Middlesbrough v Newcastle United 1983-84

David Currie and Gary Hamilton score for Boro in a surprise 3-2 win over promotion bound Newcastle at Ayresome Park at the beginning of the 1983-84 season. Even though Boro were pretty rubbish in this 1982 to early 86 era, there were a lot of very talented but raw youth team players coming through the ranks including Currie and Hamilton. Other such notables making their first appearances around this time were Tony Mowbray, Colin Cooper, Peter Beagrie, Stuart Ripley...um...David Mills and Mitch Cook.
Don't worry lads, only a couple of seasons of complete on and off field meltdown, financial implosion and as-near-as-it's-possible-to-get-to-extinction-without-the-asteroid-actually-hitting to get through over the next few years and most of you will be forever more lauded as heroes. Maybe not Mitch Cook so much although I hear is is still very highly regarded in Halifax which is a worthy addition to anyones CV.
