      Christians as a whole have never struck me as caring about others. They have their book, which they routinely use to beat people with (metaphorically) who don’t fit their little box (especially women). So, here is this christian man, who basically says that single parents are losers, showing the true colours of what christianity is. Follow MY rules, in a book written exclusively by men, for men, hundreds if not thousands years AFTER the events they believe so willingly, who believe that a woman had to be a virgin to be considered worthy enough to have the child of god. Here is this man going on and on about marriage and having children who literally believes that the “mother” of their saviour was untouched by sex. He also has no room in his heart if he believes that women should be punished for whatever “sin” has left them single parents. I wonder how he feels if a parent suddenly finds themselves single parents due to the tragedy of their partner dying. Is there a just punishment in his book for those families? And are those children going to, somehow, become less of a person? And people wonder why I despise religion

Yet at the same time they want to ban abortions AND contraception so that women who are raped or have consensual sex without their permission are forced to remain pregnant, give birth to those children and raise them in single parent homes where they MUST be forced to live lives of poverty and disadvantage so that the kids fail at life.
      Their moral stance sounds contradictory but it makes perfect sense when you realise it has nothing to do with concern for or protecting children and that kids are merely a tool used to punish women.

In addition, I have to commend your patience in dealing with his outright ignorance; more power to you. I can't help but wonder why he finds your being Jewish, and your instilling Jewish traditions in your children, so hilarious. I want to end my comments with my observation, while listening to Austin Ruse, regarding his style of expressing himself. He sounds remarkably like Marcus Bachmann, if you catch my drift. My thoughts are echoed by the comment immediately before mine, by Jonathan Seale. In a nutshell, Mr. Ruse sounds as gay as a spring frock, or three cans of pink paint. Please give us an update when you hear that he's been caught on his knees in an airport men's room with a hustler named Lance.
    (As I'm typing, Ruse is making his proclamations regarding alleged "morality". Can I assume that Ruse is aware that in heterosexual unions, practices such as fellatio, cunnilingus, and anal sex occur on a daily basis? And is he aware that these practices are now legal, and do not lead to procreation? )

      @Trevor Horton literally every child on Earth who was raised has been indoctrinated. This is how humans work. We are born knowing nothing, not even how to speak. Language is the basis of thought, you think in terms of language. How do babies learn to speak? They're taught to speak by other people who impart their own understanding of the world onto that baby. So yes, every single person is indoctrinated. The question is by whom were they indoctrinated.

In other words, because people in the 18th century though it best to happen to single out religion as getting special privileges, the law shouldn't today, in the 21st century, be re-codified to include things that apply more openly to our civil rights. His only argument is "it's tradition." Meanwhile, "traditional marriage" between 1 man and 1 woman has only been the accepted tradition for a few hundred years.

Later when I came to understand my sexuality and that I had none of those feelings toward him I was able to understand my true feelings on the issue as it pertained to me. My point is that we shouldn't prevent ourselves from trusting children with information. They might misinterpret it, but it will inform their perceptions of reality as they mature mentally and gain access to more and more information. It also stimulates their curiosity which is extremely important for their intellectual development. I'm not sure that I would even hide the reality of school shootings from my children. I would make them understand how unlikely they are to be involved in such a thing, but I wouldn't hide that from them. Their knowledge of such things could even give them perception on the warning signs to look for in their peers so that they could play a role in preventing such a thing from happening. That would be obviously much more of a positive outcome than hiding the truth from them.

This so-called man of God talking to Sam thinks I should have been punished via tax policy because I was a single parent for most of my child's formative years. Maybe he'll be happy to know that because I chose to prioritize time with my child over a career it has negatively affected my Social Security payments in retirement. That'll teach me!

    ADOPTED children who would have been trapped in the system and are instead rescued and given a happy home also have the best chance at success in life. Most kids considered as least likely to find parents are being adopted by same sex couples every day.

    I was raised Catholic. Then again I was raised working class by a twice divorced single mother who supports gay rights and who always urged my siblings and I to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." She also accepts me as trans, so I guess she's a complete monster or something.

    Why do I get the sense that this guy is a closeted homosexual. , I mean he talks with a very effeminate voice which kind of gives that impression, but i've known people who were not gay and talk similarly. I just can't imagine someone caring that much about what gay people are doing if you are strait. I feel bad for him, and despise him at the same time. His poor kids.

      This is exactly why he hedged again and again. Sometimes one of the parents dies, sometimes one of the parents goes off to war, sometimes one of the parents goes off to jail, sometimes one of the parents gets sick. It is socially unthinkable to punish the remaining parent in these situations, so he makes exceptions for single parents, but punishes same-sex parents because "they aren't even trying to be a straight couple."

      Fucking weak.
      Gay couples cannot have a kid accidentally. They tend to have thought it out and are more prepared to raise children (higher income). Straight couples can have unplanned kids, heck most straight couples I know over 40? That's how they had most of their kids, unplanned.
      Also you gotta jump through a lot of hoops to have kids if you're gay, a lot more hoops than straight couples do. One drunken night they forget a condom and boom, here comes a kid.

      Heath Kitchen I support Christianity! However, I am beside myself with this hate movement within the Christian Faith!! There seem to be two movements (or camps) of the Christian Faith.
      One camp seems to;
      -condemn that which is not White, heterosexual, and wealthy;
      -be Unconcerned about the poor (which contradicts THE BIBLE!),
      -FIGHT ONLY the Abortion of WHITE BABIES,
      -does not respect women's rights,
      -wants to mis-educate the youth,
      -celebrates those who FARM and HUNT, but yet is UNCONCERNED ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT;
      -want to "beatify" the wealthy as saints;
      -wants to justify racial, religious, and economic segregation;
      -support foreign policies that will most likely result in war and the killing of millions(another BIBLICAL contradiction)
      I am sure that this is all VERY CONFUSING to outsiders!

  • @jdprettynails

    I was 13 when I learned about abortion in school. We learned what it is, the history of it and how not getting safe access impacts women. We also learned about safe sex, masturbation, boundaries and consent, STDs and childbirth.
    By the time I was 11, I already knew about periods and sexual reproduction.
    I learned these things in school and I was able to ask my mum if I had questions.
    My heart goes out to all the gay kids who have religious parents. It's one thing dealing with society's bigotry, but when it comes from your own parents is another thing entirely!

    What's funny is that research shows that two parents regardless of those parents sexes, gender identity, or sexual orientation are better for children than single parent house holds.
    Actually children of same sex parents appear to have better outcomes than children of heterosexual couples. I think you guys should get this guy on the show now and ask him about that thing he said would never happen has happened. Send him the plethora of research on children being raised by same sex couples.
    Hell I'll come on the show. I have my degree in psychology and sociology and I'd love to discuss research findings with this guy.
    There are nuances to this research that is a lot to get into in a comment section but I'd love to get into the weeds with this guy.
