Is there a reason you drew all the shapes by hand one by one as opposed to drawing just one and then using some distortion effects? Fucking great work as always man, love your stuff.
Looks better ;)
Thanks so much! I tried a bunch of different ways to do that with a turbulent displace but I just couldn't get and shapes that look believable hand drawn, the just looked a little too procedural. :)
Yup, If there was an easier way, I'd jump on it without hesitation.
@@BenMarriott Gotcha, that attention to detail is what separates you from the pack
Thanks man! Hopefully Adobe add a "just make this shit look hand-drawn" effect soon :D
I still can't believe I'm not paying to see these videos!
You're awesome!
Haha, thanks so much for watching! That's payment enough for me :D
shh no don't give him ideas im a student I cant afford people to start charging im already paying tuition to not get taught
Dude. Skilled as you are with After Effects, you're even better at making tutorials. There's no bloat, you're quick, to the point, and you explain it so that a beginner can grasp the process without having to repeatedly rewind and rewatch. Well done.
Haha thank you so much for the generous compliments, David! I'm flattered! Really appreciate the awesome support :)
I watched this one last year and came back to watch it again. Just a ton of appreciation after coming back with a bit more experience. This is so good! Thank you, Ben!
You’re so rad dude. These videos have upped my skills in AE ten fold already!
Thank you. 👏
You give me more, than my university gave me in 4 years.
not only u lol
That was an amazing Transition effect! Thank you for being awesome and sharing!
This is exactly what I was looking for, you’re an absolute legend, cheers!
Thanks so much! Really glad you found it useful :D
God bless you, Ben. Thank you for existing, and posting.
It really is the SUPER SIMPLE things like a sequence layers button that self-taught folks like myself miss out on! THANKS
Thank you for sharing this! It's one of the first things I learnt on After Effects and I love your channel and videos, this was great to use!
wow this is my new favorite after effects channel. I really appreciate your focus on more hand drawn/ 2d styles of motion which I’ve been looking to learn more about! keep it up
Thank you so much! That's so awesome of you to say. :D I really love hand drawn & 2D animation so I'm going to focus on that for as long as I can.
Really cool and fun effect.
You're awesome. I love your tutorials!
I'm binge watching your tutorials and I think I fell in love
I haven'y really focused on properly learning the blending modes (just usually use overlay, screen, colour burn, subtract or multiplying if none of them are what I'm looking for I'll just randomly be clicking around) before this I didn't even know stencil alpha existed and now I feel like just learning all the blend modes
Great tutorials, as ever. More power to your elbow, kind sir.
Ben, you’re such a genuinely nice guy, plus your AE skills are top notch. Thanks for all the tuts, subscribed 🙌🏻
Thank you so much, the pleasure is all mine :)
I just tryed this for myself and it came out pretty trippy! thanks for the tutorial!

Dude you are the best AE/animation channel I've come across by far. All your tutes are on cool effects I would actually use, not too complicated and presented well.
Thanks so much! That's amazing to hear. :D So glad you find them useful :D
This is soo helpful!!! Thank you!!!!
Mate, you’re the best! Learn a lot from your vids! Keep it up!!
Thank you so much for watching :D I really appreciate the support :)
Thank you so much for having the box that shows your keys and speaking clearly ;--; as a visual person , other tutorials are hard to fallow when people dont speak up and are just like “bam- there it is”
You're a weapon, Ben! Thank you for being such a legend!
Thanks man, the pleasure is all mine :)

Great tut! I'm not really interested in creating a transition effect like that but I like watching your tuts because I always learn some new techniques that I can apply elsewhere.
Thanks so much! That's amazing, that's my goal with all of these videos. Glad you found it useful :D
THIS IS SUCH AN AWESOME TUTORIAL I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
Thanks OTIS :D
bro im watching after 5 years and what I can say is you are f*** genius. Thanks for content that you have shared
Great tutorial as always! Each time l learn something and it opens my mind for imagining some animations! I noticed that your pre visualisation are quite smooth! It would be nice to have a video about your setup and your pc specs! So important and on my pc it’s not that smooth!
SOOO cooool . thanky
So beautiful, so warm, so useful)))
Thursday is officially my favourite day now all because of you
Thank youuu!
Simple and inspiring, great as always!
Thank you so much!
I've been using Afx since CS2 and ever since I discovered your channel I keep learning new things I didn't know. For example the "preserve underlying transparency" option at 7:22. Mindblown, I've been using track mattes, modes and 'set matte' effect all this time. Love your work! you got a new sub
Great to hear! Thanks so much for subscribing! :)
Pro tip! I like to add a marker on the spot where the transition should be, that way it’s easier to cover the cut when you bring it into another comp. It also saves the marker info if you were to render it out (with alpha) for use in Premiere.
brilliant!! love your tutorias man!
Thanks so much for watching Bruno!
Thanks for the lessons! Your work inspires))) Today I made a cool "explosion" on your video!!
this is simply genius
Thank you 🙏
completely hooked to your channel.
THANK YOU
WOW, new subs. Great content.
Dude you are very clever, I'm watching just to learn how you play with Ae. Nice one!
Thanks . You're awesome
Thanks a lot!! :D
This is really cool. I love these videos where you show us every step of the process :) you should do more videos like these
Thanks so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment :D I'll definitely have more like this in the future, with a few curve-balls every now and then :P
@@BenMarriott yay :)
Bro this should have like a million views, amazing quality!
Thanks so much! Thanks for watching :D
you are the best
With that technique. I think we could make a grime effect inside AE! Thank you so much man! Love your tuts! Subbed.
Super tutorial as always! I actually wanted to make a bunch of transitions like this for a 90s themed video series!
Thanks so much! :D I'd love to see them :D

Hey Ben just wanted to thank you, ended up using this as the opener for my new cartoon THE MIGHTY CHONDRIA!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Hi Ben, LOVE your videos! You inspire me to continue learning animation even tho I'm a complete nooby and I'm doing it just for fun! Thank you so much! May I ask you to show us how to animate a growing and blooming 2D flower? Thank you!

Thanks so much for watching :D
Awesome, man, I need more tutorials of how to simulate traditional animation like this.
Thanks so much! I spend 80% of my time in After Effects trying to make is look like is wasn't animated in there, haha
4.6k followers but you deserve more, keep it up! :)
Thanks so much Mr. Freeman! I really appreciate it :D
Great techniques. Simple yet brilliant!

Thanks so much man! I'm so glad you found it useful. I'm glad there's still room in this world for an old-fashioned wipe.
@@BenMarriott Hahahahah yep! You bet!

4 and 3 and 2 and wuh-1 !! totally heard Broad City theme while watching this!
Bruh I loved the idea and the way you explained, I feel so inspired. Guess I know now what I'm gonna do for my final task on university xD
Thank you, Ben. You are the most amazing teacher and CZcamsr. I really wish I can have some income soon so I can buy all of your courses..... but for now, I'm learning every day with your tutorials.
Thank you so much for the awesome support and comment, Lana :)
Looks great :)
We are hoping for more tutorials, it would be great. Thank you
Thank you! Awesome more tutorials coming in :D
I saw Artlist ad on Instagram with exact patterns and animations 😄 You are big big inspiration Ben! Cheers! ❤️
Haha, I've seen that too! But that's ok, the project files are for everyone. Thanks so much for your support :)
Quick correction for someone who may be having problems with the alpha on the last shape at 5:16, though he said Stencil Alpha he actually chose *Silhouette Alpha* which is the one you should be using as well! A small slip in an otherwise amazing tut as always Ben :)
I love how you manage to make things like these so easy to follow and actually presents the step in a fast, straight to the point manner that doesn't waste anyone's time! That and the awesome attention to detail really sets you apart from other content creators (also not using dubstep/trap for every other intro).
Thank you again!
Oh man! Thanks so much for pointing that out :D I really appreciate it.
That's so awesome of you to say. So glad you're finding the videos useful
This is soo awesome, I will make and use a similar one in my CZcams videos..
Super cool effect..👌😊❤️❤️
omg thanks !!
I liked this before even watching because i knew it would be top notch.
same here
Thanks so much!! :D but don't say that, It'll make lazy, haha
Thanks dude! :D
Great job! Love the channel... maybe a video on your character design process, and how you go about rigging
Thanks so much! :D Amazing suggestion :)
Cool ty

Thank you a lot for making this wonderful video. I am really want to follow your tutorial. Sadly my MacBook is too old to do this work. However I am looking forward to watch your next video. 🤗😃

Great tutorial, thanks :)
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it :D
Hi Ben! Thank you for this video! so helpful! what keyboard visualizer are you using?
Your tutorials are just the best! Thank you so much for your work. And if you ever consider a Patreon, I'd gladly pay for it.
Thanks so much Renan! That's so awesome of you to say.
So helpful!!!
Cheers mate! So glad you're enjoying them :D
Hello! Just one thing! The part where you say "stencil alpha" at 5:17 is actually "silhouette alpha"! It took me forever to find my mistake! haha! THANKS FOR THE AWESOME TUTORIAL! I AM LEARNING SO MUCH!!!
problem im having with silhouette alpha is that i cant put anything underneath to be revealed
:(
@@westwardwiniows9200 as he shows in the video, drag your transition comp on top of the point where two scenes should transition.
You're right that Silhouette Alpha won't allow you to reveal something below it... Unless it's in a precomp as described.
Legend.. I'd never draw that but now I definitely would
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed it
Thank you!!
Thanks so much for watching :D
you should make a tutorial on how you make those smooth keyframes like at 8:19 the AEP thingy,i've saw many animations but none this smooth.Anyways keep it up man you're making a revolution and when that will happend i will be proud to say that i was there when you still had 4K subs. Really, you inspire me every time you upload, good damn job.
Wow, thanks so much for such an encouraging comment. I really appreciate it. :D That animation was done with 3 key frames on the position, 1. off screen - no easing, 2. on screen (top of jump) loads of easing, 3. off screen - no easing. + a bit of rotation (no easing) Getting smooth motion is a lot about trying different easing values and jumping the graph editor to get it buttery smooth. I'd like to cover it in a tutorial soon :)
@@BenMarriott So it's all about trying different things!.Thank you so much,i hope you will do cover a keyframe tutorial it might even blow up!
Have a great day and see you next week man!💪🏼
I just wasted 3 days hand drawing a similar effect when I could have done this dang it 😂 imma do this NOW.
