardless of race. that's colorism.

everyone is nicely cast, but mei and azula is f tier. You cant put heavyweight boxer/weightlifter bodybuild as southeast asiano yop 1 martial artist, and an deffo unathletic one as extremely athletic character.
Agreed and I understand that this is not to body shame. I wish suki played azula she has the look and as a kyoshi warrior she did great but she would have been a better azula

I really don't like what they did with Hakoda's character in the live action at all. In regards to the casting and everyone's acting I thought the casting was almost perfect and the acting was fine, would've been better if they had a better script.

I think the overall cast was so good, I really hope they listen to constructive criticism instead of the hate and lead the actors and the writing into the right direction. They have so much potential to make season 2 so good!

Omg. Suki and her mom are such badasses in the show and played by GORGEOUS ladies!!! The storyline was cheated not having Sokka dress as a Kyoshi warrior but making Aang go into the avatar state AS Kyoshi just like he did as Roku in the show was fucken smart of them they know we Stan. So fucken badass. The lesbians were living.
