Have you ever wondered how every NFL team got its name? Well I did too!
I wanted to know how every Football Name changed through the years, so I decided to take an unreasonably long time to research each team and create this video. Hopefully you learn a thing or two, too! Each team is listed in the order that they were founded or became a part of the NFL. And since location plays a huge role in the team name (like 50%) I also hit every move as a part of this video!
Be sure to like and subscribe so that you don't miss future videos!

@@JustinLearnsThings One person that I know on Discord has an alternate universe where the Winnipeg Jets were put to sleep in 1996, with the Coyotes debuting as an expansion team. In this universe, the Thrashers never existed (he didn’t like them), so some players (Patrik Stefan and Ilya Kovalchuk, for example) were instead drafted by the teams they played with afterwards. In this universe, the Jets were restored in 2011, after sleeping for 15 years. Which begs more questions than answers. For example:
What about Bryan Little? He played his entire career with the Thrashers/Jets organization.
What about team records? The Jets 2.0’s franchise history also includes the Thrashers, and the Jets 1.0’s history is owned by the Coyotes.

Fun fact: the Minnesota Vikings were the first professional sports team to be named after a state and not a city. However the Minnesota Twins which moved to Minnesota at around the same time were the first team named after a state to actually play a game because their season started before the Vikings did.

A little more about the Bengals. Yes, the modern Bengals were named after a team from the 30s but that original team got its name because the Cincinnati Zoo had recently received some Bengal Tigers. Almost no zoos in America had tigers at the time so it became a huge tourist attraction. Very interesting video. I learned a lot. I think the most interesting story was the Tennessee Titans. I didn’t know the relationship between Nashville and Athens. I can't believe you didn't mention how the Saints only became a team in New Orleans because Congress had to pass a new law to permit the leagues to merge to avoid anti-trust laws, and the two Congressmen instrumental in passing that law were both representing Louisiana and wanted a team in their state. So glad you have every league. It's very interesting and informative. I grew up across the st. from Joe Madro then Sid Gillman's Oline coach. I used to play with his two sons, he'd draw up plays for us in his backyard yard fun times. When Barron Hilton brought Gilman and his staff over from the Rams Joe told us that the Chargers got their name from Hilton having to use his CC to pay for everything. Now, I'm not going to say the old ' Charge ' wasn't the reason but I kinda like this one as well, BTFU....Aloha That is crazy St.Louis had an NFL team named the Cardinals and an MLB team named the Cardinals Fun fact: The NFL St.Louis Cardinals were often named the Big Red As a Steelers fan, I find it amusing how our biggest historical rival managed to mutate and replicate itself twice. All the teams in the AFC North, aside from the Steelers, are the result of the actions of Art Modell. He fired Paul Brown as head coach of the Browns, to which the latter created the Bengals in retaliation, going so far as to use old Browns uniforms in their initial days of operation. And then there's the whole Browns/Ravens saga. I find it pretty funny how many early football franchise owners just decided to name their team the exact same name as the MLB franchise already in their city. Must've made for some confusing August/September conversations: "Hey buddy, you wanna go to the Giants game?" | "Sure, who are they playing?" | "The Cardinals" | "Cool, I wonder how many runs they'll score" | "Uh... runs?" I believe part of the reason the Tennessee Titans chose the name 'Titans' is also a nod to the New York Titans (Jets). Also part of the reason for choosing Houston Texans is a nod to the Dallas Texans (now KC Chiefs)

Really interesting to see how many NFL team names were originally tied to their baseball counterparts. In addition to paying tribute to the team who they may have shared a stadium with, I wonder if that was also done to combat the perception that football was a “barbarian” sport in early 20th century society, while the perception of baseball had improved significantly to one of a more “classy” sport…especially after appointing a commissioner after the 1919 Black Sox scandal.
