I like hearing Casey speak Canto, he doesn't use his native tongue as often as we hear Tiff speaking Spanish.
Also hope this helps you guys with the Canto:
3:46 Sau Mat. Sauw --> means Hand, Mut --> means Cloth
5:46 Louh Gong. Loh --> means Old, Gong --> double character means grandpa, single character could mean 1)male person or 2)public place. Anyway, Loh Gong is the common term for husband used in daily conversation in an informal way; there are many ways to say spouse, husband, wife, etc. Also, I think Tiff had the best pronunciation of it @5:59
8:30 Fan Gaau. Fan --> canto slang word for Sleep, Gaau --> character usually means Feeling. So when the words put together, if you want a direct translation, I guess it could either be - feeling sleepy or the sense of sleeping. But the phrase just means sleep.
11:44 Zyu Paa. Zyu --> means Pig. Paa --> I think means Pork ... I think, not too sure lol
15:30 Be Zau. Well I know Zau --> means Alcohol. And for Beh, I think it's just the Chinese translation of Beer.
P.S. I really love language videos. Maybe you guys can do this once a month or something :) I've watched a pair of interracial couple where they do videos like this. She uses her native tongue (Canto) the whole time in the video, giving small phrases like you guys are doing here, giving many examples slowly for her bf to try to guess what it means. Maybe, a suggestion for these kinds of videos (if you guys plan to do more) is to prepare more examples for the phrases you guys will be teaching / testing each other. :) These kinds of videos are fun bc I really want to improve my Canto and want to learn more Spanish. :)

    Martillo - Martelo
    Zanahoria - Cenoura
    Pestañas - Pestanas
    Costillas - Costelas or Costeletas

Cantonese is easy if you have mandarin as a base because the two languages are similar in tone. most people think chinese is difficult but you've never heard of thai, vietnamese, laos. southeast asian languages are the most difficult.

      @starocean01 Před 6 lety +57

What a better game is having Tiff being tested on proper book Spanish and the same for Casey for Canto. In the end, they are Americans ( Chicana Tiff & ABC Case). For example:
Parquear: The correct word is estacionar. Conflei es really cereal.

Fabio Restrepo that's true but US Spanish has been infiltrated by English. The real challenge is using RAE words. Paquear is not in any dictionary.
For example, "Nesescito go to the store para comprar los hamburger buns and arroz for el sushi 🍣 por la party" this common the US, pobobly not for a Paisa

Tiff is shockingly good at picking up the right tones! For a language like Cantonese that's all about not just pronunciation but also the intonation, she's able to repeat quite a few phrases pretty bang on for the first time.

I'm down here posted in Southern California (essentially Mexico,) and I do this kind of thing with some Latino/Latina coworkers of mine sometimes.
Interesting how little the people here know about some of the similarities between Mexican Spanish and Filipino, seeing as how my country's vocabulary has been influenced in much the same way as Mexican Spanish vocabulary has.
Anyway, it's always good to see a direct cultural exchange taking place, with no bullshit intentions behind it.

Benjamin T because Mandarin is the simplified version of Cantonese reason why Cantonese is confusing and hard to learn is that we have like 7-8 different tones

Great video. I'm Chinese and have been trying to learn Spanish and Portuguese myself. it feels like Cantonese vs Hakka. Very similar. Anyways, hey Tiff and Case, have you heard about Jyutping for cantonese? In my experience, It's the best romanized pronunciation guide for Cantonese that I've come across. Other systems are always a little off. For you who already speak cantonese, it will take you about 1 hour to master it.
