Hey Shawn I know this is meant to be a serious topic but this shit is hilarious. A little bit about my background I used to be in the marine corps now I’m a Detention Deputy, I work at a jail in central florida and I get to be around these guys damn near everyday and observe their behavior in the correctional setting. It’s hilarious to see them call home arguing with their women for not bailing them out or being mad that these women moved on. I speak proper English and these same inmates call me a square and a sell out because I chose to do something productive with my life but I don’t let it get to me. These are the same guys that thought they were too cool for school, they rarely showed up to class and when they did they never participated . Now they’re stuck doing crimes and are in and out of the system. Soon after releasing these guys I’m usually the one booking them in for something stupid weeks or days later.
The thug persona is purely Hollywood entertainment. Many people enjoy seeing it and find it comical. The modern thug dress code is an effeminate one at that, so it's hardly intimidating.

What you describe is what I see as well, in some areas where I live, on a daily basis. Early in the morning while I'm suited up going to work, I see these guys, just like you described, standing in front of some Arab owned store, grown men dressed like teenagers. They have their fitted baseball caps, their Air Jordan sneakers and what you left out of your video is a lot of them are selling drugs and pimping prostitutes, hence the reason why they stand out there for most of the day. It's a sad sight to see and some of these guys I remember seeing them years ago when I was in high-school doing the same thing. I'd be getting up early to go to school and these guys would be out in front of these Arab stores doing the same thing. Yet you get called a lame for going to school and wanting better for yourself, you look down the line 15 -16 years later you still see these guys doing the same thing. These are the fruits of single parent households.

It's not just an African American male thug cultural behavior...I have encountered a good number of suburban white males that embrace this culture. Poorly educated, frequently unemployed, all "Urban" clothing, spent time in jail, all Rap music, dependent on females, and many are aged passed 30 now. They are stuck and hopeless. How they get a woman to tolerate them is difficult for me to understand. Now...I see a number of younger white women connecting with the "Blue Collar" and even "White Collar", WORKING, Hispanic, Asian and Middle Eastern guys.

I've known the so-called thug all of my life. I've lived in Chicago for many years. I believe the thugs were basically a figment. For the most part being a black woman they have always been respectable. It may be one in the crowd that was out of hand but for the most part those guys had nothing but respect for me. I respected them, they respected me. I never had fear for them. I feel so sad that black men have been so mistreated in this country. The media has been so unfair and so unkind. Now I spend all my days and nights praying for black men.
I'm a black guy and not all of us are thugs and not all of us are victims that need prayer 24 7.
