Those women and men who are building the walls WHILE the eruption spews lava all around them are the definition of bravery. They're operating machines that are BARELY faster than the lava! Stay safe, and show the world what it means to take care of each other when faced with a massive threat like this.

I am *so sorry* for everyone's losses; and hope the pets and other animals can be saved. 😢

Thank you for this. I hope all are safe and have deep empathy for those whose losses continue to occur. My old home got swallowed up by Pele in the 2018 Kilauea eruption. It's a traumatic experience while also awe-inspiring. The best of humanity emerges during such collective crises. Sending tons of love and aloha from Hawaii island! 💖

I appreciate your updates as a local. I saw an update from a family who was losing their home and they had a wheelchair bound child. Hoping that everyone gets out safely with their animals and that Iceland takes care of everyone. Please keep us updated when you can. We barely hear anything about the active volcanoes in Hawaii & Italy. Stay safe, friend!

My husband has family that were living in Grindavik. They will not be returning. Their house was destroyed by the earthquakes

Grindavik is no longer safe...outside the lava, the idea that 30 meter deep sinkholes and cracks can open up right under your house, is very unsettling!!!!

Thank you for the update and information. Glad you are safe. My heartbreaks over how many are affected by all of this. I can't get over the bravery of those trying to help and building the walls. I hope those people are safe and the walls work by holding back the lava.

The Cracks/Fissures/Sinkholes that are continually appearing in Grindavik worry me, as it makes it very dangerous to live in.
Keep safe and prayers are with you all in Iceland.

We’ve seen many volcanic eruptions in Iceland in the last decade, but the scenes of this one looks like the destructive eruption in Hawaii. Is the worst economic eruption in Iceland’s recent history?

    • @AllThingsIceland

It wasn’t over when I posted this but was fading. Also, land has been rising at Svartstengi which could mean another fissure opens up.
