@@wyattlundrigan4740 Many see tom as the real Reverse Flash entirely because he was the first actor to portray him in the arrowverse. Also, Tom's acting skills are phenomenal and people are always excited to see him. Him being in an episode is a sure way to get people to come back. Naturally, that doesn't always work as many people abandoned the arrowverse due to their need for comic accuracy not getting satisfied anymore.
@@Soron661 It has nothing to do with comic accuracy. It just doesn't make any sense for him to look like wells narratively. The way thawnes story played out up until season 3 was exactly what it should be currently. Then season 4 comes along and they abandon consistency completely, they make him look like wells again and then give some half assed excuse for it. "I thought I'd put it on again, you know, handsome." Seriously what the hell is that shit? It makes no sense for him to look like wells at all, but people just excuse it because they like Tom more. Harrison wells was long dead by the time crisis on earth x occurred, so he couldn't have taken his face again. Thawne in the season 1 finale had his real face last time he was seen before he was erased, so that can't be the case, Flashpoint thawne same thing, also had his real face last time he was seen, so that can't be the case either. It literally makes no sense. And it makes less and less sense every single time they use Tom instead of Matt. Like he shouldn't have been stuck inside Nash wells mind or body, *he's not actually wells.* But oh well who cares about consistency or good story telling am I right?

I can't put my finger on why but reverse flash didn't really seem like an intimidating villain anymore during season 8.

The one issue I have with the character now is that they seem to have just forgotten that Matt was the original Eobard cause they just get Tom for every appearance. I would’ve loved to see some of the moments that Thawne appears in later be portrayed by Matt.
Yeah it started with season 5 when he couldn't film due to scheduling conflicts with the narcos show so Tom stood in but since then they haven't seemed to try to bring Matt back.

It was cool seeing him pop back up as Wells up until like Crisis on Earth X. Then it got annoying low-key
They ruined such an amazing tv villian by making him go from menacing to way too manic and it just takes so much away from why thawne is so creepy and intimidating, it’s not just his power it’s how he conducts himself, he doesn’t seem crazy other than his incessant desire to ruin the flash’s life and the coldness he shows at times while still holding a level of charisma which to me is the reverse flashes archetype

Yeah a villain who is calm, collected, even cold and dispassionate while still obviously despising their hero (and or everyone else) usually comes off as far more menacing.
Not to mention if they're almost always that way it adds a lot of weight to when you see glimpses of the true raging monster beneath it.

You know what's sad? On the show they always come up with amazing ways to show off the detail in each plan Thawne comes up with to defeat Barry but all they give Barry to defeat Thawne is BS Plost Armor
I mean that’s what Barry does, thawne plans and plans but fails to really understand Barry and his friends and what they will do to stop him (like Barry refusing to save his mother in series 1)

i just realised season 1 thron couldnt use negative speed force cause it didnt exist yet
the negative speedforce is like the speedforce. it exists outside of time, so it basically has always existed. the connection between Earth and the negative speedforce just hadn't been made yet. I reckon that the moment the particle accelerator connected Barry to the speedforce, the negative speedforce was also connected to Thawne. Just, not as strong as it used to be due to the fact he didn't originate in 2014. Kinda like a cell connection when in the mountains. its there, but going down more often than not. Hence why he used the speed enhancing device.

I believe that Possessed Nash Wells is the final death of the pre-crisis Eobard Thawne we've known since season 1. Especially, since that version has a different villain origin story than the post-crisis Eobard introduced during the Godspeed boss fight. Its my belief that the Earth-Prime Eobard really did die at the end of the events of season 1 with him only appearing again when Barry went back in time to save his mother. After that, the only Eobard that existed was the Time Remnant version from Legends of Tomorrow. Once that one was gone, Eobard was truly dead and deleted. However, Speedforce-Nora requesting Eobard's resurrection just before Barry took on Godspeed is where Eobard truly did come back for good. At least until the final battle of season 8... I guess. Haven't watched season 8 after the Armageddon multi-episode event, tbh. The writing, the speedster battles, and the speedster cgi just went downhill after Crisis on Infinite Earths and Flash season 6 part 3(I count Crisis on Infinite Earths as Flash S6 Part 2). The cgi team and the writers were undoubtedly replaced after season 6. Undoubtedly as a result of COVID.

Still confusing. I know in comics he’s a living paradox but in the show it still doesn’t make sense which Thawne is which. The resurrection one came out of the other Thawne’s body but I thought the OG Thawne face swapped with Wells from the crash.
The one in s8 that looks like og thawne isn't. He originated from the captured, or as most people call it, flashpoint thawne. Hasn't yet swapped faces. This version never does, (he is either a time remnant or timeline line remnant) He then went on to fight the ledgends of tomorrow. He then got killed by a time wraith. The wraiths then sent him into the 1800s (I think) to protect it from time travelers changing the timeline. He then dies for the 2nd time, and then becomes that version. The one who dies by having resurrected thawne rip his face own off.
One way or another, the Reverse Flash has been apart of every series of the Flash

Eobard Thawne was always from the future
The original Timeline thawne is Thawne when he was looking for the Timeline The Flash is from, before Thawne found out The Flash’s name. Once he found out, he tried to kill the Flash in the Future but failed multiple times. So he goes to the past when Barry was a kid to try to kill him but Barry chased after him. Barry saves his younger self so Thawne kills his mother instead, creating a new timeline.

What i don't understand in the end Thawne wanted to kill everyone. His character was never about killing everyone but torturing Barry. In Legends in the alternate timeline he was just a brilliant scientist in Star Labs.

1 thing i wish continued in later seasons is having 1 big bad throughout the entire season rather than having a big bad then resolving the issue within a few episodes

He is one of the Earth 1 Thawne's time remnants since he isnt Reverse Flash in other earths (im pretty sure reverse flash doesn't even exist natively in other earths), but one that either ended up becoming a nazi or teamed up with the nazis so he could kill barry or smth like that

It's possibly that Thawne killed the Nazi Barry and also agreed to work with the Nazis to "compensate them" for it. That or he gave Fuhrer Oliver the idea to travel the multiverse and take Kara Danvers's heart. Entirely possible that he even infected Overgirl with a massive dose of solar radiation so that he could manipulate the Nazis into helping him kill Barry and his other enemies on Earth-1.

You do realize that the Eobard Thawne disguised as Harrison Wells you noted Future, Eo Wells, The Man in the Yellow Suit, The Reverse-Flash Original, past and Nazi Thawne are one and the same? Put it chronologically and you'll understand...
The only second version of Thawne is the captured one with his original body, who's a Time Remnant of Reverse-Flash who lived and remembered everything he did, but not the original version disguised as Wells. 8x18 revealed a lot about Reverse-Flash...
I think the one in season 7 and onwards is the post-Crisis Eobard while the one from season 1-5 was the pre-crisis Eobard which died permanently when he was exorcised from Nash's body and mind. I mean, the villain origin stories revealed in season 2 and season 8 are very different from one another... i think.
@@Soron661 it's the same origin. Eobard never really answered Barry back in S2. He just told why, but not what Flash did. Think about it, he intended to save a crowd but felt humiliated and when he traveled through time, he accidentally discovered that he was destined to become the Reverse-Flash instead of being the Flash. That's what pushed him over the edge, which led him to connect to the Negative Speed Force and being corrupted by it.
@@byonemesis well, i was really just going off what other people were saying about the two origin revelations being different as people said the scene was already done in season 2. i honestly, didn't remember what Thawne said in 2, so for all I know the others were right. currently rebinging Flash, but stopped prior to Legends of Today. Went back to watching Arrow season 1, and gonna keep binging arrow until Legends of Yesterday so I don't have to dig around for the crossover parts in each season.
It's like they couldn't think of any more compelling villains like reverse flash, so they kept repackaging him each season... honestly with they'd stopped making the show after s2

Trying to remember what timeline we are watching. Are we watching the events of the 2nd timeline where Thawne makes Barry gets his powers 10-15 years earlier then he was suppose too. So we haven't even seen the Flash from the very 1st timeline yet where Thawne never killed Wells and everything played out like it should of. Then when Barry went back to save his mom we see one of the flash's signal Barry not to save his mom and that Barry is never explained. Maybe the 1st timeline Flash.

they didnt think that through at all "oh your speed and ability to time travel has been completely depleted" meanwhile he's still moving ad superspeed to blur his body and use the negative speed force to make his eyes red like wtf if he has zero everything how can he do that
I'm glad someone else said it. I read somewhere here, the particle explosion reconnected him back to the Negative Speed Force, only he wasn't as powerful as before. Which is wierd because speedsters can control how much of the Speed Force they absorb in their bodies. He literally did it once to extend his last few seconds of life into a few days after a head shot.

At this point it's too much. They overused Thawne up to the point where he seems almost non-threatening. New villains should get the spotlight. I understand his significance in Barry's past, but that's all it is. The past. I also get that Thawne is from the future, but they have beat him so many times that him still being there just makes all their victories feel less glorious. What are they fighting for if he's just going to return? That's why the first 3 seasons were so good (in my opinion of course), because they had 3 very threatening and very different villains that added something to the show, that would be remembered.

yeah, most of them are the same. There are essentially only two versions. One born on Earth-1 pre-crisis and one born on Earth-Prime post-crisis. There's just a pretty good overlap between the two as they share very similar histories.
@Soron66 actually you know since the Speed Force is multiversal and exists throughout the Time, and the Negative Speed Force is immune to Timeline changes I doubt that there'd be a Post-Crisis Eobard. There has been Future Eobard that was both from Seasons 1 (+Flashpoint) of TF and 2 of LoT, and 2x11 Time Remnant from the Future as well, same goes for Crisis on Earth X, he gets captured in the Future until being freed (2049), he's then trapped into Nash's body Post-Crisis, freed again and came back in 7x18, till the end of Season 8 and is also in Season 9, then there's Matt Letscher's Eobard that appeared in LoT Season 7 as a non Speedster and got killed, same on the Flash Season 8 he was another Thawne so technically we have OG, Time Remnant x2, Matt x2 so 5 Thawnes instead of 10+ like in the vid
