That green car, 4;45, would be worth a small fortune now. It looked like an ex-army staff car. The tipper at the end, I saw an old pram coming down with pile of rubbish, when we were kids them pram wheels where like rocking horse shit, we would have quickly converted them to a brilliant go cart. Spent hours a day pushing each other around on a short length of scaffold board with an old set of wheels attached, great fun. Kids today don't know what they missed.
Interestingly, the soundtrack was also used in the Amazing Spider-Man cartoon series from 1967 and the narrator sounds like it could be a young Anthony Hopkins.
And how about the glamorous olive green Studebaker that looks in good condition reduced to a bail. I would also love to have saved the American kitchen clock that ended up in the furnace.
3mins 40 secs in.................it was called Jones's scrapyard Waltham Cross ........"the biggest in Europe......." my wife's family were part of this ........happy days of a bygone era........whisky and milk at the Cart Overthrown, , Edmonton after a good days trade ..............those who know - KNOW and we still live locally
Love these films and the super-judgey commentary. No wonder the average life span has accelerated since we introduced things like basic safety at work and stopped chucking all the horrific chemicals up in the air. 😄
Old Buicks aren't worth that much, a mid 1930s sedan isn't even worth 20k $ and if most of them hadn't been scrapped, the survivors wouldn't be worth anything at all.
Need to remove rubber, wood, plastic, waste oil and petrol from a derelict car? The official answer? Douse it in fuel and literally just burn it all off. I wonder who it was that looked at the plume of foul smoke coming from a burning wreck and thought, “I wonder if that’s such a good idea...”
One man's rubbish is another man's wealth! The money I have made in the past out of scrap iron and items have found in the bins..Today you can't scrap metal at a scrap yard without a license because of scallywags stealing copper pipes and other no Ferris metal it's a shame fridges now need to be scrapped in a different way because of the gases now days you will see more unwanted fridge's because of the hefty cost of getting it removed The way times have changed some for the best others not so good for the environment.
'Firing' old cars? Environmentally horrendous, of course, but for the Bart Simpson in me - wow, that's the *dream job,* right there! (So much so, there's plenty round my way who'll still take away your car and burn it out. You don't even have to ask, and they won't charge you a penny!)
I was a kid back then and the behaviour pictured here seemed perfectly normal. The sad thing is that many of my generation continue to believe that environmental awareness is some kind of liberal ploy to deprive them of their freedom.
The Lack of Safety above that incinerator...One Slip...lol 7:28

Cry for the endless suffering of human beings and generation after generation of stupid people who become parents so it can keep happening.

4:50 Nice 36 Buick, gone to the scrap yard in the sky. Probably cost d\far too much in fuel to keep it running back then .
And how about the glamorous olive green Studebaker that looks in good condition reduced to a bail. I would also love to have saved the American kitchen clock that ended up in the furnace.
It's probably US military from WW2. It might have even belonged to a famous war general!

First the car has to be burned... ? Good Grief! Even in those old days they could already have known better!
As a number plate collector in Australia I was sad to see the old British plates destroyed! Very collectable nowadays.

bit overexaggerated, but yeah it wouldn't be worthless, unlike what folks above me said
@@CaptHollister King Edward 8th had a customised mid-'30s Buick (with a 'CUL-' reg.) that might still have some value.
Shame to see these lovely old cars being scrapped.
Pay well for them cars today even in that state
And 50 years later we still polute our own habitats
Thay also needed gypsies to recycle and tidy up Britton. Good on ya

Elf and safety, what's that mate?
These days the last owner on record would be prosecuted for no road tax and fly tipping.
Nothing changed, councils and the population 😑, oh-less burning...
No gloves, no eye protection, no Hi Viz. You cannot be really safe unless you are covered from head to foot in Hi Viz.
They have safety tie's on.
