I wouldn't doubt this because America is a really big place, but I highly doubt this would happen randomly where I live. Surely there are stereotypes, and there are reasons stereotypes exist, but in my experience if a minority comes into the neighborhood and is living a respectable life, things will be really good for them. We recently had a Hmong shaman move in near us in Wisconsin, their lifestyle is different but they are respectable people so everyone accepts them. *Keep in mind that many of the Hmong are very new immigrants as well and the old almost never speak English*

The comments about racism have some truth to them. It's true that US systematically discriminates against black people a LOT more, but it's also true that being racist toward Asians is a LOT more socially acceptable than toward black people. So if you're just living in Korea and hearing about all the racist experiences Asians have, you might think the way those people did.

Might I say though that while racism directed at asians may be less taboo, the actual discrimination that each group faces is waay different.
For example, many americans have an overall positive view of asian people as hard working, industrious, and well mannered. So while insensitive jokes may be more common towards asian people, they are also far less likely to experience things like financial or legal discrimination because of their race.
While you rarely hear people make racial jokes about black americans in public because it’s such a taboo, we have a long and ugly history of prejudice in this country painting black people as violent and uneducated. And thus they are much more likely to be mistreated by police, or denied a loan, for example.
This is just my anecdotal experience, but Id say black people have a much harder time with racism and discrimination in America than asian people do (broadly speaking of course, there are always exceptions)

“asians are more discriminated against than black people”
i’ve seen ppl in the comments comparing the oppression of asian americans and black americans which isn’t a fair discussion considering we experience oppression in different ways. asian americans have always faced more subtle oppression, due to racism against us being heavily normalized. we don’t see the same amount of media coverage bc the media only covers what they think will get them the most clout, which is y we see such a large emphasis on black american issues (blm). i’ve also seen ppl in this comment section arguing that asians are the model minority and therefore receive better treatment from white people. actually, this gives white people the impression that they can jokingly be racist towards us and we also get more racism from other people of color bc of this. we cannot compare the black experience to the asian experience bc they happen in two majorly different settings.
edit: another thing to consider are the hate crimes. while i feel like we shouldnt compare the experiences of both, we must face the reality that black ppl experience more violent racism. their oppression is much more apparent and from the beginning, have always taken the direct hit.

Couldn't agree more. This whole discrimination Olympics is exactly what the racist white folk want: minorities tearing each other apart. They already succeeded on some level with curtailing affirmative action, convincing a subset of Asian Americans that they are discriminated in education. And if we are being serious, it's actually cruel to compare Asian Americans to a people whose first footsteps on these shores were in bondage, and whose history was marked by some of the most unimaginable, inhumane practices in human history. Speaking as an Asian American, I would never ever directly compare my struggles with Black Americans.

I don't think we need to even compare because of all the tension between the black and asian community, comparing oppression will just make things worse.. in my opinion though, asians will say they have it worse and black people will say they have it worse and that's because they've never experienced eachothers' issues so you would never know but this is only in the u.s. worldwide, black people would be the most oppressed race because of skin color, facial features and hair are against everyone's standard not to mention the history of slavery for the sole purpose that they are black that existed in many countries (and stereotypes that we all carry guns to shoot people and are super aggressive)
edit: nope black people definitely experience more racism in the u.s than any other race, take slavery and the segregation laws for example that used to exist

I was 4 years old when I first I first saw The Great Wall of China. Just the architecture and I was in awe of the advancement of technology that they had available. I think what drew me to the Asian Culture is the sense of honor and family. I came from a broken home and family ties were not strong. The fact that honor means so much. In my experience, the Americans I've met regard Asian people highly. Americans love Asian products for their quality, they buy them up so much that I'm not aware of an American television manufacturer currently existing. Asian culture produces very intelligent, hard working, respectful people who are not looking to make frivolous trouble. This applies to the individuals, not necessarily current or past governments. There’s an unfortunately side effect of mass diversity and that is a difficulty in assimilation. America is it’s own country with its own culture, obviously we accept all people of all creeds colors and religions, but it’s impossible to do that without schisms. It doesn’t help that the media benefits off of the heated division between the races, political parties, and religions. They perpetuate and stoke the flames and make it seem worse than it actually is. If you visit America you’ll find that wherever you go, people are generally friendlier and more gracious than if you were to go to another country. Americans are known for being kind to strangers the majority of us are not resists, rude, or aggressive. It’s an unfortunate stereotype that fails to actually anchor in reality.

Jonathan Garcia Exactly. The media always makes the US seem worse than it actually is. The media can only thrive by reporting disasters, disease, and doomsday. Racism is the topic that seems to get the most attention nowadays to the point where people are creating fake hate crimes for their 15 minutes of fame. Sure there is racism but racism is everywhere. Even in homogenous societies colorism develops.

One thing that I don't think a lot of the comments reflect is that these are perceptions and they're not exactly based in reality. Clearly Asians in my opinion are treated better than almost any race because as many stated they are considered very smart and well-to-do as well as non-violent so there's very few people that are going to actually have problems with them. I saw some people complaining about how they felt someone looked at them the wrong way or something and I think they're being little snowflakes compared to what African Americans actually go through. But that's not the only example, just the most surprising

I want to dress well but don't know how (on a budget).
That is to say, if you were to shop in the posh and expensive areas/stores you could easily put together a good outfit that makes you appear chic and well-dressed, but it's not affordable or practical. In the cheaper stores everything is _fast_ _fashion_ and looks cheap and tacky. 🤨

It's so weird to see how much more different an American South Korean is to a native. For example the interviewer seems so much more confident than his male counterparts. He looks bulkier and even his hairstyle. Tbh, his face doesn't even look that Asian, lol.
