- The Panhard 178 (officially designated as Automitrailleuse de Découverte Panhard modèle 1935, 178 being the internal project number at Panhard) was an advanced French reconnaissance 4x4 armored car that was designed for the French Army Cavalry units before World War II. It had a crew of four and was equipped with a 25mm main gun and a 7.5mm coaxial machine gun.
A number of these vehicles were in 1940 taken over by the Germans after the Fall of France and employed as the Panzerspähwagen P204 (f); for some months after the armistice of June production continued for the benefit of Germany. After 1941 the Germans modified 43 cars as railway-protection vehicles (Schienenpanzer) that could drive on the tracks themselves by means of special wheels and were fitted with large radio frame aerials.

A few years ago, this vehicle was found in Poland, buried up to a tower in an orchard. Then it was stolen and taken to an unknown collector in Western Europe.
I honestly hate that, I honestly think that stuff like this should be kept out of private collectors and put into museums
No articles or sources talk about it other than you, so I guess the train in question is mostly in your head.
@@AdmiralYamamoto-ph2jd History seekers" in Polsat Play, do you live in Poland and write nonsense?
@@gregutdmglaucos3757Maybe he's not talking about the armored train, but the reconnaissance vehicle instead.
@@AdmiralYamamoto-ph2jd Well, that's the cost of losing the war. Victors take the spoils.
Awesome rare footage of the Panhard. Especially the changing wheels shots. And awesome footage of the Panzerzug under steam, and "in action" (most likely posed for the camera). Have a couple of coffees on me for all your great work!
Really appreciated, thank you!
I'm a retired mechanic, I've worked on a couple WW2 vehicle restorations. These videos make me think of what it was like to be performing these tasks. In my mind I immediately wonder whether it's early or late in the war, because of the change in quality of parts and tools. I worked on a "1945" BMW R75, which was made after it's factory was bombed and manufacturing had ceased. In the closing month of the war they assembled vehicles from the rejected parts piled outside. Not one part was without a defect.
That must have been really cool to work on them
A scout car on tracks.... bold, on the wrong front I would say .... well I would'nt particularly be thrilled to get that job....love the stuff you come up with... thanks for posting.
Useful against insurgents.
Say all you like, armoured train is sick.
WW2 seems longer than just 6 years the amount of docos movies and footage about.
I think about this so often 😂 longer reply to come
I don't know where you find all this stuff, but it is gold. Thank you!
I found a 8 minute video of the Japanese Type 94 Armoured Train. Thing is an absolute BEAST.
Amazing!!
Gorgeous.
The Germans were very underprepared for the scale of the war so they repurposed everything, Czech tanks, Russian vehicles, French Vehicles, etc. They wasted nothing. Entire rear echelon units were equipped with foreign weapons and vehicles. Frontline units got more German equipment to ease logistics but footage like this is indeed gold as it how how resourceful they were.
Whenever I see a German armored train I can't help but think of Medal of Honor: Frontline lol
this train is in the game Enlisted
Awesome
"DRIVER, HARD RIGHT!!!!"
"Ha-ha, just kidding!"
Great film ! I always wondered what the metal rack was for; A Bimini top ? Used for camouflage netting ?
It's a radio antenna, they were fitted with more powerful sets in order to be able to communicate with the train.
Немецкие бронепоезда явление редкое
Good work uploading this precious film 🎥 imagine if all these video where made color with remastered sound AI by like a 3rd party
Flak vierling im Erdkampf..
Halleluja
I had a model kit of this vehicle, it comes with an included plastic terrain and railroad diorama, sadly my painting skills were not up to the task...
There is a Dragon 1:35 scale kit out there and one of the options is WH-697873, the exact same vehicle in the footage
@@hw97karbine i think that's the one i had, thanks!
More correctly, the designation for these was “Panzerspähwagen P204 (f)” and as seen the wheels could swapped out for land or rail use. They were often carried on a flat car (the two Panzerträgerwagen would still have tanks). Two of these were considered part of the complement if the mission called for them.
Not an eaay target
Were do you find these clips
I have never seen footage of a qrmored train in action
