Can’t tell you how much I appreciate the fact you just say it how it is, no billy big bollocks crap.
Pointless bullshitting anyone is there mate?
Most drivers walk around like they did a blind side straight out of their mother 55 years ago and were never the new bloke or had to learn anything!
when Reversing my teacher said..Steer Towards Trouble..I.E. if it's going too far Right...Steer Right To Correct it.
I never forgot that.
Top Video Lad !
Hope to see a new video from yourself soon too Ned.
Life of Brian in a Truck
Cheers lad hopefully this weekend but not quite as interesting 🤓🥃
Ned Kelly Ireland looking forward to your next vlog Ned hope the family are keeping well. Tom
@@NedKellyIreland you could be flinging dog shit into a bucket for 40 minutes and I would still watch
@@lifeofbrianinatruck1930 same here, miss the Ned videos.
Just saw the end of your video asking for advice in arctics... 1. Plan your journey in advance.. 2. When manouvering or reversing, get out and check if you're not 100% certain that you've got enough room, 3. Don't let other people make you rush what you're doing
Thanks mate! Appreciate the advice!
Hi mate, nice and informative video. Just wanted to let you know I’ve successfully got my first job as a class 2 driver with Hermes. It’s crazy to think I started watching you last year and I’ve gone from working a standard job to now being a hgv driver. You have been very helpful and supportive throughout it so I very much appreciate that, hopefully we will catch each other on the road one day and can grab a coffee👍🏻
Deffo mate, i'm always up for a brew with anyone.
I'm glad the vids have helped you abit mate! Congratts on the job! I hope you enjoy it as much as i do!
That reasures me so much, it seems the same with a car, your real training starts once you've passed your car test and your on your own.
I thought this too, only difference is, you now have 43.2 tonne extra pushing you forward hahahaha!
Good of you to take the time and effort to help others with this big decision. I wish I could still drive mate, but my disability stops me,I wish you all the best with it and I feel you deserve this chance of a better future for you all.Stay safe & keep on truckin'.
Thanks for this video deady, really good insight and puts my mind at ease a little bit for when I eventually get around to doing my class 1. I look at the class 1 drivers on the road and the mind boggles how they manage to drive them wagons and it is a bit off putting but a positive attitude like yours goes a long way. Cheers again mate.
Thanks so much for this video mate.
Done cat c already & am going to be doing class 1 soon, so any tips you provide will be greatly appreciated.
Your always down to earth and funny at the same time &i think a good teacher .
Looking forward to your next vid.
Good luck with the interview 👍
Thanks for the kind comment mate! Really appreciate it.
I got offered work today :) Quarry work in an Artic tipper, Volvo FM unit
@@Deady2012 that's great news 👍 well done
Best of luck if you decide to take it.
Only a little bit bigger than a van then! (Joke)
That's another 2 fingers to the dickhead who told you" you'll only ever drive vans mate"
Good on ya👍👍👍👍
Good luck with the interview pal and thank you for your videos and advice
I hope they help buddy! That's kind of what i'm here to do :)
Great video mate! Went out for my 2nd ride along today... Nottingham, Leicester, Tamworth and back to Newark. It's really good getting out with other drivers as they all have their own tips and "Real World" experiences to pass on. Did my SMITH's 5 Keys training and a practical assesment in Lincoln yesterday which was really eye opening! I booked my LGV Multiple Choice Theory and Hazard Perception test today for Friday March 13th, so I've got some time to study. Thanks for the uploads mate :)
Listened to this after a 3 hour class 2 lesson today. Bang on the money lad great video as always
Cheers bud!
Thanks mate great video and good luck with the interview.
Great video brother saving for my class one at the moment. Well done again 👍🏻
Nice one mate! Save every penny :) Earn it back in 2 weeks mate ;)
Cheers for the tips, very helpful! I'm used to driving double decker buses in London, but found the lorry quite different as you're much higher up, and you feel like you're gonna fly out the window in an emergency stop lol!
My tip would be leave any ego at home and listen exactly to your instructor he knows what it takes to pass even if it doesn't sound right to you
That is true mate.
loving the honesty fella! only passed my C+E 2 years ago this april..every days a learning day 😁
good luck in the future and keep it shiny side up! 👍😁⛟💨
I hope i can reverse em half decent in 2 years haha! Fuckin useless at it now hahaha!
Good luck mate best advise I got was take your time, I’m sure you’ll love it
I’ve had my Hev for 10 years I’m driving a skip lorry for them 10 years I’ve seen So many Bad drivers out there I think your videos are very open and honest keep them up mate I’ll be watching him when you post them good luck with your class one that’s what I would like to do as everything money is an issue at the moment
Top man look forward to future videos keep up the good work 👍
Thanks mate.
Well Done Deady Great Vlog Mate. All the best
I remember my first day of training for Class 1, and I thought I wouldn't be able to pick it up. Agreed it's very daunting. It just clicks after a while though and you don't think about it. A lot of the time you try not to reverse on your blind side anyway so you will have a better view of your trailer. Well done for passing mate see you on the road :)
Brilliant video.
I'm doing mine tomorrow.
Couldn't agree more with everything you've said. Especially the more reversing practice.
Have you passed?
Good luck today mate with your interview, I feel ya tho. Once I've done my CPC I'm bricking it jumping back into a truck. I'm still excited mind. Think I'll do a refresher lesson before I start working.
There's nout wrong with that mate! Good luck buddy!
Another great video! Keep it up Deady!
Nice one buddy :)
Ill give you some tips mate. I remember my first week lol anyway if in doubt get out and look. Even if you have to do it 10 times. Take your time.. slow and steady.. mirrors mirrors mirrors. If your struggling to get on a bay ask somebody to watch you back. 9/10 they will be happy to help. When coupling up to a trailer reverse up to it.. get out and check trailer brake is on.. (alot of people dont because when you pull off the red airline the trailer brakes come on automatically) then you could check tyres etc.. get back in cab and drop air out of unit.. reverse under (not all the way) then raise unit suspension all the way (so trailer legs are off floor so they dont get bent) reverse into kingpin.. tugtest.. clip on.. airlines on.. legs up.. number plate on and check lights etcq
Belting advice mate! Nice one! :)
As always, another great video pal.
I have two tips for you.
1, if you get to a site and your asked to reverse into a tight spot, be honest and explain your a new driver and get them to watch you in.
2, an easy way to get started out reversing is to put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel, then you can move that hand in the direction you want the trailer to go without having to think about opposite lock.
Once you get into reversing it'll become second nature to the point you'll start steering the wrong way in your car. 😁😁😁
Good vid buddy, slightly changed since i did my test back in nineteen hundred and frozen to death, i didn't have to pull up at the side of the trailer before re coupling back up i just had to drive forward about 20ft and then reverse back under. Good luck with the class 1 work matey 😁👍
Just watching your past videos great video and very helpful to wanna be class1 drivers.I payed a similar price when I did my class1 licence 4 years ago with Stockport HGV.Not used it yet still driving da 8 wheel tippers but always handy to have👍
After watching a lot of your vlogs over the passed few weeks I’ve finally after all the years of not doing it and doubting myself book my course paid the deposit and my medical is next week, I’m 43 and have spent years doing all sorts of jobs I have no interest in other than the money to live and for what my kids need. Always wanted to be a hgv class 1 but didn’t think I ever could. I’m really unsure still I can pass all the theory tests but I have no issue in the driving love driving and have driven every type of thing over the years but not with the documents. Vlogs are so helpful and given me the push and the belief I can do this, in your future you should think about training. Thank you
Good luck with the interview mate some sound advice hope to see some class 1 vlogs soon keep up the good work and be safe mate
I'll be uploading vlogs soon buddy :)
Good luck pal I was in the fire service so drove a automatic fire tender. When I left the fire service I decided to do my class one wow it was so hard. My advise is listen to all the experienced drivers advise as it’s not easy. I only gave up because the company I worked for contracted the work out to another company. Your video is top for anyone learning 👍👍👍
The company who sponsoring me want me to have class one but at 47 years of age I think I'm to old , to much responsibility but your advice does somewhat give me some reassurance because of your experience !
Get it done buddy :)
Love this video mate, I've been a class 2 driver for 5 years and I've finally made the decision to jump into a class 1. Start my training in September im a little nervous about the reversing
Reversing for your test is a piece of cake,
Reversing after you’ve passed, that’s when for the first 3 months it’s an absolute ballbag! 🤦🏼♂️
@@Deady2012 I can believe that mate, I like to think I pick things up at a decent rate, but I know it will be the hardest thing I've ever done, just hope to god it starts to feel more natural. If you get me?
Mate thanks for the video and for your honesty. I’m waiting for my provisional to come back from dvla. Due to covid the waiting time is 10 to 15 wks 🤦🏻♂️
Good luck buddy.. reversing and manouvers don't come overnight in an arctic.. don't hesitate to ask for tips or help guiding in a yard.. any other driver worth his weight will be more than happy to share their expertise and knowledge.. I'm happy for you!!
Thanks mate, i deffo will be asking for help.
Talking the truth Deady mate
Everyone finds it difficult to start the more you back up them trailers The easier it gets. Don't worry about taking shunts practice definitely makes perfect
I hope so bud! Fingers crossed haha!
Good luck tomorrow mate you'll smash it, My reversing confused the hell out of me at first but it turned out pretty simple. Good vid pal👍
@Jimmy De'Souza I know he passed his class1 I mean his job interview tomorrow 😀
Nice one mate :D Been offered a job. Quarry work in an artic tipper. Volvo FM 2 drive axles.... Shitting myself hahaha!
Good one deady you deserve it congratulations
Well Done on the class 1 Deady. Hope you get some class 1 work soon. I passed my class 2 in October and class 1 just before xmas. I'm also on with Driver Hire down on the south coast. They have been very good. Within three days of signing up in January they have kept me busy up until now on class 1. I have been doing refrigeration work and have been really enjoying it. You can imagine how I felt on my first day! I hadent even driven class 2 apart from in my training. Going straight out in a class 1 on my first day, Not gonna lie I felt excited but also I felt a bit sick for the first half an hour :D Don't worry though, you get into the swing of reversing onto bays very quickly. And other drivers are very helpful if they see your having a bit of a struggle they'll give you guidance I'd say after 2-3 weeks of doing class 1 work I started to feel really in tune with it. Look forward to seeing some class 1 content :)
I hope so buddy haha! I don't wanna be a shocker lol! Even though it would be funny, i wouldn't be able to contain myself, i'd end up pissing myself laughing if i literally just couldn't do it.... either that or my head would just completely fall off haha!
@@Deady2012 Haha, try not to get flustered. Everyone has to start somewhere and learn. And every driver must have been there. The other thing you will be surprised about as I was is just what a small area you can spin them around in if you need to. I thought I'd need acres to do it, and was frightened of snapping suzies by turning too tight in a yard, but once you watch a few drivers practically jack knife them when spinning around you soon learn how little space you actually need :D. I'm sure you will be a great driver once you get your confidence up. It doesn;t matter how many shunts you need to get onto a bay, as long as you get on it in the end :D
Also one really good video i found for tips on reversing is by a guy called Jason Walton on youtube. Search him up 'Jason Walton reversing tips' He's magic.
Nice one mate, ive finally got a induction for a job on Monday possibly starting on tuesday. Hopefully everything goes well.
Best of luck for your interview tomorrow aswell hope it goes well
Nice one mate :) Got offered a job. Quarry work in a tipper. Shitting myself lol!
Deady 2012 youll be ok mate, take ya time and just use all the space ya need screw everyone else 😂 my induction will be confirmed later today with a start time etc when do you start?
Well done on passing mate! Look forward to Class1 vlogs. One day the reversing will just click And become second nature just remember if you want to straighten up steer towards the mirror which has the most trailer in it
That's a good way of putting it bud! Didn't think of it like that! Sounds easier than opposites and all that jazz!
It works for me mate! You will quickly find what works for you
Trick is to just take your time and as you say no shame in getting out and looking I still do it
I struggled at first on class 1, got myself some store delivery work and that for sure sorted out my reversing. Couldn’t imagine getting back into a rigid now
I fancy some basic trunking work to start me off..... Looks like i've picked up Quarry work instead though hahaha!
Deady 2012 something is better than nothing especially when your a newby like us, no1 gives you a chance, so quarry work it is lol
your attitude is spot on m8 when reversing slow and steady is best policity
Nice one mate.
Mint this video mate, all the info I was looking for, I will be getting my class 1 as soon as I have enough money and I will be going to red rose too, any advice on which instructor to request? massive well done to you, honestly your the most humble down to Earth guy on here. 👏🏻🚛💨
Thanks for the kind comment mate! Appreciate that!
All instructors at Red Rose are bang on, but i asked for Bill Hood for my training. He's belting. Good luck mate!
Great appraisal and an inspiration to others. As you say: now your driving experience training starts. Most old hands will help you out, do accept their advice with grace and thank them, remember them and when you become an old hand pass on your experience to the novice.I find the truckers camaraderie humbling and encouraging and that's what gets us all through some of the difficult days.
I am happy to take any advice bud! I hope everyone is as nice as you are mate! Fingers crossed!
Very informative mate! Great video :)
Cheers mate!
You'll be amazed how quickly it becomes 2nd nature driving a class 1
I hope you are right bud hahaha!
Deady 2012 your gonna love it !
Great video . I passed my class 1 last year . I lost count how many times I had little accidents. It's was really hard the reversing. I agree with you they should have some bay training in class 1 . It took some getting use too . I found out very fast that .that Geting the reverse on your good side when ever you can . Not on your blind side . Open your window aswell that helps . But yeah it's one of them you only get better with practice.
Nice one mate :) I guess you have fully mastered it now? No issues after 12 months?
@@Deady2012 yeah it got better every week . After about 2 months I had no issues . But dont let it put you off if you do have accidents...... Everybody as them at the start . I'm just been honest with you . Most drivers wont be as honest as I am . But when ( not if ) it dose happen just shake it off and go again . . . That said dont let my negativity telling you that get you down . These alot I could of done to stop myself haveing these accidents. Like getting out and haveing a look. even though it was raining . I got a bit lazy and stupid . So just take your time and try to get a straight as possible before reversing. You could ask another driver to watch your back when reversing you will be surprised how many drivers will help you out In that aspect if you tell them your new and could do with the help . Hope my comments help buddy and I look forward to your next video
Andrew Appleyard It does help mate! Thanks buddy! I’m not looking forward to having any bumps though lol!
Mate, I paid much more for my class 2 and class 1 .... I went through a broker which ended up much more expensive and I had a days less training on each class. Soooooo top tip, go direct to the training provider
Yeah deffo mate! I was made well aware that most of the finance options for training is a rip off!
I used a broker too, mainly because i had to go the finance route as couldn't pay for it outright, think it came to around 2.6k, and i got talked into paying an extra 360 for pass protection, but i really didn't expect to pass first time lol. I can't decide whether to do my class 1. Keep thinking how fucked i could get delivering to the same kind of places i have to go in class 2, especially with some of the situations i've got myself into in the last 8 months! I'm enjoying doing multi drop with moffet and get paid extra for moffet, so it's pretty much the same pay as class 1... Might look for somewhere that runs class 2's with full size cabs with flat floors, that would be perfect i think.
Andrew Turner I paid for pass protection, which rolled over from class 2 to class 1 but thankfully I passed both first time (although I should have failed to get my money’s worth (I am a Yorkshireman after all))
And when dropping a trailer make sure you pull out a touch then drop air out of unit then pull out fully (obviously after you’ve took air lines off and put legs down etc) lol
Good luck with the job app Deady, A tip I used for a long time, if you gotta go blind and you have the room, jackknife the unit so you can see through the passenger window slowly turn the tail into the gap don't over steer, keep going back while getting parallel to what ever you have , wall fence kerb when it is stop for a second get ready to wiz the cab back in line with the trailer, slowly crawl back but turn wheel fast way hay back on two mirrors, it does work!
I'll deffo try that if i have to mate. Do you have to take all suzies off before doing this?
@@Deady2012 no
Just watched the vlog to the end and I think many agree that there should be a lot more training involving reversing with blind side manoeuvring, bay reversing, swan necking, 90° reversing in tight spaces. Like you have said, the real training starts when you hit the road.
My advice from a 'newbie' would be, dont think your reversing the trailer, think that your driving it if that makes sense. Wether your backing onto a bay, or anywere wether it blindside or your good side, if your not happy, stop an get out to look a see for yourself and if you need to take half a dozen shunts to get it right then take those shunts, at the end of the day its a big piece of kit your driving an your in charge so take your time an if your not happy with were the unit/trailer is then move it till you are 👍
Sound advice. I was told to remember the "truckers" chant on taking a shunt, crude but stands me good stead.
Nice one mate! Good advice! Deffo something i will be doing!
What is the 'Truckers' Chant lol??
This tip helped me a lot when I first started
Truckers chant? Never heard that before 🤔
I have my class 2 booked and class 1 straight after , both classes I have 20 hours training for , do you think doing both classes one after the other is the right thing to do? Thanks. Love the videos!
I can’t tell you wether it is or not buddy. Some people go straight to Class 1 some don’t, if you don’t like the job you’ve wasted more money if u go straight for Class 1. I loved my time on Class 2, really enjoyed it.
‘Not many Class 1 accidents’
Try living in Felixstowe mate, they happen all the time. :p
Seriously though, great vid man. I plan on doing my Class 1 at some point, and vids like this make me a lot less nervous about it.
Great vlog and good luck tomorrow lad👍🏻
Cheers buddy. I got the job. Start Monday at the quarry near the M6 junction at Winwick lane.. Dunno if u know it or not? Volvo FM tipper. Have you got work bud?
Deady 2012 Congratulations pal that’s great news!!!! On the job front it’s got to be the right job that suits me and the family, I’m in a decent job so, I suppose I can be a bit picky.
Winwick, is that over Warrington way lad?
Hey Buddy god job, great tips there. One thing I'm picking up is as any type of hgv driving no matter which class, you're now a professional driver and therefore have to act in that manner. Have you had any road rage since passing or even learning? Where I work at the moment is surrounded by wagons all shapes and sizes moving about and the amount of drivers that curse and cripple other drivers is scary. What happened to truck drivers being calm and composed haha. Awesome vid as always, and just to say, when you post a vlog, you know it doesn't matter what you're doing it's your craic and humour and antics we tune in for so never feel like repeating runs is bad content. Drive safe mate.
I have had abit of road rage yeah, when people pull out on me in my stopping distance. It scares the shit out of me, i know how long it takes me to stop, the twat in the car doesn't.... But i completely agree with what you say & it's something i think but haven't said on vlog yet..... As i'm a professional, is all the un-professional drivers now my responsibility?? They don't know anything about my truck....
Great vlog Deady
Nice one mate!
Man like gazza deady 🚛👌🏼
Congrats on passing mate. I passed my class 2 roughly the same time as you. Looking at getting the class 1 now. Did you have to do the theory and hazard perception again or is it straight to the training? Looking forward for some class 1 vlogs 👍🏻
Straight on with training mate. No more tests or anything.
Great video as always matey, is the test truck a manual?
My Class 2 was. Class 1 is auto. My first Artic in the real world is a Volvo FM Manual split box haha! Mintttt
Hi mate I've just passed my medical and got my licence back through with provisional entitlements for bus class 2 and class 1....would you recommend doing class 2 first or just go for class 1
I'm looking to apply for my class 2 & 1.....going through Driving Test Success for the theory side first, how difficult was it?
I suck at left and right so adding a pivot and going backwards had me all screwed up. My instructor said when you see the straps of the trailer steer towards them to straighten it and BOOM, I got it. Slow and steady wins the game!
Hey mate, watching your vids I know you had some issues when first passing class2. Do you have any advice on approaching companies that will support you as a new driver. I passed in 2014 went to a couple of agencies and was really but off because of some of the dodgy things drivers told me they did and the just get in and get on with it. I want to use my licence now so any tips would be great.
Jonathan. It might not be ideal to some. But if you’ve got an Eddie Stobart depot near you,I hear they take on new drivers and they put you out with a mentor for a week or so.Some Supermarkets or High Street stores do the same.I trained and started with a supermarket and was mentored for a fortnight.Still bricked it on my 1st night out on my own tho....The best thing to do is just sit on the phone and ring around to as many agencies as poss and explain your situation. You’ll find one sooner or later. All the best
All you can do bud is ring around and drop CVs off. I've got quite lucky with youtube and stuff, i've been offered work through this platform. But it does prove that people will take on new pass drivers. These people that have offered me work, have no idea how i drive class 1 trucks. But they still have given me a chance just through my attitude. Be confident, be eager to learn and good things will happen bud!
Great video I am looking at doing my. Hgv license soon this is very good advic the best
Good luck with it mate!
Is it better to get some driving experience in a class two like a couple of months before jumping into a class one, or just do them both near the same time?
I love driving just see myself driving a class one.
I would mate yeah.
When I started trying reversing class1 I used to be in crises sweaty hands and rather hot and you think everyone is watching but over time you get it and in a strange way when you stop thinking about it and slow down it gets better everyone has been there 👍
My first job after passing class one was shunting trailers at Rover in Cowley all I did was move trailers on and off loading bays for a week spent more time going backwards than forwards I'm sure you realise now is when the learning begins all you've done so far is train to pass a test. Just take your time and remember no matter what others say we all shit ourselves for the first few months
That was a learning curve and a half? Jesus haha! Bet it's done you a world of good though.
Well my brother is going to do this , class one and I just want to see what he is up against, he already is driving a Severn and half tone scaffolding lorry so this is a lot bigger but it's nice to no about the test , thanks 👍
How many days training did you do and what company did you use for your training?
Your exactly like I was when i passes my class 1 only a few months ago i was worrying about going out on my own I wanted to know everything about reversing Maneuvers but my advise to you if just forget about it and only worry about it when you have to do it for the first time u will find other drivers will help you on site if u ask for it you will also see a few drivers laughing at you cocking it up but we all been there and we are always learning no matter how long we have been driveing
@p a I had it last week a new young lad was trying to get on to a bay only passed his test 3 days before there was a few drivers laughing at him so I jumped in his truck passenger seat and talked him through it his got it bang on there is no harm in helping someone
That's a good point bud! Stop worrying about it until it's actually there.... at the back of me haha!
Great video and advice mate...practice makes prefect, I’m 7 years in and still see myself as learning and new...some days I’ll nail a blindside in one go and another day I won’t be able to stick it in a massive open space on my good side without a shunt 🤣 the actual reverse manoeuvre your required to do on test is crap, in the “real world” you’ll hardly ever perform it like this.
paullfc88 yes you are correct I smashed the reverse on the test then failed an assessment on class 1 on reversing 🤦♂️ so now I’m class 2 until they upskill me!!
I agree mate, waste of space the test exercise! Only one way i'll find out is by doing it haha!
Abit harsh failing an assessment as a new pass driver on reversing. It's hardly something you pick up over night is it? Jesus!
Good luck Harry! Fingers crossed for you buddy!
My examiner forgot to do the hitch and unhitch I walked round to do it expecting to do it the examiner was in the cab waiting for me it threw me a bit
Great vid pal 🚚🚛😎
I used red rose training for all my licences. Grate training centre 💪🏻👌🏻
You done your first drive yet in class 1 on your own? I am a coach driver myself and been driving coaches for 12 year and I still get out and look I also see older drivers still doing it too so just Ignore them! Keep up the good work and happy motoring 👍👍
No mate, not had my first drive yet. Hopefully soon though mate! Haha Can't wait!
I’ve drove class 1 for a while now and it’s really daunting at first but it gets easier with more practice and it’s got to the point where I’ve found my self reversing the wrong may In the unit itself or my car just keep practicing
Haha! My Dad always said he used to reverse the wrong way in his car when he'd been at work all week hahaha!
Yeah it’s very easy to forget how to reverse 😂
well done bonny lad
Very helpful cheers.. At Bolton they're teaching you with automatic.. This worries me going from auto to gears.. As you said previously, you change the gears more frequently..
I did my C in a manual splitter & my Class 1 in Auto. Gears arn't really a problem i don't think.
@@Deady2012 Thank you mate, I remember you saying that you operate the gears differently, like doing 30 your in 5th gear?
For your artic, may I ask how many hours lessons you had to pass? I know your busy mate, so only respond if at all, as and when..
I kmow you said 16 hours for your 7.5..
Hi mate in 6 months time with confidence and practice this will become so much EASIER you won't even think about it. RDC stuff can be daunting because you have often got a load of drivers watching you try and block them out and you will be fine .good luck mate .
That will be difficult haha! Let's see what quarry work is like first hahah! That's where i'm heading on Monday morning lol!
@@Deady2012 that will be muddy lol
we be back fella, hope ya find a class 1 job
Hi mate which training company is cheaper and better in Wolverhampton side. Any1
Good luck for tomorrow me old China. I was where you are now in December. Got a class 1 job in farm collection milk tankers and I've learned so much very fast. We go down all the road massive wagons aren't supposed to go down. Ridiculously steep hills mirrors in the hedge rows both sides. Very challenging but really exciting. As in all industries some very very helpful colleagues only to happy to pass on there knowledge and guidance but unfortunately some who are just back stabbing bitches. No matter tho because In my experience so far the decent people out weigh the planks. Really chuffed for you and you've just brought back the buzz I felt when I passed. Exciting times mucker.
Thanks a lot mate! I've got a job driving an artic tipper. First job going to pick up sand from a quarry.... I saw the road in and a didn't like it in any way shape or form haha! So that's going to be a barrel of laughs it must be said haha! But, i'll take me time and crack on. Happy days bud!
Hi, I am 35 considering a career change due to redundancy. My question is how do you find getting to your location, do you use a truckers satnav as a newbie, what are the pitfalls? I have driven around truck depots and find that they are not labled well, how do you know which one to go to at a site? Im a keen driver and always love to drive however trucking is a new ball game. My concerns are the above and the hours as I want to do trunking depot to depot rather than tramping and nights.
They aynt labelled well lol! Directions are usually mumbled. Part n parcel of the job lol.
I drive a wagon and drag and don't have the issue of losing sight in my near side mirror when reversing. If ever I jump onto a "standard" artic, I bloody hate it! Need a bit more room with a wagon and drag going backwards to swing the wagon round but at least I can see a bit more! Always good to get out and look, no matter who you hold up. Do it right, do it once I say.
Jimmy De'Souza Yeah, Mid Wales. We do drops to farms, which you can't always get to with an artic. With a wagon and drag at least you can drop the trailer, that way you can get to the farm. Can be a pain at times, but I enjoy it.
Hiya Bud.Regarding your reversing,it’ll get better the more you do it and learn the way the trailer reacts to what you do with the steering wheel.Just take it nice and slowly and as you said, gear out and check if you’re not sure. You’ll pick it up in no time.Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. We all do it.Even after 16 yrs behind the wheel,I still make the odd cock up and have to start again.Don’t be shy about asking someone to watch you in either, decent drivers will help out.Best of luck with the interview mate.Hope all goes well.Onwards🚚💨💨💨
Thanks mate :)
Thanks mate :)
My advice is to try-always to get to a good side reverse and ease the trailer rather than spinning the steering wheel back and forth like the training as there will be no markers or pegs to go at.. uncouple and couplings are the important ones I’ve seen plenty of drivers forget to put the legs down 😂
Best of luck 👍
Good luck with the interview
Ps advice with the blindside; don't do them until you can do a good side, then the blindside's are easier than you think, also you can spin it round easier than you think just make sure your curtain tensioners are tucked under (better still don't pull curtainsiders)
Im sure i'll be doing curtain work at some point bud. I want to do general haulage at some point.
What are curtain tensioners?
@@Deady2012 the levers that tighten and release the poles on the curtainsiders, if they aren't tucked under the curtain they will catch your airlines and snap them on tight manoeuvres
Alan Bunton Ahhh isee! No way! Thanks for that mate!
Hi just advice i need i am applying left right centre but all company's want experienced class 2 I've been applying since November 2019 its starting to get frustrating i am like you passionate driver love me wagons and future goal is class 1. Everyone starts from somewhere i am stressed and heartbroken i want to get out on the road asap. Advice will be much appreciated please thanks in advanced
Obviously size is a difference but would it be simalar to doing b+e licence?
I believe B+E is harder. Less forgiving! lol
I passed my class 1 2 years ago but am an ex digger driver, tractor driver so class 1 has been an easy thing for me. But blind side is still hard work sometimes. But when your driving a proper 6 axle artic you need to remember that the pivot point is your middle axle and you then use that as a guide and pointer. Oh and Don't over think your reverse. Give it a month or so and you don't really think about your blind side too much. You will see what I'm on about given time. Good luck.
I hope so buddy! Really hope so haha! Cheers for the advice mate!
im going into hgv training after being a PSV driver for 2 years, is there a big difference?
Its easier lol.
I did well, all CPC and class C passed first time. Just waiting on a class 1 course and test date now. Decided to do it all together as I've been off work since covid struck.
Good luck mate 😁
@@Deady2012 thanks. I've watched your reversing one but I think I'll keep watching a few whilst I wait for a course. Thanks for your videos 👍 you've a great attitude
Just started a Cat C course, might be stating the obvious but I find the breaking really difficult, the break are stiff and hard to use, is this normal
That'll become normal after a while mate
I've found that air brakes are stiff as fuck and decide when they feel like it to work.... Some snap on some take some force. I'm not fully aware why they are like that... But hydraulic brakes are just like car brakes. I've only drove 1 truck with air brakes upto now.
I have always wanted to do my hgv training but never new what or how much it would cost unfortunately that is way out of my budget thanks for the video was really informative 👍
Sorry to hear that, hopefully you can save up some dollar to get it done. I bankrupted myself for this.... properly..... Depends how much u want it.
Also this might seem stupid but if possible could you do a vid on physical use of the tachograph this was never shown to me in my training. Cheers.
What do you mean 'Physical Use'??
I only use 2 things on the tacho machine, thats when i put the card in and a manual entry. Other than that i don't have a clue what's going on with it hahaha! It confuses the shit out of me lol!
@@Deady2012 😂 you sound the same as me then. Even the manual entry thing would be good. From what I remember they go into otherwork automatically and you physically have to put it into break. Like said I was shown littiraly for 2mins during training so any guidance is good. Congrats on the class 1 aswell mate.
Cheers Gareth for posting a nice comment and good luck with the new driving job on Monday.
When will you be posting a video in class 1 but you are doing good mate
Next week ;)
Reversing in a test situation is 2 in 1. Your doing an initial blind side reverse into your good side. 9 times out of 10 at a Tip you can just manoeuvre your trailer to do the 2nd part of that manoeuvre. So always reverse on ya good side and can see everything ya backing into.....Good luck mate!!
Thanks mate!
Thanks mate!
Alright m8 bin watching your videos I’ve jus done my class 2 I’m gunna be an owner driver was wondering if you have any ideas wear I could get work from 26 ton curtainsider
On a rigid you’d be better off using sites like return loads etc for work.. if class one then sub for company’s like maritime or wincanton using there trailer
It's a lot of money starting off being an owner driver. I looked into it at the beginning, soon looked out of it.
My advice would be sort your work out before you do everything else. Orelse you are pissing a lot of money up a very cold wall....
Rickyvalen89 cheers mate appreciate it
