What’s heartbreaking about this scene is that the song is about all the things that Bonnie still had yet to do when his life was cut short. “The house left unfinished and babies unborn.” And it’s the song that Margy sings right before he dies, which makes you think of all of the things he still wanted to do in his life before he lost his family and then the Baudelaire’s lost him
I was a bit disappointed that Monty didn't sing a song in the Netflix version. Nonetheless, they did a great rendition of the Monty arc themselves. Very heartfelt. His death was tragic, as is everything else in the miserable lives of the Boudelaire orphans.

If you ever see his Best Male Performance acceptance speech for The Truman Show at the MTV Movie Awards, you know how well he can play a character. In this movie, he’s playing his mid-90s “Jim Carrey” persona. A more confident director would have reigned him in and encouraged him to inhabit a character instead of playing a version of himself.

I remember this song from when I was a little boy, my aunt would sing it, and a few other from the book. Still gives me shivers.
