There isn't anything I enjoy more than repurposing something someone else has thrown out. Or WATCHING someone repurpose something that was thrown out/discarded and making something beautiful from it. How satisfying!
You must be like “ The Wood Whisperer “. Great video !
Lol I like it. Thank you!
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking If you like it it’s yours, I find your videos amazing
@@gjohnston281 It was amazing work, but Marc Spagnuolo already owns The Wood Whisperer. Marc also does fantastic work, btw.
@@ST-0311 ok I did not know that , thanks
A great quote from Mr Steve Ramsey: Put the bad side against the wall;) you killed it man. Like your work. Like your style. Love your attitude/outlook.
Thank you!
Great idea! Reclaiming a piece of wood hat most people would throw out, and reproducing an heirloom piece of yard furniture is such a good concept!
Love your work and the fact you always help educate hobbyists. Other channels do their best to hide the dimensions and angles, etc, lol. I believe most people will buy plans if they like it and want to replicate the piece, or use the plans and slightly modify them. Thank you.
Just started my woodworking journey and happened upon your videos. Pretty easy to see why so many other youtubers reference you in their videos. Great videos, highly entertaining, and informative, especially for a novice that doesn't have thousands of dollars worth of tools. Really appreciate everything you're doing!
Welcome aboard! Thank you!
Amazing project from a seemingly piece of trash wood. Bravo! 👏
Thanks!
I want to gain skills like this. One day. One project at a time. ❤❤❤
Keep pushing yourself!
I travel with work for months at a time during the spring and fall. When I'm not traveling for work I'm off to do whatever I want. I found your channel while working this spring and saved a bunch of your videos. I've been wanting to find something to do during my time off and you have inspired me to do some woodworking.
Really appreciate full build content completed with basic tools and affordable (or free) materials complete with the mistakes. I recently spent a great deal of time on a graduation present with the graduates initials routed into the wood. Got one of the letters wrong on initials. Recovered. Learned much. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
It looks great. I'm glad you included the "oops". It's good to see how you problem solved the solution. I appreciate your videos!
Thanks for watching!
That's great! I love building something beautiful from old "trash" wood.
From the start of the video, I was thinking poplar. Love that build, Matt. Goes to show even garbage wood can be turned into piece of art. Excellent job!
You got it.
Wow! You knocked it out of the park with this project.
Thank you!
To err is human, to forgive yourself is divine. Great video thanks. 👍👍👍
Yes! Thank you!
We're In a travel trailer for now and rent dirt & hookups. The man he has a bench like this, super old. I think he just turned 73 or 74 & like you he remembers it from way back
I'm getting my stuff together, had to move 1150 miles to get away from a bad situation. I, also, love pallets. I plan to rebuild this chair like your doing.
Keep it up.

That was amazing Matthew! Great job!! Blessings!!!
Thank you! You too!
Matthew, you inspired me! Repurposing wood has been my mantra for a long time and this little porch rocker really caught my attention. My grandparents in Nebraska had one very similar and your project brought back memories of home. Your plans are amazing, the attention to detail, the full-sized templates - well worth the cost! Thank you.
Tthank you do much. That is awesome!
Great video thank you man. The log repurposed to a rocker was amazing waching you do it. It may even be older than the original.
Thanks for watching... and you are right, very possible.
It probably makes a lot of us woodworkers feel better when you don’t edit a mistake. Thank you , I have a project for this week buying your plans and some wood filler 👍🏻😀
It's nice to see that I'm not the only one that screws up.
We all do. If someone says they don’t, they are lying. 🤥
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking Those who don't screw up, don't do anything.
Matthew, I remember many episodes of New Yankee Workshop with Norm Abram starting a project with old reclaimed wood. Sometimes it was from old barns, one of the This Old House projects, logs that were at the bottom of rivers…. And it was just beautiful material once cleaned up. Of course, Nom could take any wood and turn it into something wonderful!
Oh yea! He was great!
Nice build. When you removed the mistake diamond board, I think I would have used an oscillating tool with a thin blade to cut off the nails.
Once again, another great one. Thanks for the video. You're the man!!
Thanks!
Awesome build dude. Many happy hours of rocking to whoever has got the time.
Impressive job. Thanks for sharing the video. (people and wood have a lot in common)
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant just Brilliant, i loved the whole episode, yes, even that mistake.
Take Care,
Barry (UK)
Great video and wise words on owning our mistakes 👍
Thanks 👍
Awesome, definitely a masterpiece.
In 1987, an 80 year old lady wanted me to make some new rockers and replace the seat, on a double rocker just like this one. thought it was neat started building and selling at craft shows and at our shop. Still make and sell them.
Awesome, thank you. This will go great on the patio I just built for my wife.
Have fun!
That is the only wood I use. Leftover firewood pile junk. Old wood forms for concrete, junk logs destined for fire wood. thanks liked this
Wow wow wow. Such a beautiful job.
Please also refinish the old bench to match, it would sand and stain up so lovely. Then you’d have two.
I’m currently making an Adirondack chair out of old 2x3s I’d taken off a sofa base I’d added to help my mum get out of it and stop kids toys and pupper hair going underneath.
Also made a fenced play area in our garden out of 4x4s from heavy duty pallets. Milled down into 2 inch x 1/2 inch slats and painted them with a different rainbow colour.
Always get inspired watching your videos ❤️
This rocker is great! I have a lot of 1 x scrapwood of different lengths and I think I may just have enough to try and make one. If I have enough, I may try to make a single rocker to go along with it, too. Thanks for this lovely idea!
That was awesome! Any chance we can get a Master Peech favorite finishes and why video sometime?
Hey thanks for the recomendation. I'll see what I can do.
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking awesome hopefully it’ll cut through some of the confusion/overwhelming advertising!
I'm not new to woodworking but don't have a lot of experience and it's been a long time since I did any woodwork. Almost a beginner. Been watching your videos and finding them very valuable. Using the old chunk of wood to make the double rocker turned out really nice. I have quite a bit of old wood boards, most have been out in the weather for years. Decided to do something with them rather than firewood. Sanded a couple down with 50 grit sandpaper on a hand held belt sander and nice surprise, they were cedar. I made a couple phone stands that look pretty nice. Still have most of the two pieces left for some other things to make. Thanks for the informative videos and the inspiration.
I'm working on a shed that is built for free out of wood that I brought home from work over the years (framer for about 30 years)...beam cutoffs and old pergolas we have torn down. I am using only wood that is rotting from being in the yard for 8-10 years. I'm making the decay a feature and using timber pieces so that it won't rot in my lifetime. Sheated with ¾" plywood, this shed is built like a tank that looks like it's beaten to death. Everything is pre-weathered.
You are brilliant thank you for all your videos and God bless
A friend recently helped ne plane down a piece of lumber i got from a downed tree. Not sure what it is, but it has loads of character.
Nice!
Super Cool build from scrap discarded wood. Love it
Matt, I believe you could crochet a pot bellied stove from steel wool! Great job on the rocking bench!
Have a very Blessed day 🙏
Love your videos I’ve learned so much
Thank you!
Full-time job, full-time woodworker. He must have a very understanding family.
Incredible! I dont have the bandwidth lol I'll just stick to my "made in my head plans" and making signs with router lol
You da man! Awesome job!
I appreciate that!
I love this channel
Excellent job Matthew, both in vision and in craftsmanship. I’m inspired, thanks.
Awesome, thank you!
I knew the whole time that you could do it. I have faith in you. Remember, the man that never messed up, never did anything!! 😊
Well said! And thank you.
You, sir, are an amazing individual 🤙
You are AMAZING!!! ❤😊❤
Reminds me of the "New Yankee Workshop".
That was amazing!
Thank you!
That was cool! I was ready to chuck that piece of lumber away. I enjoy watching your videos, very inspirational for certain. Thank you for giving us ideas to add our own little spin on things to make.
Thanks 👍
Matthew, I always enjoy your content. I even mentioned you as I was showing how I distressed a birdhouse for Mother's Day. But, I really like how you took something distressed and made it "new" in this one. Awesome! Thank you as always!
After you messed up the diamond, did you want to use a club on the builder? My heart goes out to you. I screw up in spades at times.
I see what you did there... I decided to hold the project. Other times I fold em.
Like always you did a fantastic job. I love your projects.
I’ve done that upside down thing lol ❤❤❤❤❤
I have a lot of wood like this. Could you please make more videos using old wood. Central Kentucky with a huge old tobacco barn.
You totally are giving new yankee workshop throwback vibes with recreating an older sturdy, beautiful piece of wooden furniture. 😊
Yes! Thank you!
Very cool
Thank you
What an epic build Mr. Peech! I will buy these plans for sure!
Love the build! I've often wondered how you can do all the measuring & cutting while narrating without making a bunch of mistakes. I was building a little table while talking to my son, big mistake! Well, two mistakes were made. 😂 Luckily, I caught them in time to fix prior to the glue setting. According to an old time woodworking buddy, it's the mistakes that remind us we aren't perfect, but also challenges us to fix without wasting wood. You handled it like a champ!!!😁
Video editing does great things lol.
Yes Sir you are amazing........
Long time first time Matthew love your videos
Thank you!
Double likes on this one!
Amazing that you can make that without eleventy-three board feet of lumber.
Matt - you are amazing!!! Love ya man!!!!
Thank you!
Peeches I respect the realistic woodworking. Best video! Thank you.
Dang Mathew! Are you paying the editor so much that you having to cut the budget with rotten wood?? lol. JK! That almost looked like a railroad crosstie but wasn’t sure from the angle. That was an awesome video and love the oops in the video because everyone makes mistakes. Your absolutely correct on how making mistakes makes you learn and how to best problem solve to correct it is a challenge!! Damn good job!!
It does look like a cross tie but its actually poplar... much lighter than a RR tie!
Really great job.
Wow..great job...
Don't tear it apart. Just change the shape of the diamonds to match each other.
I had to see it through.
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking I thought as much. I love your work. Thanks for all you do for the woodworking community.
Very good. Like it. Keep it up.
I think this is my favourite build of yours. Great vid. Well done
Wow, thanks!
I saw the mistake as it was happening and was yelling at the video lol. Why didn't you mark the top side with blue tape so it was easily identifiable??? Did you ever identify the type of wood??? Great video as always and looking forward to the next one.
lol idk what I was thinking. The wood is poplar.
Great build!
Nice build.
Wow love it, thank you so much for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Very cool.
As Matt Outlaw says We're not building clocks! I have a large chuck of lightered pine looking at me. How many board feet of wood did hou use? Wild guess is ok!
Southern yellow pine maybe?
Poplar actually
That was awesome
Super cool! Artistry at work 🤙
Thank you 🙌
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking it reminds me of artists taking a block of granite and revealing a statue. It's very inspiring. Especially when you show the human side of it as well instead of editing to perfection for lack of a better term and thank you for showcasing it all.
That build was amazing!!! Love your videos Matt!
Nice!
DAMN BOY, nice job making a silk purse outa' sow's ear
lol it took a little creativity but got it done.
Cool vid Matt.
About halfway through, I had a flashback to the scene when Mel Gibson sat in the rocker he had made in the movie "The Patriot". Sorry for that Matthew. Great build tho.
lol good movie. Than you.
Since I’m a person on a budget I usually use scrap wood that I find and turn it into $$$ I can only imagine what I could build with good wood lol
Awesome job Matt.
Thanks!
Matthew... I have to come clean... I watch many videos on wood builds dreaming about creating the build... however rad your builds are, I come here not only to watch the build, because it doesn't matter what you're building. i just come to listen to you talk.... it's calming and the accent just, gets me. I'm from Northern California, we don't have cool accents.
it's like listening to Raylan in Justified 🫶
Bahaha... Well ty. And I have to come clean... I actually try to lighten my accent when I record so people can understand what I'm saying. And I think that's the first time anyone has said my accent is cool. But again, thanks! Oh an Justified took place in Eastern Kentucky... I'm not too far away on the West side.
looks like an old railroad tie. i brought one home last year 😂now i know what to do with it
This was actually a poplar log.
Very cool! Another inspiring build too, thanks for the content!
Great video!
Thanks!
Fill the holes with resin.
Yep... shit happens lol. 😊 nice job and you can't see it from my house.
I'm trying to figure out if "Mistakes Were Made. That would make a great shirt." was a joke or not. It did make a great shirt when Brad from FixThisBuildThat made one at least.
I just bought my first table saw at an auction.but it did not come with a miter gauge So i'm looking for some advice on a good one
And that busted TV and split dresser are the coolest freaking pieces I've ever seen. Do the upper drawers actually function where the dresser splits in half? I've always wondered
Yes they do :)
That's so freaking cool!!!!
Nice. I thought you might cut a new pattern with the two diamonds rather than pull out the slats. But it wouldn’t have been like the original.
Yea, I had to see it through.
I have a question, once you made the diamond shape for the diamond why wouldnt you stack the boards together to cut out the shape? Fyi legitimately curious if that would be a legit way to do it im a very poor woodworker and cant make anything square lol. Im trying hard to learn.
