  • Here is a brief look at some of the differences between the old Evora, in this case an S Sports Racer, and the new 400. This is by no means an exhaustive look, but hopefully gives you some idea of the many changes incorporated by Lotus into the new model.

    Great review of a car close to my heart. Just wish i didnt suffer from being board with things so quickly. Really enjoy your style of presentation. Me thinks you are as knowledgeable on your products as Mr Metcalf. Look forward to viewing some of your other items. 10/10

    Hi James, just stumbled upon your reviews through FB. I drive both a standard Elise S1 as well as an early Evora S. Really love your reviews. They are very informative and unbiased. You should get more viewers than the new TG does on BBC, that's for sure.I deeply love my early Evora S and have had a spin in the 400. I wish my S had the 400 sound but for the rest I prefer the original S. But for Lotus it makes sense to move ahead and make the marque more succesful. Again: great reviews!

    I've probably said this on another one of your videos but the 400 front bumper is unforgivable. Original s1 front facia wins hands down. No wonder they got rid of it so quick for the 430 redesign.

    James you have an absolutely informative channel for lotus lovers. I was about to create a channel for the same reason you did, I am just crazy about Lotus. It's been a while since I have my eyes wide open on lotus news, started looking for an Evora S, then the 400 was launched and now in Dubai I was informed that the 410 will be released by end of 2016. Would appreciate if you can get a hand on the 410 and do a comprehensive comparison between it and the 400. Can I know how much a brand new 400 cost in the UK just out of curiosity? Here in Dubai it costs 86,492 British pounds.
    Keep up the good videos, and maybe you can discuss the disadvantage about your car as well !!
    Great Job 👊🏻 definitely subscribing!!

    I'm looking at buying an Evora S within the next couple years. I'm not what you would consider a car enthusiast but I love the style of the Evora as well as performance and the fact that it's powered by a Toyota engine. However I've heard a lot of horror stories about water gathering inside the car, and since the car will be my daily driver I'm concerned about it especially considering I live in Tennessee and there are no Lotus dealers anywhere close to me. More than anything I really want a mid engine sports car that isn't a bitch to daily drive and gets decent gas mileage. I figured I have 3 options: Evora S, Cayman S, 718 Boxster. I'm not wanting to spend more than 50-60k USD so am I better off taking a risk on an Evora S or getting a Cayman S or 718 Boxster in a few years? Is there anyway to test to see if water does leak into the car before I buy it or what?

  • @Vonstroke
    @Vonstroke Před 8 lety +6

    Still think the S1 looks better. Esp as a SR. They should've changed the head lights, etc

    • @Vonstroke
      @Vonstroke Před 8 lety +2

      True, and still very, very rare.

    • @tillyfoxtrotter
      @tillyfoxtrotter Před 8 lety

      Shame they advertised the cost saving they aimed for with 400. Every time I compare the SR to the 400 I just see silly things deleted or cheapened.
      The arm rest, the better seats, the infinitely better quality dash, the mid ships lump aint pretty and the bits hanging off were better covered - oh yes it saves weight and cash.
      Take a SR, put the chargecooler, front bumper and possibly the exhaust off the 400 and for me you have the better car.

  • @iluvcakes19

    Is the driver's seat adjustable? I sat in an Evora 400 briefly at Lotus sponsored unveil and it seemed like the seat was completely fixed.

    Great great show! I own an S with the Komotec 430 kit and it is the best I have ever had. Only missing the possibility to get the top out/down. Do you know if there are any transparent roofs on the aftermarket ?

    • @cedricwatine5438
      @cedricwatine5438 Před 8 lety

      i am not sure, on the Evora S ? The roof seems pretty "soft".

  • @2103richy
    @2103richy Před 8 lety

    I think you missed out a few things here, it would probably be good to mention that the back seats aren't really seats they are just there for the sake of being there, you'd have to have no head or legs or be Warwick Davis to fit back there and I found the 400 infinitely easier to get into than the S, the smaller sills make a massive amount of difference which if it was a daily driver would make an enormous difference. The interior as a whole just feels more premium on the 400, more deserving of the £70k plus price tag - I think you made a good decision, beautiful car!

      @2103richy Před 8 lety

      +James Martin (JayEmm) the perfect family car ey! ;) as you said in the options video, better to have them than not! I suppose there's a technique to it, but I found the 400 soo much easier, I think it was part of their design criteria to reduce the size of the sills (p.s. Can you give me your car.. Pretty please?)

      andrew mccluskey I have a 2014 Evora S. And it seems like the gearbox issues have been sorted out by this model. The throws are a little long... but it shifts very smoothly and positively. I never get balled or locked out, even at high revs. No complaints really. shorter throws would be my only desired change.

  • @Blaylock1988
    @Blaylock1988 Před 7 lety

    James, How do you expect either of these cars to handle in winter conditions with lots of plowed roads and ice? I live in Boston but expect your winters to be pretty similar. I really want to buy an Evora S but I'm just worried about daily driving it during winter. I would definitely get winter tires of course, and I also have a Mk7 GTI thats mainly my wife's car.

    • @Blaylock1988
      @Blaylock1988 Před 7 lety

      Thanks! It sounds like I'll be getting more snow than you're region. I'm betting the Evora does better because it has more weight over the powered wheels, so the rear will be less likely to come out compared to a front engine RWD car like your M3. The Evora also appears to have a lot of ground clearance so I'm sure that will help in snow too. I'm hoping when the Evora 400 is finally delivered to showrooms here, more S1s will be available on the market and hopefully drive down S1 prices a bit more.

    • @xgelmirx
      @xgelmirx Před 7 lety

      Yes I have, still don't like it. I don't really like the old one either on pictures, however in real life it looks very composed yet agressive. I find the new one just a bit too much really. Especially big holes filled with mesh really remind me of the 90's tuner scene. You know, when most people prefered to cut the mesh with a blunt pair of scissors so the edges were all messed up. I like elegant design over in your face design. A Porsche CGT is in my opinion the best looking modern supercar (despite having huge amounts of mesh in it's engine cover) and I prefer it's looks anyday over that of let's say an Aventador.

    2018 Elise, 2018 Exige, 2018 Evora, are great performing cars. But IMO are ugly ... Lotus should get together with Morgan and Mclaren to pool their assets and knowledge to build a new 2021 Esprit .... to be wider ... Lower ... lighter ... than the previous model .... to accommodate tall Americans 192cm to 200 cm tall ... Not one of the 360 NBA players rides a Lotus ... average salary is 6$ million a year. ... such players itching to ride a long legged Esprit. Jaguar and Aston Martin are neglecting us ... these losers are aiming for the shorter statured Asian client.
