Squeezing Air Conditioning in the LS3 Swapped Defender

- Today we see if we wasted all that time laser cutting our dash mock up. Our Vintage air mock up box came and we can see if there will be space to install a modern climate control setup in out custom LHD dashboard.
We also start in on making the shop more comfortable as well, the Defender isn't the only thing getting climate control. We put a dent in the insulation installation on the shop.

What in the what-what is all that stuff up in the office??? That stuff looks like manual transmissions and cylinder heads. A lot of them!
Anyway, you certainly need to get in to gear and get that insulation done asap so that you're not trying to work in a refrigerator. What about the ceiling? 🤔
Yeah. Not a real ideal use of the office. Haha. Like I said, I’m my own worst enemy.
I’m hoping to have everything in. The walls done this week then get a lift in there to do the ceiling.
The ceiling will still stay open/vaulted. I don’t have to do any additional framing for that as the purlins are on edge and 24” on center. So I can get the rolls right in there. Then it will have a couple fans to move the warm air back down. Office and bathroom will also be insulated from the shop so I can keep the smaller space a little warmer if I’m just sitting in there.
Great work on the climate control. That extra effort is going to pay dividends!!
On the shop, could not be more excited with the progress and detail.

Just need a really tall ladder is all haha. But no I’ll have a platform scissor lift for that so hopefully that goes smoothly.

It is starting to feel a little less like a barn in there now.
The airplane is kind of neat, it is a kit from 1992. The gentleman building it passed away, has all the controls, bubble canopy, wings and what not. Not exactly sure what my buddy has planned for it yet.
Layed up with the flu and watched the entire series in 3 days and I’m all caught up!
Sorry about the flu, but thanks for spending some time watching. I’m not sure if it was enjoyable or torture. Haha.

That sounds ideal to me. I spent the he other morning looking at properties in southern Tennessee. I figured that’s a good compromise with some seasonal changes yet.
not sure if you looked into it but i know ministry of defender in the UK do an ac conversion for defenders that replaces the heater core in the engine bay for only a marginal increase in the unit size.
I have them bookmarked as well. That is my backup plan if I can’t make the Vintage Air setup work. But it looks like a smart setup.
i need a dash for a 110 county stationwagon i am building and yours looks perfect any chance you can send me the file so i could have a company cut it out for me i think it will work ok for right hand drive dont want the standard dash as my other one has a puma dash,just bought myself a bmw x5 gonna put the engine and box into my double cab m57 engine straight 6 diesel
That will be a nice setup in there. As it’s designed right now LHD or RHD wouldn’t matter.
no probs keep me updated i was thinking of having it made in steel sheet and cover it in leather and just tig it together myself gonna salavage as much of this x5 as i can too so there will be as much of it as i can in the county and my double cab ,got 3 more to build after this one lol busy busy
