  • BMW E28's are becoming a rare sight on Australia roads, the mid 80s 5-series are by these days a rather small car. Matt's E28 is now fitted with a E36 2.5L stroked and turbocharged six. We caught up with Matt at Pro Flow Fab recently for a run down on the setup.

Remember Jim Richards ''Black Beauty'' BMW 635csi in John Player Special livery that competed in Australian Touring Cars in 1985. If money were no object, swap out the motor for a Barra Turbo and let the good times roll.

    It wasn't all that long ago I bought an E28 535i for £1000 GB. Now they're getting pretty expensive here so I had to go with an E34 535i instead. Mind you, it still cost £7K but is rust free after a body resto 2 years ago. I love the M30 six pot but it's pretty under powered by modern standards so a bit of boost is called for. I'm new to boost though so lots to learn and save up for! This E28 is just about perfect to my eyes. Nice work!

    He's beat me to it. I've recently purchased an immaculate 2001 BMW 530i that has the M54 engine. I found a company in France that has turbo exhaust manifolds for this model and a company in Denmark that has two intercooler kits (large and small) for this model. I'll opt for the smaller kit as I will be running water/methanol injection and I'll be using the factory stock turbo that came off my territory. I'll let you know when I'm finished. Cheers.

    • @pazi88
      @pazi88 Před 2 lety

      Sounds pretty expensive 😅 Those are still like 300€ here in Finland. But you can get newer and stronger 6-speed for same price.. The gearbox has nothing similar with the v160 because one is getrag, one is ZF. But the ZF 5-speed is popular because it is much cheaper and can handle a lot of power.
