- In this edition of Harvey's Hot Takes, Bryan Hayes joins SC with Jay Onrait to share his thoughts on which Maple Leaf is under the most pressure to perform in their series against the Bruins, who will win the Hart Trophy this season, and Gary Bettman's reluctance to expand the NHL playoffs.

If their defensive play does not improve. With more than 5 goals against in their last 5 . They have no chance of winning against Boston. Boston rarely gives up 4 goals/game

Should Marner not waive that full no-move clause, Treliving should not hesitate to buy out what remains of that winger's contract should the Leafs' current season also end without a conference final appearance. I believe the only chance of that happening is if the Leafs' presidency by Brendan Shanahan, who has claimed to have been adamant keeping the AM34-Marner-Nylander-Rielly-Tavares quintet together no matter what, ends early enough this offseason.

Leaf Executives are under most pressure - even with new Leaf Playoff supporters there appears little reason to have any faith in Marner and Leafs Core 4 playoff hopes and a much needed Leaf playoff run. The Leafs Executives are responsible for developing an unbalanced and poorly structured Leaf Core 4 not designed for playoff success in any way.

Ultimately Brad Treliving (GM) and Brendan Shanahan (President) are under pressure because:
- last offseason was kinda meh for Treliving, with the signing, even if only for this season, of an injury-prone John Klingberg (no doubt a dud) and signings of other players (among them Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi) who'd been slow to get going to start the regular season
- Shanny's about to complete his TENTH season in his current role, with my hope that should the Leafs NOT make it to a 2024 conference final, he'll be out no later than the week after the Leafs have lost their 1st- or 2nd-round playoff series (i.e. should they beat the Bruins in their 1st series, beating the winner of the Bolts-Panthers' series), with limited playoff success with only additions to what's become the AM34-Marner-Nylander-Rielly-Tavares quintet
@@wainber1 Why not trade Marner with agreement Marner is resigned by his next team & Leafs get a good return back? That might be hard as Marner on other teams is likely only by his value an $8Million to $9Million player outside of Toronto. Still better as the Leafs Core 4 is a weak structure to build a playoff team around. 😀

Honestly with how the teams record has been in the playoffs sense those four have been on the team has been all four of them should be under a lot of pressure.I honestly think they are just content with doing well in the season and slacking in the playoffs.

Hayes always bashes Marner, until he feeds Mathews for goals. Spoiler alert, Mathews has scored 362 in his career and Marner assisted on 336. Guess what happens if the Leafs let Marner go? As for the Hart Trophy it’s Kucherov by a mile. He’s 40+ points ahead of the next player on the Bolts.

Don’t expect teams that focus on individual stars to perform well in the playoffs. That would be Toronto that focused on Matthew’s getting to 70 and Washington basically bouncing pucks off Ovechkin to help him pass Gretzky.
No one expects anything from the Leafs other than to be eliminated in the first round. Therefore, a move to the second round will be a bonus (like last year).

Not Matthews he'll be winning a bunch of trophies. What pressure? You have 2 wingers making 20 million, that are fluff in the playoffs. Where in almost every playoff so far, Matthews has been hounded by 2-3 players none stop. If marner and nylander don't step up just trade them. The domi-bertz line proves a 5-7million pair posted the same production as a 18m+ line. Not only that they protect your future captain, instead of skating away and smiling.

Tavares is an anchor . Just immune from real analysis because for a player in his role on this team. Still plays too much of a role and every other opposing centre salivates when matched up against him.
