      I just ordered an M17, coming from a Futaba 4PL which I had for years. It was a difficult choice between Sanwa and Futaba, especially as I'm used to the feel of my Futaba and got plenty of Futaba receivers.
      I really like your video, could you also give us your opinion on the feeling once you've tried it on the track ?

      I still have a Spektrum DX3S from 2008ish lol, and I race and bash with it. I will probably make it my bash only unit for the trucks, but I have been looking for something like this or the Futaba 4PL/PK for 1/10 on road, so thanks for the video, this radio looks great!

      Hey Ryan! Thinking about making the switch from Sanwa MT44 to Futaba 7PX. I’m still considering the M17 but the interface just doesn’t look as slick as the 7PX....... Why didn’t you go to a 7PX if I may ask?

    You will love going to Sanwa. Been Sanwa for a few year now. Used trigger for years but recently had to change to stick as I have shoulder issue which holding a trigger was activating to the point the next day after racing I would be in chronic pain. Just as quick with sticks just I feel a little less consistent. Find I have better throttle and brake control with a trigger set. But health has to come first.

    I have a 7px and tried the m17 at the track with a similar setup car. Wheel and trigger feel is the same for both as i was making same lap times after 2 test laps on the m17. What i did like was the lighter weight on the m17. What turned me off was the interface between the 2. Futabas have a better layout and easier to navigate. I do not think you could go wrong with either.

  • @briandavis7608

    R-Mode is actually a setting that lets your change multiple settings at once during a race. For example- I use it in onroad to adjust my dual rate in steps of 5, but at the same time I also have it set to adjust the speed of the servo so that the overall feel of the steering over travel remains the same. You could do the same thing with the throttle on a 1/8 scale buggy. As the tires wear over a long main, you could use different R-Modes to adjust the various ALB or throttle settings to help manage the car. It's a very useful feature that carried over from the M12.

    • @RyanHarrisRC
      @RyanHarrisRC  Před 5 lety +1

      Thank you for the explanation! Sounds like a very cool feature!

    • @TomsRCBLAH
      @TomsRCBLAH Před 5 lety +2

      The M12 has 5 programmable R-modes R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5. Each R-mode allows you change one or many settings with just one click. For example my R1 is my normal settings (everything linear/no driver aids). One click on a button/toggle will switch to R2 which I have programmed for -5% throttle curve. Another click on the button/toggle will switch to R3 which I have programmed for -10% throttle curve. My other R-modes have been set to progressively more curve. It's similar to the switch moto gp bikes have when their tyres are worn and they need to switch to a milder engine map whilst still racing. It's very helpful if you just need to adjust something on the fly without really having to scroll through the menu. It just requires programming in advance.

    I have run one for a few races now, coming from Futaba (4px...) too. The model naming menu is totally unnerving as you pointed out. The switchgear quality is lower than my old futaba. The "on-track feeling" though is unmatched and absolutely superb, the car does feel like it reacts quicker and this is not a view of the mind but it actually is very obvious. This is what matters.

  • @JimmyKeane825

  • @EDCandLace

    I have been with Airtronics since the Caliper 3P Came out so A LONG time. I changed over to Futaba (due to 3d heli sponsorship and me racing was a conflict so i was asked to run the 4PK type R) to the 4PK type R for about 1.5 years. Other then that i have ran Airtronics starting with the Caliber 3P then to the Caliper 3PS then M8 then M11 then M11X then M12 lol and now the M17.
    I will say this when running 12th scale mod and going back to the M12 from the 4PK it kicked my ass for a little while you don't notice just how quick Airtronics radios and ultra low latency is until you are running classes where absolute precision is required and you go from one brand to another running the same setups and you are catching pipes at the entrance of turns or hitting corner markers and going for a short flight and not knowing why then changing a receiver that slows the protocol down and running perfect again. Once i knew what was causing the issue and having very hard time getting back to tight lines and clean races that are a must in 12th scale.
    I really really love the M17, the M12 was fantastic and still is but the M17 is totally amazing with just how well it fits my little girl hands. I loved the M11 and M11x for sure but just how big it was caused issues for me the M8 was still kinda big but was ok the M11 was massive and it was so nice when they want to the smaller profile or the M12 and now M17 with how adjustable it is to your hand.

    Hi Ryan, first off thanks for all the quality content you upload here on u2b and for having, quite possibly, the nicest demeanor and outlook in this corner of the internet. I did have one question and, as far as I saw, I don't think you've uploaded any updates since this video aside from the wireless charging. You kinda dodged the elephant in the room and skated neatly past the one thing I was really curious about...why? I'm not saying it's a good or bad move but, for all intents and purposes, the (T)7PX(R) is universally viewed as "The Egg Laying Wooly Milk Pig" as we Germans say of pistol grip remote controls. What were your reasons for making the switch to the M17? Were there deficiencies, niggles or foibles with the Futaba that made you want to stretch your proverbial suspension arms and switch it up? After sufficient time of use I imagine a remote becoming something very particular if for no other reason than the kind of intimate tactile interface your hands make with it (get your minds out of the gutter, thank you) that switching remotes would take a fair amount of time to, recalibrate your hands if you take my meaning.
    Cheers mate and godspeed,
    -Diem

    While I do not understand why not to change to a completely touch setting system by Sanwa. Feel and trigger/wheel position is just better IMHO. Feeling and speed (as available on M12) is really a feature, as full speed (less laggy connection) could be too mach at the beginning. I could actually quantify the difference in about 0.5s per lap when I switched from Futaba to Sanwa... With tons of backcompatibility.

    As Always super nice video, but you did not say why the switch to Sanwa. I know the weight of this radio is amazing and also the signal quality and speed. Overall I don't want to start a Latency war but I know from trying a lot of radios at different tracks that Sanwa is really amazing and all the big racers where I go are still using their M12s but I think more and more will switch to the m17. For Me I am using an Sanwa MT-4S and a M12s and their are both amazing. Eager to have your opinion about your switch.

I am wondering if you think the MT-5 that uses the same protocol as this one would be a decent step into a race radio for him, with a fast and stable connection to his cars... given I will need 3-5 recievers total to swap all his race cars, the radio budget is gonna have to be in the $400 or under range.... going to start with his 2 main race classes for outdoor first...

    Why is there not a radio that uses an external mobile phone for the screen? How often do you use the screen while racing? You could have a strap ion your arm with the screen on. This would make radios way cheaper. This would then pave the way for a communications standard which would allow multiple implementation of software. I mean I can connect to my car and change loads of stuff using the OBDII standard.

      On track feel! It's hard to explain in a technical sense, but I didn't believe it until I tried it in my own car. The inputs from radio to car felt way more natural. I can see why many of the big pro guys have turned down 100% deals with other brands and chose a 0% deal just to get the feel with Sanwa 👍

    I'd like to hear about the long term results of this so please keep us posted. I was about to get a Sanwa but the locals at the track said they were glitchy and nobody runs them so I got a Futaba 4PLS. This Sanwa here seems a lot more user friendly than the Futaba I have.

      They probably just wanted to unload some stock. Nothing against the Futaba, but look at any pro-race. About everyone is using a Sanwa radio, unless someone is paying them to used something else.

      @@alekss784 - Actually I got it wrong: Spectrum is what they said is glitchy. I was just at the track this weekend and it's basically a Futaba/Sanwa show with some high end KO Propo's here and there.

    • @FeedThatAddiction
      @FeedThatAddiction Před 4 lety

      @@powertothesheeple5422 Yep everyone knows Spectrum has had issues with glitching and no pro I've seen in person races with one. Actually almost every fast guy runs a Sanwa around here. I'm sure they'd be fast with a Futaba as well but if you're going to be into it as big as some are may as well run the fastest response radio.

    I'm trying to switch from RTR radios to Futaba or Sanwa but not sure what to get. Everything looks really good. I'm only over a year into 8th scale nitros. I have a couple an want to move up to something better but not sure where to start. I'm more or less a basher have never raced but I'm willing to start once I find a track around me that races nitro. Any advice ? Can't wait to see you running that nitro rig of yours. I watch alot of your videos an have mad respect an love for ya. Keep up the great content.

      Spektrum DX5C is a great radio for getting into higher end radios. Cheap receivers too, and you can run several different cars with the one radio. It's just not the best/worst looking/feeling one on the market.

    Ryan, R-mode, I believe, is to store a set of common parameters on the same model to adapt quickly to the condition of the track. For instance in the past, I used it to program on my 2wd mod buggy a softer exponential curve, change steering speed, D/R and brakes, for when the track looses grip. With one click, your radio setup will go from aggressive for high bite to softer, if you realize you put the wrong tires on, or track got very dusty in between rounds, etc.. So if your radio was setup for aggressive driving with high bite, you can get different R-Mode to adapt quickly to changing track conditions for instance, etc...
    Hope it makes sense.
