    I only paid £600 for it

    Fastest car indeed in the eighties, and without any hassle. Put it in 5th gear and it will pull efforthless over 200 km/h easily. Endspeed almost 300 km/h. Maintenance is very easy, if you use it just change oil regularly, and rest of maintenance will be almost the same as a 535i E28. In comparison to the Ferrari Testarossa and Lamborgini Countach (which where the fastest 2 door production cars at that time) the acceleration of this brickish Alpina is less the first meters because of the turbo the spinn up, and over 180 the sleeker 2 door cars will go up faster up to endspeed. But in normal conditions 80-160 km/h the Alpina will be the fastest. So on the Autobahn this will be the best way to travel, even after hours of driving, this also would have been the most comfortable. For everyday use you will have a lot of space for luggage and family or friends. Nothing beats the Alpina B7 if you like comfort together with speed, and for some also looks and handling. If you are looking to buy one, check the exhaust (which is originally one peace from the turbo to the back) and used to be available for 4000 dollars including sportcats from Alpina. First car in the upcoming Katalysator era that was faster than without it. Rust is normally not an issue on body work. Porsche drivers will be astonished on how easy, fast and with good handling this car drives.
    The Alpina B10 biturbo (e34) which was the follow up version, is not as easy on maintenance with turbos which don't last that long and more electronics. Allthough it was much sleeker and less noisy on higher speeds, it wasn't the fastest of its time... that went to the Opel Lotus, which was not the sofiticated.

    I don't know from where you got your numbers. But here in Germany (were the Alpina B7 Turbo was built) the new-price for a B7 Turbo was 150k D-Mark (the M5 was 125k) and the Testarossa was 228k D-Mark.
    And the B7 Turbo (on german autobahn) was extremely unreliable! Many turbo chargers have collapsed when under full power for a longer distance. The M5 (with its natural aspirated engine) was a lot more reliable and the power band was much better.
    In 1988 I had the privilege to drive both for many months, and the B7 Turbo was a disappointment, while the M5 did his job without dramas.

      Bizarre because I have in front of me the original invoice for a brand new 1985 Alpina B7 turbo e28...It did cost 73000 DM before taxes. BUT I agree 100 % with you regarding the reliability. 3 turbos in 165 000 km, one transmission, exhaust changed every 50 000 km...Engine blown out at 47 000 km, replaced at Alpina with a Turbo/2 engine with 330 HP. Hope for the best, expect the worst !! As you say, ''regular'' M cars of the era are more reliable...but what a car to have this Alpina !!!

      The cost when new in 1987 was $150Kusd. Adjusting 1987 dollars for inflation is the equivalent of $340Kusd today.

    • @papa_pt
      @papa_pt Před 4 lety

      is that right??? Japan has a lot less inflation for the yen compared to USD. If you calculate the inflation for the 21 mil, you get 25.5mil yen which converts to 235k USD today. Meaning it was about $100k new in the 80s

    False statement. They made 42, not 30. Also his numbers regarding the price are totally wrong...Typical EAG ''over the fence'' hype promotion so many people fall for...Everything, I mean everything they do at EAG can be done at your local BMW dealer for a LOT less money....But if people want to do business with them , good for them.... R.I.P Eric.
