    I have SIPS all through my garden. I have used them for several years and will continue using them.

    great video, my only question would be doesn't it take too much space from the pot?, many of my trees can out grow that new space in a month or two

      You are right. They really do outgrow the pots fast. But being sips help keep them healthier even while root bound. I want them in bigger sips but at the time being. Can't afford the volume of soil or the space to store them. So this is a good option for a year or two.

      @@alveygardens for sure, this season up potting alone is a real task, so many bags of soil, i use the same as you promix plus compost.

    Where do you buy the black bucket you have in the back?

    • @unknown869
      @unknown869 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I got some of those large black buckets at Lowes, 22gal I believe.

    What about UV light from the sun breaking down the plastic? Those buckets would get brittle quickly if left exposed.

      @alveygardens  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You tend to up pot every couple years. The buckets will easily last that long. I have buckets that are 10 years old and still holding up.

  • @alveygardens

    I purchased those from zoro
    www.zoro.com/homz-storage-tub-w-rope-handles-18-gal-black-0402grbk08/i/G4302365/
    But they were on sale at 1/2 price. However, they are not as sturdy enough for planting in. Which is why they are still sitting and not planted in. and I use them for storing and moving things.

    Why buy food grade pales and then put drainage tile in the bottom. Both will contact the water which helps grow the plants??? It makes no sense. The concept is good but half dozen in one hand etc...

    • @alveygardens
      @alveygardens  Před 3 měsíci +1

      You are allowed to have your opinion, but sorry. Not going to argue about it. I do what works for me and share my knowledge with others who request the information. You do whatever works for you.

    • @iamachine
      @iamachine Před 3 měsíci

      You are correct. The pails do not have to be food grade plastic. It is pointless to specify food grade buckets, then fill them with non food grade plastic. The system will operate either way.

    • @alveygardens
      @alveygardens  Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@iamachine So the idea behind buying food grade is to ensure someone doesn't sell you plastic buckets that had a caustic chemical, oil, herbicide etc..... so take your own risks. I will continue to buy buckets I know are clean enough by buying what I know has only had safe contents that wont poison my trees.

      cuts the need to water by half if not more. plants tend to be healthier in SIPS.
