  • This is probably the cheapest place I'll ever stay in... $$$
    I only paid 1,696 JPY which roughly coverts to $13 USD, how crazy is that?!

      Hi, Im from germany. I really like your videos. Japan seems to be really expensive and because of that I'm not sure how to have a good time in japan without overpaying. Can you make a guide for tourist and their first time travelling japan?
      How much time and money do i need to invest and is there a way not only to see all the modern towns people but also a normal family life in japan? You already gave me a lot of good locations to visit. Last year the restaurant on the river was quit cool.
      Anyway good work with your video. I'm looking forward to see more.

    A clean personal bed space and handy facilities, you really can't complain at that for $13 (£10)!

  • @WatashiWannabe
    @WatashiWannabe Před rokem +4

    Definitely looks like a place I'd stay and enjoy. Only problem is...if the bed isn't super-comfy, I tend to snore fairly loudly (partly a product of my weight, which I'm actively working on), and I'm rather certain I'd have a crowd of angry people looking at me with red, tired eyes when I wake up the next morning.

    I often need a rather private space to decompress after a day so while this wouldn't be an option I'd jump at, the general quality of the place, combined with the price, make this a compelling option to consider for sure!

    • @Chuck8541
      @Chuck8541 Před rokem +1

      Yeah, for budget travel, it's hard to beat hostels.
      On the other side of the coin, for the low end hotels like the APA chain, they seem like barely a step up from hostels. They have privacy, but seem more cramped somehow! haha

    For $13 in that location and in such a good state, I would have definitely stayed there, or somewhere like that when I was much younger and on a tight budget. These days I much prefer my own private space and can afford to stay in a hotel. Not sure if it's still there but my last trip a friend recommended a hotel in Shibuya that did weird pillow fillings and you could choose what kind you wanted. I can't remember the name but it was just by the east side of a train line off a small street. I stayed there for only 1 night and never found the choose-your-own-pillow service, but they gave you the choice of a more traditional Japanese breakfast (and one of the only hotels to do so) which I really liked. If you can find any similarly quirky places to stay, that would be interesting.
    The other place I stayed was in Aomori, right near the Nebuta Museum in a tiny hotel that looked nothing like the picture on the booking site. It had no hot water so you had to get a thermos from reception which they filled from a giant boiling pot in the kitchen. No staff spoke any English, nothing nearby was open after 8pm, and I was frisked by a policeman when I was out looking for something (anything) to eat because apparently there was a curfew due to Mr. Stabby McStabberson reports in the area. But honestly, Aomori was my favourite part of my entire trip.

    • @seerasan
      @seerasan  Před rokem +2

      Location was sooo good! If I had more of a budget, I would definitely prefer to stay in my own space too (I probably just travel too much so I can't afford nice places each time haha)
      That pillow system sounds interesting! I don't think I would survive with that Aomori hotel, way too cold carrying water from a thermos to bathe in, how crazy!!
      I'll keep on the look out for more unique stays (I have 2 more videos I'm editing for hotels that'll be out soon!)

    Wow! You are just shooting out content after content lately! And just as always, very chill and super informative. Keep up the great work!
    I've stayed at two hostels in Japan (Khaosan Annex in Asakusa - Which is now closed down and another one took over and then K's House in Fujikawaguchiko) and both of them was very clean, friendly staff, some good beds, some very nice public rooms and especially Khaosan had some great fun parties or activities. So I would probably stay there as well.
    The only issue I had with a 6 people dorm is that there was a japanese man in one of the other rooms who were snoring like a freakin' chainsaw. xD

      They're honestly such a reasonable option! I've used them my entire time living here in Japan, especially for solo travel & probably stayed at least 20!
      Capsule hotels are good options too!

    • @Chuck8541
      @Chuck8541 Před rokem

      I mainly stay in hostel dorms during long term travel. They're really fun, and as an introvert, fairly easy to control interaction. But sometimes it might be a party-party hostel, where it's a constant frat party, so if it gets old, I'll upgrade to a private room...and when I get REALLY tired of travel life, it's time to go fancy and splurge on a hotel for a week or so. At hotels though, I tend to see nobody, and meet nobody...which also gets old when traveling alone. So the cycle starts again! haha

    Looks like the one in Hatchobori is closed but there's there's two other locations in Tokyo (Shibuya and one near the Sumida River) that are still opened. I stayed at the one in Shibuya before the pandemic and that one had a pretty chill vibe though I opted for one of those bunk bed rooms for me and a friend which felt like two coffins stacked on top of each other. It felt like a capsule but in its own little private room that's as big as the beds themselves. Probably should have just done what you did and done the dorm style beds.

    • @seerasan
      @seerasan  Před rokem

      Ah thank you for looking into that! I googled while editing and saw it closed down (even though when recording I remember seeing the Shibuya one), but should've look more properly!
      I generally prefer the capsule style rooms, but for that cheap price I couldn't resist not trying the dorm room!

    Also, with cooking when traveling, you really need to account for the value of your time. The amount that you spent flying there as well as hotels and transport in country, is it worth your time to go grocery shopping and cooking, plus the small things to make tasty meals.

    • @seerasan

      UBER sadly isn't a super cheap option here - essentially because taxi drivers are doing UBER as well. The system is weird, but in summary it's not thaaat popular, although it's an option in the big cities! (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka etc.)
