    Oregon has some of the best looking gemstones. Fire Opal AND a rare variety of gem Feldspar with not only colors of orange, red, and green in them, but also literal pieces of copper in them along with adularescence effect. I wish I had both but I haven't gotten around to buying any or finding any yet.

    Hiya Troy, well you out did your self on this video, this one is the best one yet. I have some of the chocolate opals from Opal Hill in California, but it's not as awesome as the stones you have. The Fire Opals your digging up is so beautiful. The pink you started with is so beautiful too. I'm glad to see your doing so well.     Lol! I had that turkey scenario happen to me once too in Western North Carolina! Wildlife is awesome! That muck truck seemed like a great investment for saving some backs. Be careful about jackhammering for too long. It can damage nerves in your hands and arms. Stay safe!

    I've always thought even though fire opal is beautiful in its own right it would be even more lovely to have the flashes of color inside but the same fire opal base color

    i live here in oregon, i had no idea we had such awesome gems here, that chocolate fire opal was awesome. i just found 3 gems in a creek the other day, they're only penny size, one is white and very clear, the other is like a light blue, maybe sapphire? idk. and one is amber colored.

      @@outlawrocks in the early 1900s in san diego the sports equipment producer Spaulding founder helped crest a small town on the beach named ocean beach. He did alot of building and he created a place called lomaland also, a building he helped build was for the thesophical society for intellectuals the building was based on Hindu buildings it had 2 domes one was made from amethyst and had alot of lights under it and at night was used as a lighthouse to keep boats off the cliffs cause it glowed a light purple. Look it up they have colorized pictures of what it looked like. It was called the temple of peace. That's and stained glass church Windows is what made me think of using those in windows

    Would love to bring my son his bday in March im trying to figure out where to go for gem hunting and where do u stay for March won't be that warm gor a tent even tho would love to camp in spring summer but for now is there places close to stay?

      I’m sorry, but there will be so much snow at the mine in March that we can’t drive up there and it will be too cold for tent camping. There are no legal campgrounds or fee digs with proper liability insurances nearby. We don’t allow fee digging because of the legal and liability reasons and we are a private business.     Sorry, folks, but all this footage of jack hammers, crow bars and muck trucks does't give us any indication as to the value of the opal you are taking out of these mines. We know it has to be worth something, or else you wouldn't have invested so much. Throw us watchers a bone - how much is this stuff worth per carat on the open market?

    Please excuse my ignorance. These stones are gorgeous, but...They don't seem to have the color flashes of black opal, Mexican fire opal, or even some common opals. What qualifies them as opals? This video was beautiful and very well done. What did I learn? I shall not mine my own opals. I shall leave it to experts with strong backs and excellent stamina. Thank you.🪨♊💎♊

      Thank you for your comments. This opal does not have play of color but is named fire opal because it ranges in color from yellow to red/orange. This material has been lab tested and certified as opal. It is hard work getting the opal out of basalt. Take care! ❤️😊👍🏻⚒
