Where does the Asian population live in the USA?

- Let's take a look at the Asian population of the United States. This video is about the Asian states in America. All Asian Races, not just Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Filipino.
Normally I don’t do anything related to race on this channel because I am at a disadvantage. I was raised right and the only time I notice racial differences when it comes to food. The thing is, not everyone is like that. We have a lot of people in this country that see things differently.
In recent years there have been far to many incidents of Asian hate.
We have all seen videos of people telling someone to go back to their country. Most of the time, those people are in their country.
If you think Asians aren’t Americans, you are wrong.

Best thing I ever heard was two women standing in line at a bank, talking in different language, when someone turned round and told them to go home to the wherever they came from as English is spoken here. One turned round and told him that they were Native American, so when you leaving.
Why didn't the Indians fight better? Guess it was never theirs.

Very sorry for your loss. I am half Korean/American.
As a white male, I spent about 5 years working at a business where I was the only non-Cambodian person on the production floor. It was awkward at first, but before long, I was accepted into the circle, helped some of the older folks with their English, while they helped me with Khmer. I ended up going to many weddings, celebrations, Cambodian New Year etc. It was such a wonderful adventure, and I wouldn't give up the experience for anything.
Most of my life, I was the only Asian at my workplace. I was in the high tech field and I am 91 years old.
Asian communities are very welcoming, glad you got to enjoy your time.

I live in Virginia and dude is right we got alot of asian/Asian americans here. Go to Annandale, Alexandria and Centreville and you have all you can eat Korean BBQ, Korean Restaurants, bars, bakeries, karaoke, etc, Chinese Dim Sum, Vietnamese Pho restaurants, Spa World, etc. Although these are mainly restaurants and hangout places it goes to show that the reason there are so many of these is cuz the population here is quite enormous. Honestly it's great NoVA is super diverse and overall fun to be around with humble and hardworking people.
yep im from fairfax, i honestly think virginia is the best state

When I was in college in Memphis, Tennessee way back in the 70s, I once ate at a Chinese restaurant in which the owner and chef was a black man who spoke fluent Chinese. He had been a prisoner of war in Vietnam, and when released, he chose to be released to the communist side; he went to the People's Republic of China, became fluent in Chinese, and did a lot of work for diplomatic missions there. Then he returned to the US, to Memphis, and because of all the anti-communist sentiment in those days, he had a hard time finding work, in spite of his intelligence and ability; with all his other options gone, he finally settled on opening a Chinese restaurant. I hope you liked this story, which is a true story; truth is often stranger than fiction!
Wow, what a story. Thanks for sharing!
Name of restaurant?
Amazing story
He should have stayed in China.
That is really interesting, I love it! Minus the part of him being a prisoner of war =/ I'd like to go eat at his restaurant though!
I am from the Philippines, but presently living here in Sydney, Australia, one GOOD thing about having a DIVERSE Asian population is the PRESENCE of good food, Shawarma from Lebanon, Biryani from India, Falafel from Syria, Adobo from the Philippines, Pho from Vietnam, and Kimchi from Korea, when I visited my sister in San Diego, 3 years ago, I did not feel alone, because of San Diego's large Asian and Mexican Population, and that is the FIRST time I taste the authentic Mexican Tortilla, Burritos, and MexiCali food. Proud to be Asian, married to a Blue Eyed Blonde from Australia, the LOVE of my life, we have been together since our High School days, and HAPPILY married for 28 years, with a beautiful mixed-race son and daughter.
You liked not feeling alone because people look like you in San Diego, but a white Euro-American wanting to not feel a minority, diversified out of his home is a "white supremacist racist"? I know you didn't say this, but it is the saying in the U.S. when a white person voices exactly what you did. And if a White man fancies a n Asian woman, he is accused of having Yellow fever and fetishizing. Shamed! But you state it proudly: "I have a Blonde hair blue eyed" partner. Disgusting anti-white double standard that you probably don't even think twice about, b/c You Got Yours. Thanks for committing genocide on my people.
You sure do enjoys cultural good foods.

Koreans, Japanese and Chinese have done amazing work in many cities and neighborhoods settling down in rough and sometimes total ghetto and dangerous areas or low down but affordable neighborhoods and working their way up the ladder and improving the areas and neighborhoods in to successful places full of small businesses and raising the values and quality of life from night in to day. Absolutely incredible work. Not to say other immigrants do not do the same but there is a very clear positive impact from the communities. White Americans have mostly run away from dangerous or rough areas to the suburbs but many Asian immigrants go right in and make incredible differences.
Love your comment. East Asian people work hard because we believe in helping ourselves first, then God will help us. An ancient Chinese hero Da Yu literally tore through a mountain to stop the flood. Running away in a Noah's ark is not an option for us.
I’m Korean American. Born in Boston but live in the Northern Virginia area in one the many Korea Towns we have here. (Centreville) literally there’s 8 Korean BBQ places and a ton of Korean restaurants all within walking distance from my house but… Hawaii… Mind you I’ve never been to Korea in my whole life excluding the one time when I was 3 but that doesn’t count. But Hawaii, was the first time I felt like I wasn’t a minority. I walked down the street and even in local stores like Walmart, more than half the people in the streets and employees in the stores were Asian. I thought it was dope but not surprised they’re the highest in terms of percentage!

I am in Southern California and very happy to live in a predominantly Asian area . As an older person respect for elders is part of Asian culture. I benefit from this. My sons went to school with classmates who’s families value education. The schools reflected the parents demand for excellent curriculum. I like having Asian grocery stores and wonderful restaurants near me. Lower crime rates too.

Thank you for the information... this was very interesting to listen to. I grew up in NY but moved down to Georgia and as being Asian-American it's interesting to see the different dynamics there are because of the demographic differences.
Here in Queens there’s a huge Asian community. There are large Chinese, Korean, Filipino and Indian communities, as well as a few others. Flushing is basically a bigger Chinatown but with multiple Asian nationalities.
In the Bronx where I live, there's at least 6 or 7 chinese restaurants within walking distance of each other. And there's loads of Asian restaurants elsewhere in the borough
Correct! For some time Flushing has been the "Chinatown" of all of NYC. It makes sense, since it's the biggest. Brooklyn has the second biggest, and Manhattan third.

I am a Washington resident and have the opportunity to go into Bellevue and Seattle often. The Asian culture here is amazing and I have learned so much over the years attending Lunar new year celebrations and dining out. Various choices for restaurants as well as plenty of Asian grocery mega stores where you can buy literally anything from any where it seems.

As an American, Hawaii was an eye opener as well lol. I’m from Florida so I’ll just stick to the Keys here for my island experiences from here on out.
I grew up in Harford County Maryland. In the 70s & 80s while I was in school, there was just one asian family, from Vietnam. The family was popular due to their kindness and the fact that they owned the Carvel icecream store in Edgewood. There were no asian restaurants or anything like that (pretty much all Italian). I was back there a few years ago and there are chinese restaurants all over the place.
Grew up not far from there, Anne Arundel County...Fort Meade to be exact during the 80s. Went to school with lots and I mean lots of Asians and 1/2 Asians...many of whom I stay in touch with till this day.
Maryland has changed a LOT since the 70's. Especially around the Washington DC area.

Aloha from Hawaii! There are many Japanese, Filipinos, Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Thai and Lao people in here! You will find more authentic asian stuffs in here! It's very peaceful and laidback here in Hawaii compared to the mainland.
very laidback and extremely expensive 🙃
Asians are some of the nicest people. My son is dating a girl from Indonesia, my brother is married to a woman from the Philippines, several friends are mixed Japanese & white. The fetishization of asian women is beyond ridiculous.😅 fortunately, asian women don't seem to mind. In fact, they enjoy it quite thoroughly.
But do you like Asian men? IF not, just another case of yellow fever.

Very good. I really thought Texas and Louisiana would be in that top ten. There are good size Vietnamese and Laotian communities in Tarrant County Texas.
Great post. Love your info. Thank you.
I'm very surprised Texas didn't crack the top 10 by percentage, but I guess if you went by actual population and not percentage, it would be in the top 5. The Asian diversity (especially in the Houston and gulf coast areas) is amazing, and has been so for decades. The southwest suburbs of Houston, Frisco and Irving outside of Dallas, and Port Arthur have very large noticeable populations.
Chinatown in Houston (along Bellaire Blvd) is pretty rad, too.
tbh i was expecting Texas to be at the top !
Indeed, Fort Bend County (southwest suburban Houston) has a very large and vibrant south Asian population (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi).
We were in Dallas for a bowling tournament. Surprised just down the street from the hotel was the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Park where a few of the kids were playing a pickup game of cricket. We also ran across a significant Vietnamese community near Grand Prairie where my son demanded we stop for Phở.
@@haxx90, those of us that live in the cities of Texas -- especially Houston and Dallas -- might expect Texas to be at the top, because we encounter so many Asian people without too much thought about it.
However, I imagine that the numbers are quite a bit smaller outside the Texas Triangle (Hou--D/FW--SA/Aus).

I live in Nevada, and that makes sense. They call Vegas the 9th [Hawaiian] island because so many Hawaiians moved here in the past 30+ yrs. There’s also lots of other Pacific Islanders (Guam, Samoa, etc) and a large Filipino population, possibly due to California being so close and many moving from LA. One of the most popular supermarkets in Vegas is Seafood City which sells Asian (eg Filipino) foods
And the state with the most Las Vegas lobbyists is Hawaii. They lobby Hawaiian lawmakers (and illegal game room/gambling owners) to make sure that Hawaii has no legal gambling, not every lottery. Asians love gambling, so those degenerate gamblers have no choice, but to go to Vegas to "legally" gamble, if they do not want to leave the country.
I'm Filipino American I got to check out Vegas
I lived in Vegas for 15 years and a lot of my friends are Asians lol.. I am a black girl.. still are my friends.
There is one Seafood city in San Diego own by Phillipino too.
Lots of Tongans in Salt Lake City and also there are some in San Francisco, or were.
I thought that you might have had a video for East Asian Americans and another video for South Asian Americans (Indian subcontinent) because that would be interesting (to me anyhow) because some similarities about where they have settled here and probably some dissimilarites.

Hey, can you do a Top 10 States with LOWEST Asian population? I'm totally curious. My wife is a white woman who grew up in Nashville, TN, and hardly knew any Asian people when she lived there. I saw a fair amount of Asians the times I've been there, but then they were mostly either on the street in downtown Nashville that all the tourists flock to, or in the one Asian (Thai) restaurant we ate at.
Also, it's kinda crazy that I've been to 9 out of the 10 states on this list!

@spence American is a nationality not an ethnicity
So just like an American of European decent describes himself as white so does he
@spence I describe myself as Japanese American. I just think it's silly whenever I hear people tell someone they "aren't American." They're right if they're talking to an illegal immigrant, but look like a fool if they're not. Also what Sabrina said.
@spence As Sabrina said, American is not an ethnicity. Thought, I could just say im Asian American but I personally dont like calling myself an "American". The United States has shown it's distaste for Asians ever since we first came here. I personally don't like identifying as something that has tried to actively kick my people out. America has a very deep and sad Anti-Asian history. Even today, the United States is deporting Cambodians who were refugees in the Vietnam War (If a Cambodian refugee has not gained US Citizenship, they are at high risk of being deported regardless of how long they have stayed in America).
And no, I dont "freak out" when people call me by my nationality because I know im a US Citizen. I just dont like the title of "American" because of said reasons above.
Thanks for this video. I live in Maryland and my wife is native Japanese and my 3 sons are all mixed. We have a lot of great Asian supermarkets and really great Korean restaurants here
My wife is Chinese and we've lived in Nashville since we were married in 2017. Nashville is pretty awesome, but certainly not many Asians other than Vandy students. Been hard for her to find other Asian friends. I work in finance and we've discussed moving to NYC, but talk about a culture shock from Nashville to NYC! Not sure I could live there having been raised in the South. Hawaii on the other hand....they seem to live life at a similar, friendly pace. I could dig Hawaii.

Briggs, you should consider doing more videos like this. Immigrants are what has made our country great, and it is interesting to me knowing which places they (or should I say we) have settled in. How about a video on the top 10 states with the most Italians, Greeks, or Bosnians? Talk about what they brought to that area and what attracted them to it. This could be a topic that would be interesting to many viewers!
Yes, it would be interesting to see the most French, Polish, Salvadorean, Jewish, Filipino, or Vietnamese states!
Lots of Slavs of various types in the Chicago area. Serbian, Polish, Ukrainian.
Shocking-or not-that most Americans forget that, pre-1700s, majority of their ancestors/predecessors immigrated from other countries. And even less of those can trace their bloodline. This video was just confirms ALL notions that Americans have more in common w/each other than they/we care to admit.....XLNT

Thanks Briggs. I can't remember who I got this from. It was in CZcams or PBS. Someone told this man to go back to where he came from. The guy answered NEW JERSEY? 😂😂😂😂 I loved that come back!
Great list Briggs!! I lived in Illinois, California and Washington between 6-21 y.o. I can confirm your accuracy, and the numbers just keep going up. Next up "The 10 Cities With the Highest Asian Population"
@Lorey Taylor what would the same list be if it was instead cities with highest asian percentage of population instead of population in general?
@Lorey Taylor damn, funny you mention irvine cuz i actually live in irvine xD, and yeah we have a HUGE asian population
Definitely surprised by most of the entries on this list. Though I knew NY and Cali were gonna be at the top somewhere. Been thinking about moving to TN too.
Hello from Scotland! CZcams is a great way to find out about other countries, isn't it? Scotland has quite a big Asian population too, which I think is mainly Chinese, Indian and Pakistani, although I could be wrong. It's very rare to see Pakistani or Indian people in US films or t.v shows, so for years I genuinely thought that the U.S did not have an huge Pakistani or Indian population, until people I knew who had holidayed or lived in the U.S put me right. I'd love to hear about the Scottish diaspora in the USA - I believe a lot of Scots settled in the South and Appalachia, but judging by the swearing it sounds like quite a few went to New Jersey🤣
Indians/Pakistani are the "silent" Asian minority in the US. Probably because most Americans don't associate them with being "Asian" but mistakenly "middle-eastern".
Another outstanding and fascinating video, Briggs! Here in Northern Suburbs of Chicago, where I live, our local high school is 1 of Top public high schools in USA. 1/3 Asian student population. My neighborhood is so wonderful; such an excellent, diverse community.
Speaking of diverse the Los Angeles Unified School District, one of the largest in the nation, has to deal with 39 different languages or was it 37?
I grew up in South Carolina and my original Catholic parish had a large Vietnamese population. Mass was held in Vietnamese quite often on varying times on Sunday. I worked in a Filipino restaurant owned by a Filipino and her husband. I was pretty sure of the one and two states on the list, but New Jersey at three, what a surprise!
NJ shouldn't be a surprise. I work with 2 Asians and there's 6 total employees including me there
Fix it 1975 speaks the truth. NJ has a massive Asian population. Edison alone is basically little India. Fort Lee is all Korean. I work in tech not far from Rutgers, i work with a ton of chinese people.
just to add a bit. Newark is an international airport and JFK is only an hour and change away. Both are massive international airports with people coming in from all over the world. It should make sense that they spread out between New York, Philly and of course all over NJ
NJ has the largest Indian population out of all 50 states.
Lots of Viets are Catholics, a consequence of the French colonization of VN.
Very interesting video. I love it. Thank you!
Major respect to mentioning my city Torrance, California I did not expect that 😂☺️
Hey Briggs. I'm glad you did this list. I'm part of asian descent.
I thought California would be #1! I like Asian people. Often times they are good hardworking people who come here and try to learn English the best they can.
So, you thought most people in California are Asian?
@@email5023 No. Asians are a minority in this country. But we are a huge state that has China Town.
The ranking is a percentage of the population - not the number of Asians in these States. Asians are very adaptable and resourceful people - they seem to thrive wherever they go.
He's doing it based on percentage, not total. Cali has 40 mill people, was surprised it was even on the list....
It's a refreshing change for California that the Asian people try to learn English the best they can. Seems like the opposite for many of the Latino communities that refuse to learn English or just simply don't care to. Either way, If I move to another country I'd make it a priority to learn as much of their language as possible.
I was a little surprised by your Texas stats. I'm of an age that when I was in grade school, I went with many Asians. It seems I was the right age to catch infants who fled Viet-Nam with their parents at the end of the conflict, and oddly many of the boats that came to America put in at the Port of Houston rather than the west coast.
We also have a decent sized Vietnamese area of town. "Vietnamtown" I believe it's called, aside from our "Chinatown". From what I read, our Vietnamtown is the largest enclave of Vietnamese in the country.
My school experience was quite a number of Vietnamese, with a good sprinkling of Koreans. In fact, it's interesting looking back, but my close friends group for quite a bit of my growing up was 3 Vietnamese, 1 Korean, 1 Black, and 1 White, up until High School took our interests different directions.
Your memory of "Vietnamtown" being the largest enclave of Vietnamese in the U.S. shortly after the war may have been true at the time, but not anymore. The City of Westminster and surrounding areas (Garden Grove, Fountain Valley, and Santa Ana) of southern California have the largest concentrated Vietnamese population.
@@alexjeon2180 Texas still has a large Vietnamese population and we have Vietnamese bilingual classes in schools etc; Texas is #3 in actual Asian population (just not percent…1.6 million)
Great video. So informative! ❤
Thanks for that opening statement.
Really interesting, I would have guessed higher for Washington and California.
Not offended, but surprised that when talking about the Asians in California you didn't mention the Vietnamese. A part of Westminster (in Orange County) is called Little Saigon, though there are Vietnamese Americans all over the USA. We had neighbors in Ohio who were Vietnamese boat people. Fascinating stories about their escape.
Also there are tons of Koreans in the LA area, Orange County too. Biggest Korean population outside Seoul.
I used to live just a few blocks down Magnolia from Little Saigon and I really miss the food markets and restaurants.
Huge Vietnamese population down here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast...not surprising to come across a lot of Nguyens and Trans.
Yea ive seen Westminster as viet, Long Beach as Combodian(lil bit of San Bernardino as well) and whenever I pass by diamond bar, Rowland heights or Rosemead I can definitely sense a high density of an Asian community as even the billboards would be in different languages. Even my own community (predominantly hispanic) I have been noticing Chinese and Viet billboard ads. I'm not even mad because now there are more and more authentic asian restaurants opening around me. I'm happy I don't have to drive far for bahn mi, kbbq/ tofu soup or dim sum anymore! ^_^
Agreed. Huge Indian, Thai, Indonesian, Filipino, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese populations, and also add in Middle Eastern populations of Iranians, all in California. Not just spread about, although that happens too, but in communities that reflect the culture. I don't need to visit Asia to get a good sense of Asians because we have a mini Asia in So Cal.
Such an interesting video. There were like one or two that I did not expect.
I'm not Asian (although my home country is in Asia lol) but I've noticed that the majority of Asians are hardworking, law-abiding and assimilating. I believe they're the best population to come to the US
Interesting. Thank you a lot for doing this.
Great stats! I was a little surprised Alaska wasn't on this list. I'm in WA. and love our Asian population.
I appreciate the videos, Briggs! I just don’t understand how anyone could be offended by this video.
Aloha from Hawaii, I would have thought possible higher % of mix Asians more now then back in da day! But then i am the first generation of 4 that is mix asian in my family lol I love being in the number one state on the list =P ty for the vidoe and gives me reason to visit 9 states in us mainland!
Interesting data - thanks!
Hi I am Asian and recently moved here in US. So happy to know where are many asians in US so I know where to buy our foods lol. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for doing this video, I think people need to be aware that Asians have been in the US for decades. As far back as in the 1800s. But there are some more recent immigrants, but even that is mostly decades ago. Having only known Southern CA, this is an interesting video as I have clue where some Asians live outside of CA.
Interesting info!
Wow! I didn't know, I am Asian, too, lol! Thanks for sharing this.
It is pretty interesting where different people decide to settle. For example you'll be surprised that there are about as much Asians living in the Detroit Metro Area as the Las Vegas Metro Area. Asians typically congregate toward college areas or large metro areas with a large job market.
i love it!! excellent video
Thanks for the lecture
Las Vegas, Nevada has a massive Chinatown. Located on Spring Mountain Road. Just a few miles west of the Las Vegas strip. Its a great place to find more affordable meals, compared to the Strip. Also, some of the Vietnamese Pho restaurants are open 24 hours or nearly, in true Las Vegas fashion. You can find some great breakfast Pho bowls as well.
Appreciate Your hard work Briggs Great to see You 👀
Thanks for showing this! Thought CA is ur #1 but it explained why not. Yeah too many Asians in CA & hopefully they will lower the taxes. 🙏🏼
I loved the intro. Thank you
Great video. I would be interested to see a similar video done regarding Pacific Islanders. I am from Utah and have a lot of friends and neighbors who are Samoan, Tongan, or other Polynesian. Thanks.
Wow, that Hawaii percentage is surprising! Thanks for your insight and kindness as always, Briggs 🙏
You missed the specific ethnic breakdown of Hawaii's Asians. It seemed you included that trivia with most other states. I was anticipating that information.
Also worth mentioning is the ingenious Polynesian demographic in Hawaii and how this might effect the Asian inflow.
I was expecting a lot more focus on your number one.
My best friend growing up was Japanese. He and his dad introduced me to the PlayStation, GameCube, and lots more video games. I lost touch when we were kids but I'll always be grateful I had the chance to meet him.
I am surprised Texas is not on the list! Just behind CA! Thanks so much for your info 🙏💞
Texas is #3 total he just totally ignored 1.6 million people because it is only 5%
Thank you for doing this video.
bro thank you for this very informative facts!! but best of all we’re both from Torrance - I still live here and doesn’t see myself living anywhere else.
Great video, I live in Long Beach, lots of Cambodians living here.
I'm not surprised by New York, Hawaii or California, but am pleasantly so by Massachusetts, New Jersey and Nevada. Boston attracts a lot of Asian students and many of them settle here. And Boston also has an old Chinatown.
