      In Laz’s Backyard Ultra format, the length of a loop was chosen to add up to 100 miles in 24 hours, you see. Hope this helps.
      By the way, I think the filmmaker did a wonderful job in providing this kind of content free of charge for your enjoyment, so it’s nice to be a little constructive in one’s criticism.

    I did one of the regional Backyard Ultra's last year. It's such a weird event, and will be different from any other type of running race you have done before. 1.5 years later and I still can't decide if was fun or just kind of silly/stupid. There is no real benefit to going faster in this event, and it's kind of hard to figure out when you're "done" (In my case I had a run a marathon only 12 days earlier and was nursing some minor injuries so I didn't want to push it too far). A lot of it just just dealing with minimal/no sleep, as the "running portion" is pretty slow, with a good bit of walking. It's actually a REALLY social event. Helps to find some people going your pace that you'll want to talk to for hours on end. She sums it up well, it really is a "non-race race".

    • @Driver8takeabreak
      @Driver8takeabreak Před 3 lety +1

      @Long Duk Dong It depends on the course you're on. Our course was quite hilly and the trail fairly technical during the day, so most loops for me were around 45-50 minutes (mostly walking any steep uphill). Not much point in napping for 5 minutes. Unless you're going more than 24 hours, I don't really think you need to nap much anyways.

    I thought that the winner had to run a final last loop by him/herself???

      They have to be the last to complete a lap in the allotted time, so...
      if the last two runners arrive within the hour, and one of them then pulls from the race, the other needs to do another lap to be truly the last.
      if both complete exactly the same number of laps and drop out, there is no winner.
      if the second-to-last runner doesn’t arrive on time, there’s an immediate win (as in Maggie’s case).
      To be fair, she seemed confused about this logic herself, but after 60 hours on her feet, I’m inclined to forgive her.

    So many motivating people. But, one. Always have to have that "one" that puts blame of life on others. It's a shame.

    Fantastic content. Excellent audio and visual. I got a little testy on the back to back to back interviews. I was wishing to see more just running set to music or something. Good video though. My comment needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I didn’t labor at all in the making of this video, just a couch critic.

      After about 20 mins it seemed to show a little more running.

      Thank you. People first and then you can watch the race. Unfortunately, this is how I make my films😉

    Mentally quits and will then blame her body. Dude, EVERYONE's body is quitting, their brains are just making them continue. LOL

    Such weird hat choices. Baseball type hats and visors are nearly useless-- they just shade your eyes, and many people wear them backwards. But so many people use them. I wore wore full brim hats when I was running distance. The goal is to keep cool and avoid burn. baseball caps don't do that.
    I've graduated to full-brimmed caps with integrated mosquito netting, which would be useful there.
