You wrap lots of little prizes in plastic wrap, altogether into one large ball, usually around the size of a basketball. Ideally the nicer prizes are at the center. The way my family plays it, 1 person true to unwrap as fast as possible, while the second person rolls 2 dice repeatedly. When the roller rolls a double, the unwrapping turn is over. You get to keep what you unwrap. Then the next person unwraps and the person who was unwrapping rolls the dice Some versions the person unwrapping has to wear oven mitts while unwrapping. It can be a lot of fun. We usually get stuff from the dollar store, some candy and usually the nice prizes are usually things like gift cards to like McDonald’s or $5 or 10 to Walmart. After unwrapping, then we usually do trades, 1 year, my sister put several bags of baking chips in , her little daughter kept getting them, I got sparkling lip gloss, I traded that to my niece for the baking chips since I like to make cookies and she was 6 & liked sparkling lip gloss

I feel like those cardboard gift boxes with the lids tied with twine or ribbon could work, with a series of smaller and smaller boxes nested inside each other along side prizes. And then you can reuse or recycle the boxes afterwards. so instead of unwrapping it, it's getting the bow undone that's the obstacle. probably best done with not too many knots if using oven gloves, just a shoelace bow with big loops to pull, but then you could also wrap the twine/ribbon around a bunch to make it so you have to unravel it. Or alternatively, use no oven gloves but knot the ribbon well. And the twine/ribbon can be reused too in the end. I have not play tested this though, just came up with it off the top of my head.

Where I'm from we just call this game "Pass the Parcel". The parcel is made with old newspapers, except for the last layer in the centre containing the winning prize...that usually gets covered in brightly coloured wrapping paper. A little bit crunchier than Saran wrap but Crunchy Mom's cloth ball still has us beat.

We do the serán wrap game at my family too! Except most of the stuff is pretty silly. You’ll get a toy car, hand lotion, or Mardi Gras beads, or something else. It’s not really anything crazy, it’s just fun.
