I think those kisses kind of made it look like a sexual assault.
And they ruin the built tension alongside with the respect towards Zorro, because he treats that woman, less like a person, more like an object of his desires.
It kind of makes me dislike the whole scene. But that's just my opinion.

I love this movie. There are other scenes I love in the movie. Like the scene where he aims for his horse's back, and the rascal of a horse waits for him to jump, then moves away, causing him to land on the ground instead.

That wasn't a fight. It was a make-out session with swords.
It wasn't unnecessarily complex, and you didn't have to think too hard, you could simply enjoy it as winding down time and watching a good movie, it was simply entertainment unlike some movies today that somehow leave you feeling drained and exhausted
