    I believe this machine would be great for portability! I can't lug my 60 gallon over to a buddies to do a spot repair on a semi hood. Lol

      Yes, it's portable and easy to carry all the things you'll need to get the job done. I helped my neighbor with his Peterbilt with the B motor. We rebuilt the engine, transmission, power divider, and a bunch of other stuff. I also did a bunch of welding on the aluminum deck, welded up a new floor for the trough in the low boy step deck, etc... He did heavy haul for Oshkosh military vehicles. Interesting paint on those military vehicles. The Avanti has great psi and you'll feel like you're spraying with that 60 gallon - the air keeps on going and going with no moisture, it's clean dry air. Plus, you'll save paint because turbine spraying is really efficient and has high transfer efficiency. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    Hi Jake,
    Great vids/content. You seem to appreciate turbine spray tech for auto body as much as we do. Your understanding of it seems better than the turbine mfg (Apollo, Fuji) which is shameful for them. I notice in previous vids you use the Apollo maxi mixer 3000. We're considering getting one of the units. We can't seem to find anyone that uses one to give us some feedback. What do you think? Was it worth getting one? Drawbacks? Compared to the stand alone 5 stage turbine units, which we currently use the Fuji Q5, what do you think? Thanks for taking the time...

      I like the M3000, it does have the power to get the job done. The big difference in power is the amount of air being produced with each PSI setting. With the Apollo turbines at the collision center, I've sprayed using the M2000 - Limco 845 primer, Glasurit 285-60 primer - easy no problem with the small machine. Using the Apollo M3000, I've sprayed Sherwin Williams CC200 clear coat and it sprays that stuff really well. The other clear coats I've used have been from Spies Hecker, PPG, PCI, Nason, LKQ, etc..., and they all spray easily with the M3000 and even the M2000. No drawbacks for me, the Apollo machines are excellent with their machine cooling and are very dependable to use. Great to hear you are into turbine spraying, and thank you for watching and commenting.

    Hey Jason, Amazing video as usual. I was on the fence between getting the Avanti or a used cs9900 or the Showtime 99 kit to spray a whole car, and I was wondering what you would recommend for spraying metallic. Thanks again

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I would get the kit that will fit your budget. The power from the Avanti is 5 stage power, and it looks like the CS9900 is also 5 stage power. The Showtime 99 from their description is 3 stage power. The difference in power will be the machine's ability to have enough air and psi to atomize the type of automotive paint you will be spraying. With used machines, I would try and find out the hours use time - brushes on the motor could need replacement. Depending on the type of thickness and viscosity of paints you'll be spraying, you might have to thin the paint material more so with the 3 stage turbine. I've only used the Avanti spray gun and the Apollo spray gun with the Avanti 5 stage and both spray metallic very well. I still prefer the Apollo spray gun because it has more options available for automotive refinishing. The Avanti spray gun out of the box does an excellent job, but I would change out the bottom cup to a 3M PPS system. Remember, you'll have better efficiency and paint savings from using a turbine, so the extra up front cost for any machine you choose will eventually be offset with more paint leftover to spray more jobs. Thank you for watching and commenting.

      @@JakeLesada@JakeLesada Thanks for replying. Finding people as knowledgeable as you on airless auto paint is tricky. I might spring the extra cash for an Apollo system or new Avanti to get to spraying ASAP.

    Is the avanti stage 5 worth buying for strictly automotive paint? Im starting a small business and dont want to deal with a air compressor until im able to upscale. Your work looks great and im hoping to achieve the same results.

      I'm going to do more spraying with the Avanti 5 stage and spray gun using primer, base coat and clear. You'll have to decide if it will work for your needs. So far, the Avanti spray gun is able to lay down a decent base coat and clear coat finish. The Avanti 5 stage machine itself has really good power and enough air cfm to atomize automotive clear coat. The machine does produce heat like most turbines, I'll see how it does in the 90F degree range. I did initial testing using water as my spray material, and machine temps were nominal at the spray gun end, and about 10F degrees at the machine outlet end. Not too bad, but that was only a short cycle use - and not a long spray session. If you are doing panel repairs and spot painting, it would work great. If you are going to run long spray sessions in hot temps then you'll need to understand that turbines produce heat, just like air compressors produce heat. There are other turbines on the market that are designed to have less heat and longer warranties. This one has the regular HB warranty, and I didn't get the extended warranty. I'll see how it holds up. The good thing is turbines don't have temp drops in the tank and air lines that can produce moisture condensation in the air lines when spraying. The Avanti 5 stage is a fixed psi setting and is not variable or adjustable. The spray gun has an air control adjustment that can help make adjustments to air flow, but it's more like an air choker to me. The method I approach with this type of fixed psi turbine machine is like this - air pressure set first ( it's factory set no adjustment) - fluid mixture set open enough to support air and material atomization - fan full wide open ( air choker/adjustment wide open at spray gun) more air at the air cap, move fast, this spray gun is fast - like an RP(reduced pressure) spray gun. I call it "wild psi", it's full power when you turn on the machine, but it's set at a specific psi value - so it's workable if you understand how to atomize paint with the air you are getting from your air source. Definitely plenty of power and air cfm. I like the low cost pricing too, it gets you into the "Turbine Spraying Revolution." I'll post more videos about the education part of spraying with any turbine and you'll be able to spray anything.

    is it safe to go 3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear?

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Sure, it's safe to go 3 coats of base and 3 coats of clear. But, you have to make sure you read the TDS and follow the proper flash off times between coats. And, fully allow for the base coat to have ample time to flash before clear coating session. Some colors might need more coats to get coverage, and some economy paints will have less pigments and also need more coats. You'll know if you're fully covered if you use the color of masking tape, or paint check masking paper to show if the color of the base coat is concealing the color of the masking tape or masking paper. Some clear coats might not like 3 coats, and will solvent pop if you try to stack too many coats. Know your product choices and you should fine.

    What's the best clear coat to use to paint a full car with this turbine?

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  Před 3 měsíci

      Choose from your budget and choose from the solids content of any clear coat. The lower the solids content the easier to spray. The higher the solids content the thicker the spray and need for full wet saturation. The biggest issue with choosing the clear coat type is whether it is fast clear for spot panel or slower clear for overall painting. I would always recommend the clear you are most familiar with to use as your "go to clear". I have used many different brands and different mix ratios - 2:1, 3:1,4:1 mixes with or without reducers and they all spray easy and also have different texture appearances - some flow like OEM orange peel and some flow out like show car. Some clear coats are made from the same manufacturer but relabeled under a different name for another company. I know, but to me it's like saying they're all the same stuff but with a different name.

    do you need a 5 stage turbine to make a good automotive finish

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  Před 7 měsíci

      In this video, I'm using an older 4 stage turbine unit. A 5 stage turbine generally has more PSI air pressure ,and CFM (cubic feet per minute) of air to atomize the thicker stuff. Depending on the type and brand of paint you are using, a great automotive finish can be achieved with a decent 4 stage turbine. Watch my video "Understand air, understand orange peel". In the video I'm using a vacuum cleaner, blower vac to try and spray water. If a turbine machine can spray water and gloss it out on the wall test spray, then that turbine machine would have enough power to spray a good automotive finish.

    Mate what hose are you using , i have a 1.5 inch wire spiral like a vacuum cleaner ?

    • @JakeLesada
      @JakeLesada  Před 8 měsíci

      I'm using a Flexzilla garden hose that I modded to work with turbine spraying. Scroll thru my videos for the Flexzilla garden hose mod it's got all the info. Basically I called Flexzilla and talked to tech about the construction of their garden hose as compared to their regular air hose that we use in the collision center. The tech said the construction was basically the same but with the exception of no data testing for air use with the garden hose. I went with it and made my own setup. It mimics the feel of spraying with a regular air compressor hose because of the flexibility and lightness. I reused the original hose fittings from my Apollo hose and fit it to the Flexzilla hose. Now, I use the hose for any turbine machine and it works great.
