    Thank you for this great review. I was thinking about selling this until you mentioned the bugs! And other reviews I have seen have not mentioned this. Well done 👍

    Awesome, comprehensive video! It's definitely helped me with my purchase decision.

    Thanks for your testing and review. It's weird that this meter shows an exposure value (EV) but doesn't "lock" the aperture and exposure to the same EV as you change the wheel. Once you have the EV the rest should be a simple lookup table. In your on camera demo here, the EV output remains constant as you scroll the wheel. But I can easily confirm that values for aperture and exposure get out of sink by looking them up in an EV table. There's a good one on Wikipedia. I can imagine that can easily lead to some frustrating shots. You change the environment you are shooting in, take a reading, see that it ends up being near one extreme, decide it would be a good opportunity to adjust your aperture for sharpness or depth of field reasons (or your shutter speed for camera shake reasons, or whatever) and assume after you make the adjustment on the wheel you can still trust what is displayed on the screen. If you remember to take a new reading after adjusting anything you'll be in good shape. But part of the appeal of a hot shoe mount meter like this is to cut down on the number of things we need to remember while shooting.

    I found this video after buying this and using it for a few film roll without knowing the bug 😢. Also, I am using a Konica 3, similar to your 3A, may I know the filter you are attaching to the lens? Thank you, great video :D

      If you are aware of the bug, you can work around it. I used a cheap skylight 1-A Filter, it is a general-use filter with a slight pink tint that helps improve overall color accuracy and clarity. The light pink coloration helps reduce the overall bluish cast of daylight and is especially effective when photographing landscapes and in the shade. Mainly as a protective lens. You can use a UV filter as well.

    for the first quirk. When pressed , the meter takes a single reading, subsequently when rotating dial, the aperture/shutter combinations are calculated based on this reading (EV value displayed ). then you pressed button again, the reading changed, because reading changed

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  Před rokem +1

      the calculation is off, i tested with the same lighting, rotating dial auto calculation and dial and then press calculation is totally off.

    Hi there. Thanks for your review. I’m curious that if it’s in constant metering is the bug still happening?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      No, if it is in constant metering mode, the bug does not happen. However, your battery is certainly going to die in a day or two in constant metering mode

    Also I heard this only does full stop changes. Can you set it for 1/3rd stop changes?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      It only does full stop changes for shutter speed, because vintage cameras usually have only full stop increments, so it's a thoughtful design. You can, however, use aperture metering instead, and in aperture metering, it does 1/3 stops, hope it helps :)

      @@TheGizmoGarageThanks for sharing! I may still get one. seems the simplest and most practical of this new generation of light meters. bit annoying as it appears that you have to compensate +1 stop every time you use it.

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  Před 2 lety

      @@momentarylapses5784 Mine has been accurate, no compensation necessary, negative all come back fine. If by +1 stop you mean doing 1 more click just to make sure it updates metering correctly after changing the values using the wheel, then yes bit annoying, but get used to it fairly quickly.

    Thank you for great review. Have they fixed any bugs for this meter? Or is it even possible to update through USB C port?

      Not sure, better contact Doomo, they didn't respond to my questions either.

      hard to say... I went back to use my iPhone light meter and handheld light meter...

  •  Před 2 lety

    Have you emailed Doomo with this issue? It’s be great if they made a software patch available for the user but the usb-c port might be there just for charging…

    Have they fixed the bugs, do you know?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  Před rokem +1

      I stopped shooting rangefinder and now just use my Minolta XD7 that, had a great built-in meter whenever I shoot film, so sadly, I'm unable to update you.
      Judging from their website, I would assume it might still be present as there is no mention of any updates done to the meter.

      Wouldn't call it a scam, it actually works better than a lot of other hot shoe mount light meters out there. See actual photos taking using the Meter S in my Leica M4-2 review here: czcams.com/video/5gwN4ib_ZEE/video.html
