It was enough that Kenny was one of the greatest British players EVER, but what he did in support of the Hillsborough victims families outshines that. A totally, thoroughly decent man on every level. Modern players can't hold a candle to this man as a role model to youngsters.

Well said sir. There is things I can say but wont, but in my 66 years on this planet I have never seen a better player. There have been those that, under the current spotlight of world football that are widely considered to be better, granted, Messi and Maradona, fuck Ronaldo, he was only and still in it for himself. Dalglish was the perfect footballer, he saw things most dont. Rush would never have scored the amount of goals he did if it wasn't for KD,

I understand why some fans might not get it - there's a modern focus on 'tekkers'. But what KK had was amazing awareness and proprioception, sense of space, incredible touch on terrible pitches with a threat of (by today's standards) violence all around you. And he produced, individually in partnerships, and in his teams. Then he had success as a (player) manager, and as a man. Living legend.

I watched 50% of his Celtic career and 100% of his Scotland and Liverpool one. He will go down as probably the 5th best Celtic player ever behind McGrory, Jinky, Larrson and Ceasar. Not quite as good for Scotland as he struggled to capture his club form for Scotland. Players like Law outshone him internationally for goals per game and somelike Baxter and Jordan showed more passion for the shirt which is why they were loved by the Tartan Army. However for Liverpool he's probably the best they have had certainly since 1977. He's definitely in the discussion along with Rush, Keegan and maybe John Barnes!
As a man he struggled in the limelight. He didn't want to be centre stage. I saw him @ Charity events where he went because it was duty, but he couldn't wait to get away.
I've been watching football for almost 50 years both in Scotland and England. For me there is the very, very top level where imo you'd find Cruyff, Pele, Maradona, Best, Romario, etc. Then just in behind there's a level where I think you'd put Dalglish. Brilliant player in his day!

As a Glaswegian I disagree. We love gallows humour and taking the pish oot ourselves. That trait is not shared by Liverpudlians. Anyone laughing at Liverpool or Liverpudlians is met with agg. Imo us Glaswegians are more like Brummies, Mancs or even Geordies!

Why did Scotland never do anything with a spine of Dalglish, Hansen and Souness?

Of his time, in the best way. No fancy tricks. Just complete control of the ball. He'd be even better today because he wouldn't be getting kicked and elbowed and the pitches wouldn't be lumpy and slow.
