Patience is a virtue. Fancy tools make things easier and (sometimes) faster, but they don’t make or break the project in the hands of a patient craftsman.

Big thanks to Matthew from Cornwall in the UK. The material costs are quite a bit higher here than on your side of the pond and the sale prices are going to be a lot lower but there is still money to be made so thank you, thank you and thanks again for taking the time and trouble to make these inspiring videos (and I hope the making of them earns you a few quid too)!

Gotta tell you Peech, I’ve watched a bunch of your educational videos, you have great ideas. One small project that I’ve sold without any social media is pot spoons. These spoons are great for soups, chilis, gumbos, gravies, etc….all are made out of native hardwoods (cherry, maple, etc.). Out of an eight foot board of cherry 3/4” by 6” wide) I can cut around 25 spoon blanks. Board cost is about $12, sandpaper and tung oil another $13 for a total cost of $25. I’ve sold to date since mid November 123 spoons at $20 each. Downside is that it takes about 45 minutes to make one for me, semiretired so not a real big deal. Now I’m moving on to try spurtles, new “in” to the cook of the house.

I just picked up some old pellets someone was giving away and wondered what I can do with them. I use to love woodworking class in JR H.S and been wanting to start off with small projects. I wondered how to make some “Shooting Stands” with the pallets as well.
The hardest part about just starting out is only having a small cordless circular saw and drill to work with but hey I figure I’ll still give it a shot.

I grestly appreciate this channrl. I have watched a lot of others, you show us all the tips and tricks, where as the others, skip steps, and do not explain clearly what they are doing. I know how you like the vintage look, and often talk about the square masons nails, and they are great. I have used and will use again. If I want to give a piece that extra special something, I have been using date nails in the highly visable areas. For those of you that do not know what date nails are, theycare nails with 2 digits representing the year a railroad tie, or utility pole was installed. If your nrar and old rail line that still has wooden ties, take a walk along and usually, they are located on the outsides of the rails. The purpose was to see how well certain ties with certain treatments held up. Oh, if anyone decides to use the, do not drive them in with a hammer, you will split wood. Drill a hole the snugly fit in. Add a little glue and push them in by hand! Gives a very authenic look, and have not seen anyone else using them! Keep up thr great work Matthew! 😊

I have over 200 fence pickets left over from a project I did here at home. I've been planing them down and gluing 3 together to make them 1 1/2" thick for shelf legs. I could make a bunch of these tables.

To make the shelves for the adjustable floating shelf, I think I'd router a groove across the board I'd use, then rip the board. Or I'd clamp the boards together, pop a guide on, and then router using the guide. I'd still have parallel grooves for the slots, which is the important thing.

For those floating shelves, perhaps an (screw in) insert nut would be better.
My thoughts: If you can hammer it in, you can rip it out. I only use t-nuts when I come in with a bolt from the other side.

That's where I put my spin on it and have much success with items you have introduced us to. To me it's kind of funny that console tables are a big deal now. Several years ago I went in search of a table for my entrance/foyer & found a lot they were either too wide or too short or the price was way out of my single Momma budget. I took screenshots of a lot that I liked the design of, but they just wouldn't quite work for me. So I sat down and roughly drew up what I wanted, searched my wood pile along with buying a couple of 2x4s for the legs & built what's now popular in the Farmhouse/Modern Rustic style. 😂😂😂

I would make the back board wider than the front one. That way you can use the top as a shelf too.

Sorry, Matthew. Ive been forgetting to like your videos! And I know how much it helps to grow your viewership, but I'll go back thru and binge watch and hit the like button on any I've missed! Thanks for keeping after us , I still am trying to work under a tarp. The seasons pass quickly at my age.

@richardmccann4815. I’m right there with you. I’m 50 now and still don’t have a dedicated work area for when I woodwork. It makes it hard when you only work on weekends, only have a limited area in the backyard without covering (my mother in law took over the canopy for jewelry making) and the weather doesn’t always comply or when the wifey wants to go places on the weekends. I’ve been trying to turn the hobby into a business but I’m restrained by what I’ve mentioned. All we can do is keep trying and just build for the love of it.

@@OZYM1 I hear you, I’m going on 57 and I just work out of my kitchen. I’m a new woodworker of 2 years and slowly my tools and wood took over my kitchen so I got rid of the table and put a workbench together! I drive my husband crazy but I know he’s proud of my hobby.

For that first shelf, if you don't want to deal with box joints, you could just cut three equally wide pieces of hardwood strips, then cut one of every three strips 1.5" shorter than the others, and using your pipe clamps, glue them up into three piece panels, alternating lengths to make box joints. Then you could take that one step further and have the center strips be contrasting boards for that extra pop of color.
You could probably batch out several sets at once by doing that way, buying equal amounts of the two contrasting woods.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Those mini shelves could be made nicer by using screw in inserts instead of T-nuts.

GREAT content. Super inspiring. I'm thinkin' the chunky but small floating shelf concept produces grip/security at the wall surface for it's thickness which you would sacrifice goin' thinner? Any thoughts?

It all depends on where you live and what you have access to. Farmers markets, flea markets, FB market place, your own personal socials...

@@MatthewPeechWoodworkingI understand flea markets and craft shows for selling but it seems to be a requirement where I live that you're a business in order to sell your hobbies/crafts at these places. I do see people selling household stuff pictures, lamps etc at the flea market but when you pull up to gate , the gate person asks what your selling. The minute I mentioned craft/hobbies boom now becomes commercial sales. I'm so confused. I'm retired and it's just something to do now and then. I keep or give away what I've made however It would be nice to get a few bucks for more materials. How do other flea markets work? So what other avenues might one take to test the waters to see if there craft is any good that's not on social media.?

@MatthewPeechWoodworking thanks for the ideas...I think the crate would probably sell better with either no galvanised or at least flat sheets....is there a way to flatten the bumps? I work with used leftover materials

I first saw those shelves a couple of years ago and sold a few of them. All of a sudden I've had a dozen people message me off that initial ad that's been up for at least 2 years
