      going from a vintage hitec lynx 27mhz radio to a flysky gt6 that is my improvment.
      well something more pricy might be better during a race but that lynx radio got me to 9th in scandinavia cup 1:10ic 200mm as a rookie with at that point old mugen mtx2 that got a broken front drive during practice two days before race day (only rwd car in that race).

      The flysky gt5 was my first purchased transmitter and I loved it and still think that it's great in comparison to any transmitter feel, response, and features. On the other hand I picked up a (orange) edition DX5C smart transmitter and its been just as good with slightly better range. Both are hundreds cheaper, but gives the same results it comes down to ones thing. What's your preference and how freely do you spend money.

    The DX5 actually has a little screw under the wheel to adjust spring tension!!! So you can fix that issue that yall were talking about, I also feel if you dove deep into the dx5 to mess with all the settings ypu could get it to your liking!! I love mine and definitely respect the sanwa radios! Just can't justify that price tag just yet!! 😁😁😁

    • @DirtSailor5
      @DirtSailor5 Před 2 lety +7

      The only difference are that the few things that can't easily change: you can add weight but you can't really take it away, the dropped wheel position and back-lit screen. Frame rate, wheel tension, and sensitivity can all that can be changed. If you actually change the settings you might find the 2 have damn near identical functionality.
      At 16:14 Kenny's avg was better and 19:48 Ryan was all around better with the DX. Just shows that the most expensive isnt always the clear cut best. Peer pressure and the wants are bigger reasons to upgrade over necessity. These guys unscientificly showed improvement with a "lesser" transmitter that wasn't dialed in.

    As a racer that last week finally upgraded to a proper Santa m12rs, I should be able to chime in on this. I had a fly sky fsgt3b that I bought 5 years ago. I lipo converted it and at one point, had 9 running models on the remote. I was always made fun of, until other racers realized I was faster with my remote that costs less than a receiver for a high end remote. No, it does not have all the bells and whistles, but it got the job done. To me, the sanwa feels like it has more sensitive inputs. The servos move exactly how your wheel does, versus the fly sky where it “numbs” the inputs. I think the remote is definitely important in high end racing, but if you club race or just want to run on a budget, you don’t need to spend 400 dollars.

      If you take your time making sure you set up well, that's half the battle. Small adjustments and one thing at a time. I'm a little late, but this a pretty good comparison video. I was using a DX5pro for the last year or so, and won an M17 at the Roar Carpet Nats, so I switched over to that. I didn't feel like the DX5pro was keeping me back, but "feel" is a hard thing to quantify, and feel was the biggest difference in changing radios for me. With the DX5pro, I could turn fast laps, but if there was a crash, I never could definitively tell if it was me or the car.
    My wife also races, and she doesn't notice anything with the radio, but I'm also only watching her car to tune the car, so she keeps getting quicker.
    For me, I have to watch my own cars, nobody else is doing it, and with the M17, I have no doubts which car behavior is because of me, and which is because of setup, so overall I've gotten faster. Equal setup, the more expensive radio hasn't made me faster, but eliminating that question mark has made me faster overall.
    At the end of the day, a radio is only going to make you faster in the right situations, otherwise, radios today are really good, regardless of brand.

    So, I use to race a lot as a kid in the Gold Pan days and had a Futaba that I used. I had other radios but I liked it the best back then. I started to get back into racing and ended up with the Spektrum DC3C and I didn't have an issue with driving it. However, I moved up to the DX3-R Pro and I love that radio. I still use it for all of bashing cars, boats, 5th scales, speed run cars and such... Team Grid made a custom aluminum drop down for the steering and I absolutely can't live with out it. I see how going back to a high steering wheel can feel off. But, when you start with it, you don't notice it.

    not from a faster time perspective or something, but the build quality, menu layout and handling and overall feel is so much better.
    also i got the dx5 rugged for a good price and sold well, too..
    but i'm only racing since one year, definately fun!

    I have and have used a dx5c for years in my crawlers, and I love it. When I started drifting I bought a Futaba 4pm, and I love it as well. Now, I’m looking at the idea of starting racing for the first time in about 30 years, and this gave me a bit of assurance that I needed. Now I know I’ve already got a decent radio to use if/when I start racing, so thanks for that!
    I fully expected a big difference in lap times right out of the gate when switching radios. Not because I think the dx5c is an inferior product, but because both of you have a lot of experience with your current setups, and likely have the settings tweaked to perfection. What I think would be an interesting comparison would look something like this: take a box-stock RTR of your choice and run the same comparison. 10 laps with the RTR radio, then 10 laps with the dx5c, then 10 laps with your preferred radio. My personal opinion is that there will be a noticeable improvement from RTR to dx5c, and then a marginal difference between the dx5c and your preferred radio. And that reflects the lifecycle of a novice to a pro racer. As a novice, you’re just out having fun and learning the ins and outs. As an amateur, you make a few upgrades to your vehicle and your skill level. Once you go pro, you search everywhere and try anything looking for that last little bit of speed, that next fraction of a second.
    Just my 2 cents

    When he said it feels different, of course it does! As far as I’ve ever learned, the only difference in the radio is what features you want/need to have. The rest is on you. I’ve actually never considered any radio truly “better” in terms of performance over another. Signal strength, sure. But actually driving, no. Great video and thanks for it!!

    Muscle memory and what you get used to. A good experienced driver can adapt to anything. A newbie like me just needs to put in the track time. I'm amazed how fast you guys recover from a crash. That breaks your rythum and concentration cause your brain is still driving down the track and you have to re sync your muscle memory to that track.... I can't watch athletic sports on TV but I get into a trance when I watch you guys on the track. Your lucky you have friends at your skill level to go hit the track. I would have liked to see you both on the track with the same spectrum radio after you did the test just to see if the competition factor would quicken your lap times but that would me buying to of those test radio's. Thanks for sharing

    I think if you use the cheap transmitter for a long period of time it would become just as affective as the higher dollar transmitter. Only thing this proved imo is a newly opened transmitter is going to feel diffrent than the one you are accustomed to and as a result until you are used to it, its going to give you slower lap times.

    As a newer driver I actually started with a radio from my ProSC10 RTR. Definitely felt cheap but you have to start somewhere. The limited adjustments helped me focus on actually driving instead of tinkering with settings. I moved up to the DX5C and it gave me more as understanding of what each function did and the value of making those adjustments especially for off-road racing. I ended up starting to race on road and found for me that the spektrum didn’t fit as well for the change in discipline. I now use the futaba 4pm and it’s my go to radio. It’s a little more expensive than the spektrum but has a better overall feel and it shows in my lap times not because it’s more expensive but because I have better car control because I can feel how the car responds to the inputs from my hands. In my opinion comfort equals better performance in this aspect.

    Great video! I hear a lot of guys trash talking the cheaper radios and I don't understand why, since I've used many different radios in just the last couple of years. In my opinion, it would be difficult to find an absolutely terrible hobby-grade radio nowadays.

  • @jayloopgamingchannel4926

    I have a Spektrum DX4C and I feel great with it. I've tried also a Sanwa MT-44 and a MT-S from two friends and I couldn't get the feel of what the car was doing. I've also let them try the DX4C and they both said they had difficulties with the trigger being too small and that braking was harder compared to the Sanwa's because of the longer range. I guess it's a subjective thing. The only way you can determine what's best for you is trying as many radios as possible.

  • @sixstar2067

    Really even budget radios are really good nowadays. I have a $50 radio set that has response and range that absolutely blows away some of my friends super-expensive "race" setups from like 3ish years ago. That being said I do sacrifice a lot of adjustability in things like Expo and some other fine-tuning options. I don't use the $50 radio in my race build but I do use a slightly higher-end Rx/Tx setup from the same company. (Radiolink)

    • @eyemastervideo
      @eyemastervideo Před 8 dny

      @@MX-CO The main thing for me was steering trim. When you change models, say you have 3 rc cars, the steering trim for each will be different, and I didn't want to use a dial to change it everytime, I wanted it programmed. But many settings are like that, where you want to set everything for each car, and when you switch car, you don't want to have to dial everything again, you want them all preset and saved for each.

    I raced with a guy that learned how to drive with his steering reversed so that’s how he drove. But he could seamlessly transition from his car and tx to anyone else’s and could still whip and do blistering laps. There is a minimum threshold for how good a transmitter needs to be before it is a limiting factor to how fast or consistent a driver can be. But basically any hobby grade transmitter now is pretty close to that or better.
