Hi Matt. Great review. Thank you.
I got my unit after like 4-5 weeks. It came without a remote so when I got the chance I ordered one from Amazon. It is a mind blowing device mostly thanks to the Android choice as an OS. As an experiment, I installed a lot of apps that do not normally belong to a streamer (Whatsapp, Angry Birds 2, Chrome, Flipboard etc). I also managed to install CZcams Music, which is vital for me as I am a YT! user. I installed a 512 GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus in it and copied over my collection of music. The internal player in my opinion beats any other connection in terms of sound quality. It was a jaw drop for me. So far I am very happy with it.
The big touch screen, the brilliant mobile app makes this device a game changer in the streamer world. No wonder why this model is so popular. More big screen, touch based will follow in the coming months/years due to the success of this one.
As for negatives, I would mention the lack of the remote as default option in the package as you also mentioned, and also I would love to have a physical mute button near the volume rocker.

Great video, once again! Currenlty using a WiiM Pro into a Schiit Audio Modi 3E DAC into an Emotiva TA-100 integrated as a pre-am and A2 external amp, powering Wharfedale Diamond 12.0, and using an Emotiva SE-8 sub. I really am at a point where I love and enjoy my system sooooo much. But this thing........................LOOKS AMAZING!!!! In the future, I was planning on upgrading my DAC to a Geshelli Labs J2 (AKM), however, hearing how amazing the DAC in this unit is and how great the streaming side is, I can save me $300 and just get this. Question...a couple actually. I have a lot of music stored on an external hard drive. Will the Eversolo read flac, wav, mp3 files from a hard drive via the USB port? Or will I have to use an SD card? Also, I like surround 5.1 sound. Will I (can I) hook the Eversolo to a 5.1 receiver or amp and enjoy the surround sound, or am I limited to just a 2 speaker set up (left and right)?

Quick question...when DMP-A6 is connected to an external DAC, is each music file (flac) served up to the DAC in its raw format? ie. 24bit 96Hz Currently I have all my music library sitting on a drive on my laptop and I usually connect via usb directly to the DAC; but for reasons unknown all music files get down-sampled to 16bit 44Hz. I have plenty of higher res files but never got to hear them in their native format. So if I install an SSD of my complete library into the DMP-A6, will the DMP-A6 send the proper signal/resolution to the DAC? I don't want any down-sampling or up-sampling.

It does seem to be remarkably good value for money. I prefer to use my own DACs with my streamers, but the DAC section on this seems really rather good, and as an all in one solution, it has a lot going for it.
Personally, I find eArc a pain in the butt, especially in complex AV systems, but bidirectional HDMI and the ability to view the screen on a TV would indeed be helpful.
Can you cast from the device to a smart TV or just cast to the device from a phone or tablet ? Also, can you add apps to the device from Play Store as it runs Android ?
    Enjoyed the review. Thanks.

    • @ericjohnson829
      @ericjohnson829 Před 11 měsíci +2

The DMP-A6 can only cast to your phone or tablet through the control app. You can in turn mirror or send what's on your phone or tablet to your smart tv if it has Airplay or similar capabilities, but I didn't find that incredibly useful. It introduced additional latency to the visuals (such as the vu meters) and the album art wasn't really of high enough resolution to look that great on screen to me.

WiiM Mini and Pro offer bit perfect digital output up to 24 bit 192 and support Qobuz and airplay but not Apple music natively.
They do have pretty naff internal DACs, but they are low priced and low power draw.
I have all my music stored on a NAS and the DNLA playback is flawless.
WiFi connection has been solid on the Mini and the pro has wired ethernet.
The Pro has had some teething problems but recent updates seem to have largely banished all but the awkward menu interface when locating the music folder on my NAS.
The digital pre EQ negatively affects sound quality even on the digital output, but not when set flat or disabled.
My listening experience has been backed up by measurements by the Audio Science Review community, as they found a lot of added distortion when the EQ was boosted significantly, but otherwise the S/PDIF output truly is bit perfect.

I would like a *streamer* - without any internal DAC. Having a DAC in the streamer is not great - it is like having a DAC in a CD player. It is not likely to be as good as standalone DACs, and you have to pay for something that you won't use. If you own a good DAC, then you can use it for both the streamer and to play CDs.
I have a make or break streaming service - I have listened to Radio Paradise for nearly 2 decades, and as far as I know, BlueOS is the only one that has this. I can sign into my RP account and this lets me listen to My Favorites - which I have set for any song I have rated 7 up to 10; and this list is thousands of songs.
Ideally, a perfect streamer for me, would include an app for Band Camp. As far as I know - nothing included this?
A weakness of the BlueOS is in the Library (all the local files) you cannot randomize the files. And Playlists within the local files doesn't seem to be there?
What is the power supply in the Eversolo?

    • @rosswarren436
      @rosswarren436 Před 11 měsíci +4

I agree with you having a DAC built-in is somewhat wasteful of money. Why pay for something you'll never use or will stop using a few months after you buy the streamer as you get a better external DAC. I'll never use the balanced outputs either. I think they are overrated and "oversold" unless you are doing a 30-foot cable run and need to minimize any electrical noise such a long run might pick up. However, I can see many people, especially newbies gravitating towards a "one box solution" like this and calling it a day.
You'd think that sans-DAC and associated circuitry, they might could offer a very similar touch-screen streamer in the $500 range. That would be more tempting.

You can bypass the DAC using the digital outs. I think for $850 as a streamer only is already a very good price, personally I don’t feel like the DAC is wasted at this price. The DAC is like a bonus or for new people starting up but doesn’t mean we veterans can’t enjoy the excellent streaming section, it’s a win-win unless it costs $4k. And Radio Paradise comes preinstalled.

I am using a PS Audio Stellar Gaincell DAC/Preamp I picked up on the used market, with a vintage 1970 Sansui 4000 receiver. The PS Audio and WiiM Mini combo blew me away, so I bought the WiiM Pro for the Digital Coax output vs the Optical out on the WiiM Mini...
The WiiM has Amazon native, and Qobuz, my two streaming services. The clincher with the WiiM, is the 10 band graphic equalizer. The EQ function simply takes the inexpensive WiiM products to heights that most streamers cannot touch, using an external DAC, at any price.
I paid just a few dollars more for the WiiM/PS Audio combo, roughly $950 all in, and the sound is incredible through my old 1970 Sansui 4000 out to a pair of Zu DW6 speakers with the Supreme upgrade. A match made in audio heaven.

If there is a difference in the ones and zeros, then either the transmission or receiving method is not within spec.
In short, if both the streamer and DAC have implemented the different connections properly, there will be no difference.
When it comes to decoding the data and the analogue stage after, then there can be a measurable difference.

Some descriptions of the sound has failed to state in detail. There’s no refinement as to how people are assuming after watching/reading reviews. I’ve seen this from dealers and end users. Feedback from them is there’s hype. Why would dealers say that? But of course, you cannot doubt it’s high in value.

Looks good and a nice review. Thanks! At ~$750 (when you can actually find one as you noted) do you have any qualms about it being based on Android, a "flavor" that is already two years old? Using Android has benefits such as offloading the development of apps to 3rd parties themselves such as Tidal or Apple Music. But does that mean the lifecycle of this device is going to be limited to about 3 to 5 years max before those apps no longer work and the O/S or hardware won't support newer versions? I know many would argue that digital streaming is so new, getting 4 years out of a device is "enough". Maybe so for a $150 WiiM Pro, but for a $750 device, I'm not so sure, especially one that will have zero resale value once it is long in the tooth. Nothing is guaranteed for any device. I guess we have to face that. Any thoughts?

Yeah and its a fair point, I think when you buy something like this it will be; profit now but dont go down with the ship. Enjoy what it delivers today but dont expect this to be a lifetime piece or anything of the sort. @@ericjohnson829 think it was about $750 when it was first being talked about. Demand has probably given them a reason to bump it up and/or the currency exchange rate changed.
Just checked...nothing on Amazon came up at all. Summit Hi Fi has it for $899, making it price comparable to the limited edition Node X ($999).
With it pushing the $900 price, that makes me even more concerned that it becomes an expensive paperweight within 3 years when the Android 11 based O/S won't support the streaming apps that will be current at that time.
I mean, my ballpark for something I can only get 3 to 5 years use out of is about $500. If more than that, I'm going to be looking at something else, like maybe the new lower cost streamers by NAD and Cambridge.

The streamer is great for the money, but needs work with its app. Here's a few problems with the app: 1) The options and configuration ability differs between the default app view and the casting view. It's frustrating. 2) The info you can view through the Qobuz app differs between the default app view and the casting view. For example, if I look at new releases using the default app it will not show me the artist, but only the album name. I can see using the cast feature, though. Very frustrating. 3) There's no home button using the default app. You can be 6 or 7 pages deep into a music app and you need to keep hitting the back button to get home. Again, frustrating. 4) The displayed bitrate isn't representative of what you are listening to. You can be streaming a 24/96 song and the Eversolo app may say it's 16/44. Again, frustrating. These are all things Eversolo needs to work on for its customers to keep them happy and if they want to be considered a giant killer.
