- This medieval period inspired project is a custom order. Starting with a high carbon steel bar, I'm forging this dagger and finishing the bevels on the grinder. There's a lot of detailed nuance that goes into fashioning a piece like this.

Saying to be careful when grinding to the center line is like saying "just squeeze the trigger gently." Takes lots of practice, and then lots more to get confident and skilled enough to pull this off. Nicely ground!

Even though I have never forged anything and probable never will I like your voice overs on the theory of forging. It gives me a good idea of how much theory there is behind the creation of your blades. No one else gives any information like this in their forging videos.

You are GOOD at keeping track of the middle ridge! I am no craftsman, but once I made a wood kris for my son. Keeping the ridge line in the middle on both sides of a wave shaped blade was a challenge!

Something I’ve learned from working on different projects with 4 bevels like a daggers or a dirk or even some swords is forge bevels part way by hand hammering then use a spring fuller type tool but instead of fullers have dagger shaped top and bottom dies welded onto the spring so you can finish out the blade with equal thickness and straightness side to side which sets you up nicely when it’s time to grind. I’ve made a few different sizes of the spring dies/ fullers and have used mild steel to make the dies in a pinch but getting a nice 4140 hammer blank and cutting it in half on a bandsaw makes excellent die stock that will hold up nicely even without being hardened, just weld them to the spring after making the dies and then stick them in the forge and bring it up to critical temp and remove it and let it air cool as many 4140 is sold in the annealed state and you want it out back to normal state

At this point, can't really see anyone questioning the process or the result as its looking solid.
I've made a couple of 14th and 15th century knives from various historical sources, but never a dagger. Mostly because in my part of the world its a pretty limited market, I'm allowed to make them, sell them but you're not really allowed to carry them around so it sort of limits them to just being 'ornamental' pieces, which is something I'm not really into

Very nice, big fan of the double edged blades like that, Ive got a short one I keep in my boot sometimes 👍 in your opinion what is a good length/weight for a throwing knife? My kids and I love throwing but any store bought sets feel so small and light, in my mind I wanna find something a good 12” with some weight to it.
I'm in the middle of forging a "dāgger" also. It'll be technically be my third one I've made. 🤣🤣
from the historic and traditional point of view they would have forged in the bevels and on historic examples the ridge is very often not particularly straight, and as a Brit I can safely say that was more like an Aussie accent lol

How is grinding bevels on a dagger compared to a regular knife? Is it more complicated? Do you find yourself chasing the centerline or not?
I go slower, checking everything a lot more often
So i have been making damascus steel for about 2 months and i have been having problems with my forges tempature and welds randomly come apart i weld at 2000 degrees farenheight with flux is there a propane forge that you recomend that i could forge weld easily in? Thank you very much sir.
I've forge welded out of a couple Majestic forges, several forged I made, and others. A fire but ick at one or both ends helps raise the temp a little. Running around 20-25 psi often necessary.
