Question - have you guys seen a delay in payments recently?
If so, I can tell you why!
As a remodeler we do not do business with any company that uses Xactimate. It does not follow industry standard pricing by any means.
Hey Jeremy, do you guys do any insurance work at all?
This is Barbara with Chris Carpet and Water Restoration, you are spot on!! these 3rd parties if if you do not come to an agreement with them, they send it back to the carrier and boom a check goes out with the amount I would not agree to!! We will fight with the carrier but they do not inmost cases send the additional amount so unfortunately I have to charge the customer. They sign a work auth that states we cannot tell you what your insurance will pay or not pay but you as the customer are responsible for what Insurance does not pay. Its such a game!!! not to mention it takes months to get paid months
Happy Thanksgiving Barbara. Regarding content, what topics are you most interested in? Getting more water jobs, getting paid, getting denied claims covered?
I’d love your guidance
@@TheRestorationContractor WE definitely want more water and mold jobs and getting paid for what we do by insurance!!!
Shane,
I just want to thank you for the information you provide to the community of contractors that are currently in the industry and for those of us like myself who are looking to get into this trade. I think the honesty and wisdom you pass on to your fellow man is commendable. I look forward to watching more of your videos and picking up more valuable insights and information you are putting out to those looking to provide a great service to customers and maximize profit to provide for our families.
Thanks for what you do.
James A
Glad you find it useful!
Reach out to us if we can help you along the way
All of those things you mentioned on the “slippery slope” you should make a video on how to justify those charges. Good video bud 👍
Are you asking this from the stand point of Mit, recon?
I ask because my answer on how I address the problem will vary based on whether it is mit or recon.
I'd suggest we get on a call. You can go to www.WorkWithShane.com and fill out your information and it should take you my calendar page.
Be aware that terms and conditions of Xactimate #7 specifically says that it is not intended to "fix" prices.
Also, read "deny, delay, defend" by Jay M. Feinman.
Great video Shane. One thing I’ve started is when calling in the claim with the customer, have the customer make you the point of contact. This will help in sending and negotiating supplemental claims. We found out the hard way that the carriers started calling the customers after a supplemental claims trying to negotiate the prices or rather get them to agree with a lesser price they are “willing to pay”.
What is your favorite carrier?
Thank you this is the information I've been wanting. I appreciate the straightforward delivery of the content
You’re welcome - I have other videos on this topic… search my videos
Thanks for watching
What is not said is that restoration companies try to charge 4k for a small 2x2 water stain on the ceiling. This is why everything is reviewed for soft fraud because its rampant and very much so with mitigation and restoration companies.
Private companies can set their own prices. That doesn’t make it fraud
Must be an adjuster 😂😂😂
You’ll never get $4k on a 2x2 stain on the ceiling. You will charge that much to remove, dry, replace that piece of drywall, match the texture, paint the entire ceiling, mask and protect the areas, wait for approvals, wait to get paid, deal with angry entitled customers that can get really weird, work in a sometimes harsh environment, file a bunch of paperwork and deal with peoples emotions.
Great job. Very well put several items that every restoration contractor better learn.
How long have you been in the biz Bill?
Very well stated and Lai out in addressing this slippery slope.
Thanks for the feedback!
What services do you guys offer? Water, recon…?
We did 7 trades and we still can't get O&P paid. Insurance is a gimmick....
The HEPA filter argument I don’t agree with. Unless you are one of the few that literally throw them away after each job, there is no justification to charge a full filter every job.
Air filtration devices….. why do insurance not like paying for this piece of equipment when it’s an OSHA regulation to place one as an engineering control to protect its occupants and workers?
Because they want to save money!
If it didn’t cost them money, they would not care
Can you send the link to where OSHA says that? Thanks in advance.
What is the best way to learn xactamate and estimating?
I wouldn’t suggest you learn it
You can use other platforms for estimates
What type of jobs are you doing?
Just jump in and you learn. You can search for anything.
What am I missing? The video title says “How to make maximum results with Xactimate” but you don’t explain how to make maximum results with Xactimate? I think most of us in the comments understand the BS insurance pulls, that’s why we’re looking for a solution.
Excellent information. Keep posting.
Do you use Xactimate?
Do you do water mitigation?
Curious
Thank you Shane, As always, Good Stuff
You bet.
Want more info on invoicing / getting paid…
or more about getting more jobs?
Well done buddy!
Thanks Bentley!
It’s a bit of a challenge finding all you guys here on CZcams vs Facebook.
I am building the tribe here now. YT is a better place for me to house my content.
What are your primary uses for CZcams?
And, please do share these with FB groups as you see fit.
You are one of the good guys sir.
Bentley Mooney - small batch
I hate the insurance games
Who is the worst carrier for you?
Lately it’s been State Farm and AAA
Can you send pics with quick books and if so, how many?
So here is what we do... we place a link to the photos in the notes section of the estimate and invoice.
They can access the photos from the link.
We used Google Drive to store photos for years before moving to a photo application software.
Let me know if you need more help

I’d like to learn QuickBooks estimates
Sounds good! We actually use Quickbooks ourselves now too. It is WAY BETTER
I will create some content about the estimates in the future.
If you want to see some of our actual estimates, you can go to www.workwithshane.com and buy our 30 day test drive. It has a 100% money back guarantee if you don't like it.
shane
solid, can speak to fire damage
you do water too?
Couldn't agree more
Do you still use Xactimate?
4:39 😄
Yes, that was funny. My editor threw that in
Fact: carriers send restoration and reconstruction estimates to their vendors who always chop the estimate. If you want to remain a vendor in good standings and continue getting work you do what we ask of you. Vendors get paid very little like $150-250 each comparison estimate and again carriers logic is that the volume will make up for the low fee. Biggest shit show ever!
At least you know, some contractors are simply blind
@@TheRestorationContractor Here’s the bonus kicker, it’s likely your competitors writing the comparison estimates!
