    This light meter sounds like a gem based on the form factor, cost, and combination of features. I for one appreciate some content devoted to film-based products even though I use mostly digital. Irrespective of whether a manufacturer sends you products for free for promotion purposes, I've always found that your reviews are candid, comprehensive, and spot-on.

    I just got mine, in black finish, from Amazon this week. The build quality is amazing for the price and the meter is half the size of the previous TT Artisans hot shoe light meter I bought at the beginning of 2023. It's very functional and small and highly recommended for anyone looking for one.

    My order just arrived me and i couldn't be happier. High quality metal construction. Very simple to use, very small, and the black goes great with my black pentax k2 :) Your review was very nice and helpful too, thank you 😊

    My sister might like one of these. She has an OM1n that has a broken Light meter.

    Superb episode. I've had a Sekonic L308S for some time, thinking to use it with film cameras, but I could never get readings from it that were anywhere near what my digital cameras calculate. So I've thought that a meter like the one you demonstrate here would suit me better.

    • @RobTrek

      Thanks. As I mentioned in the video, but just to clarify, strong backlit scenes are way off what my digital cameras read. Still, the exposures came out okay. Gotta love film!

    I was worried that this wouldn’t work with my old Yashica cameras, because they only have cold shoes. But looking at the images it looks like it just has an unpowered shoe mount (cold-shoe) , so all good. I think I need one - I’ll just calibrate it like you showed. Thank you for sharing!!

    • @RobTrek

      Thanks. As I mentioned in the video, but just to emphasize, strong backlit scenes are way off what my digital cameras read. More than 2 or 3 stops sometimes. Still, the exposures came out okay.

    You can fine tune your readings by changing your iso as well as by the ev adjustment.

    While maybe a bit awkward mounted on the side hot shoe, this might be handy for my old Yashica 124 and 124G TLR which to be honest, never had a great light meter to begin with. I also have lots of pre 1975 SLR cameras (Nikkormats and Spotmatics) that could benefit from this.

      Thanks. I use it sometimes to double check even my metered cameras.

    Thanks for this review. Q: On Olympus camera, how do I keep the focus locked during sequential shooting?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Před rokem +1

      You would set your AF mode to S-AF. It will lock focus on the first image only.

  • @eakishway
    @eakishway Před 2 měsíci

    I guess the one stop difference is because the ISO 200 of Olympus Pen F is actual ISO 91 (as measured by DXOMARK).

      Could be. Thanks.

    I received mine the ither day. What did you think of the dial functionality? You can feel the click indents when spinning it, and I felt like it should have changed the setting with each click. Often times I would spin it 4,5,6+ clicks before the led readout would register the change. I'm wondering if your experience is the same. If not, then mine is not functioning properly and will need to exchange it for a new one.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Před rokem +1

      I always forget to mention something. The click indents! That said, I'm not having any issue with mine. I double checked and each click changed the setting by 1/3 stop.

    Hello Rob. Thanks again for a great video.
    I have an unrelated question, if I may. I have an OMS OM-1 and I use a third party flash gun. Can you tell me please if you know of a way to fire off this flash gun remotely (off of camera?)

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Před rokem

      You'd need to get a basic single pin radio trigger/receiver set. You will have to control the flash power manually though.

      @@RobTrek thank you. I will investigate that. Alternatively I am also looking into using LED video lights as an affordable alternative to flash.

    Consumer beware.

    Looks a lot like a clone of the Doomo S meter. I have two of these and they are very good and easy to use. They also provide a sidemount for my TLR.

    This looks like a bargain. Found it after looking for the ttartisan meter but this has more features for the same money. Just a thought on testing it with a digital camera. The iso on digital isn’t a standard like it was for film, it’s all over the shop between manufacturers and even models from the same manufacturer. I’ve tested this a few times with other photographers, all shooting the same scene and the difference is surprising!

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thankfully, film (not slide) is fairly flexible.

    Is it possible to use this for flash photography? I haven’t seen any review about this light meter covering that topic. And if so, how would you use it or which function of the product is more suitable for this type of photography

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Před 2 měsíci

      It is not usable for flash photography. Flash light meters use very different sensors and programming.

    Unrelated question for you Rob....How long will a EM1ii hold the time/date/custom function when you remove the battery? My EM1's eat batteries if they sit for a couple weeks and I don't want to burn up batteries by having to recharging them often......

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Před rokem

      I'm not sure. I never paid much attention to it myself. The consensus is that if you leave a fully charged battery in the camera for 24 hours, it will fully charge the internal clock battery. I think I've gone a few weeks with no problem.

    It's sad to see that this channel is now used to promote products just because they are sent for free. That is as long as the channel acts the way the producers expect. Why on earth should I view a video about an external light meter. All my cameras during the last 30+ years could do without one. Sorry Rob Trek, but I end the subscription now.

    • @RobTrek
